Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) has 17 campaign story missions, often called levels. The full mission lists include a final mission, Countdown, but Activision’s campaign rewards page refers to 16 missions, so the published sources disagree.
What is the mission-count discrepancy?
Activision’s Campaign Rewards page, dated October 18, 2022, says rewards unlock as players progress through “the 16 missions within the Campaign.” However, two complete chronological lists enumerate 17 story missions, including Countdown as mission 17: GamesAtlas and Dot Esports (updated May 18, 2023). The available sources do not explain why Activision’s page gives the lower count.
For a straightforward count of the campaign story, 17 is the answer supported by the two complete lists. The publisher’s page is a real, conflicting reference, rather than an explanation that resolves the difference.

Which Modern Warfare 2 does this count refer to?
This count is for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, released in 2022. The year matters because “Modern Warfare 2” can also refer to the older game with a similar name. Activision’s August 16, 2022 article about the Dark Water campaign level confirms the 2022 campaign’s use of “level” terminology.
