That is not a playthrough limit: you can also receive Rare Candy repeatedly as a random reward from Selphy or obtain it through the Pickup ability.
What does “14 Rare Candies” mean?
The count refers to fixed pickups placed in the game world, not the maximum number you can collect. The fixed-item count and visible/hidden split are reported by FinalBoss.io’s FireRed and LeafGreen guide, updated July 28, 2026. Repeatable sources are separate from those map pickups.

Serebii’s Rare Candy ItemDex entry lists areas including Route 6, Route 9, Route 12, Route 17, Cerulean City, Mt. Moon, Pokémon Tower, Rocket Hideout, Silph Co., Pokémon Mansion, Victory Road, Cape Brink, Resort Gorgeous, and Lost Cave. This is an area overview, not a tile-by-tile checklist; Resort Gorgeous refers to Selphy’s reward rather than another fixed pickup.

How to get Rare Candy from Selphy
- Find Selphy in Lost Cave and help her return to her home at Resort Gorgeous.
- When she requests a Pokémon registered in the Pokédex, show it to her within 250 steps.
- She gives a random reward. Rare Candy is a 5% outcome in the reward table, so repeated requests do not guarantee one on a particular attempt. The process and odds are documented in Bulbapedia’s Selphy entry.
Two specific pickup locations to check
- Cerulean City: One hidden Rare Candy is in the backyard of the northwest house. The Bulbapedia Cerulean City walkthrough identifies the spot.
- Safari Zone Warden’s house: A Rare Candy is inside the Warden’s house and requires Strength to reach, according to the Bulbapedia Fuchsia and Safari Zone walkthrough.
These are two confirmed examples, not a complete list of all seven hidden item tiles.

What does Rare Candy do?
Rare Candy raises one Pokémon’s level by one, up to level 100. In Generation III, it also slightly increases friendship. See Bulbapedia’s Rare Candy reference for the item mechanics.
