When does Fortnitemares 2026 end?
Epic says Fortnitemares runs until November 1. Its event post describes Geno’s plan unfolding through a cursed cartridge that changes the Island with new weapons and Overrides. The event features Freddy Fazbear, Hazbin Hotel, Freddy Krueger, Beetlejuice, Obsession, and more. Live-game availability can change, so check Epic’s Fortnitemares 2026 event post for any newer notice.

How do Override Consoles work?
Override Consoles are in-match objectives that let a player change rules for the whole server. Epic’s August 20, 2026 season announcement says: “Override Consoles appear in every match and let you rewrite the rules for the entire server, but you have to get there first.” The claimant’s name appears around the console base.
Rare Squad Overrides work differently: only the first squad to claim one gets its buff, and claiming it broadcasts that squad’s location on the map. That makes the reward a trade-off between a squad-only advantage and giving away its position.

Named Fortnitemares Overrides
- Spooky Sprinter: cloaks the player while sprinting.
- Berserk: increases damage as the player’s health falls.
- Spooky Prop Hunt: disguises the player as a Halloween prop.
- Other effects: Epic also describes an Override that trades shields for extra health and one that fires pumpkin rockets while the player shoots weapons.
What new weapons and loot are in the update?
New weapons and boss reward

Epic says Krueger can hide behind a friendly face, then vanish and reappear nearby. The event post also names these Loot Hacks: Last Call, Infantry Rifle, Pumpkin Launcher, Light Machine Gun, Slap Candy Corn, and Loot Hacker Sprite Variants. It does not provide damage, rarity, cooldown, or spawn-rate figures for these items.
Returning items and loot-pool changes
- Returning: Wood Stake Shotgun, Dual Fiend Hunters, Witch Broom, and Heavy Assault Rifle.
- Unvaulted: Quack Snacks.
- Vaulted: Drum Gun, Ranger Assault Rifle, and Tetris Rift.
- New utility item: Snack-O’-Lantern Gizmo, which players toss to break open and spill Exotic Candy.
Epic says Ranked and Competitive receive a portion of Fortnitemares vaults and unvaults, including new weapons and mobility, but does not identify the full item list. The event post therefore does not establish that every item named above is available in those playlists.

Animatronics and Sprites
Five Nights at Freddy’s animatronics appear around the Island. After defeating one, a player can possess it and play as that animatronic. If its health runs out, the player gets a few seconds of protection before the shell breaks and they return to the fight.
The new Sprites named in the post are Spooky Dash, Vampire, Deer, and Dumpster Dive. Pumpkin Chests contain Sprites. Honey Sprite and Obsession Sprite are scheduled to arrive October 15, with further Sprite arrivals promised during the month.

What changes in Horde Rush, Blitz Royale, and Reload?
Horde Rush
Horde Rush sends squads against waves of Cube Monsters. Epic lists perks, weapons players can purchase and upgrade, surprise encounters, and Cursed Shrines. Defeating the final boss unlocks an Endless Mode.
Blitz Royale
Blitz Royale adds the Bonerattler SMG and Freddy’s Nightmare. The event post also mentions Ghost Face and the Last Call knife; it says eliminating the wielder lets a player take the weapon and role.

Reload: October 8 schedule
On October 8, Nightmare Island is scheduled to return to Reload with a refreshed map and horror weapons. Stranger Things and Squid Grounds are also scheduled to join Reload’s map rotation.
Power Hours: October 3 schedule
Epic’s post lists Dual Fiend Hunters for all players, more frequent Bounty Hunter Sprites, and possible 1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors from Chests during Power Hours on October 3. The listed start times are 2 PM ET / 6 PM UTC and 9 PM ET / 1 AM UTC on Sunday. These are dated event times, not a recurring schedule.

What balance changes and fixes are listed?
Epic says Rebecca’s Guns receive increased SMG damage, including at longer ranges, plus reduced spread and recoil for both the SMG and Assault Rifle. The post also lists several quality-of-life changes:
- Pickup prioritization has been revised.
- Sequential floor-loot pickup is slower and more consistent across input methods.
- Cheat Codes can be heard from farther away.
Platform-specific fixes include a Switch 2 flashing issue affecting Rebecca’s Guns and a PC issue with rebinding movement keys.
PC asset download option
On PC, Epic Games Launcher’s Epic Quality Assets option replaces the previous High Resolution Textures option. It covers Epic-quality gameplay content; cosmetics still download on demand. Epic says Fortnite balances bandwidth between gameplay and streamed assets, prioritizing gameplay. These are download and streaming details, not additional Battle Royale items.
How the v42.20 and v42.30 notes relate
Epic’s September 17, 2026 v42.20 ecosystem notes cover creator-facing horror tools, an Unarmed update for first- and third-person experiences, a Channel API, and UEFN weapons including the Reaper Sniper Rifle and Accelerant Drum Gun. Those are ecosystem and creator notes; they do not establish those weapons as part of the Fortnitemares Battle Royale loot pool.
The October 1, 2026 v42.30 ecosystem notes cover a conversation template, non-weapon held items, editor Content Pre-Checks, analytics benchmarks, and other ecosystem content. Fortnitemares Battle Royale changes are detailed separately in Epic’s event post.
