Oblivion takes place about 200 years before Skyrim. That is the commonly cited interval in Elder Scrolls timeline references, but the exact gap is not established here by a primary Bethesda chronology source.
What the timeline says
Community timeline material places The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 3E 433, near the end of the Third Era, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 4E 201, in the Fourth Era. Those dates help explain the frequently repeated description of a roughly 200-year gap; they should be treated as community-reported chronology rather than a date pairing confirmed by an official Bethesda timeline.
A Bethesda Game Studios Fandom reference likewise describes Skyrim as set 200 years after Oblivion. Since that is a community-maintained source, “about 200 years” is more careful than presenting the figure as an exact, officially verified calculation.
What Bethesda’s chronology does—and does not—confirm
Bethesda Support says The Elder Scrolls Online takes place 1,000 years before Skyrim. That provides broad context for the series timeline, but it does not establish the interval between Oblivion and Skyrim. Bethesda Support also places an event nearly 800 years before the events of TESIV; that relative dating does not specify the Skyrim gap either.

In-universe years, not release years
The roughly 200 years refer to time passing in Tamriel between the games’ stories, not the years the games were released. Oblivion launched in 2006 and Skyrim in 2011, but those real-world dates do not determine their fictional chronology.
