Does Microsoft own Take-Two?
No. Take-Two reported entering a new Xbox Publisher License Agreement with Microsoft on September 28, 2026, effective September 17, 2026. It is a licensing arrangement for Xbox-compatible products, not a purchase of Take-Two or its labels.
Take-Two’s filing says the agreement “supersedes and replaces all of the Company’s existing XBOX publisher license agreements with Microsoft.” It grants Take-Two rights to develop, publish, have products manufactured, market, advertise, distribute, and sell Xbox-compatible products for Xbox devices. Take-Two describes Rockstar Games as its wholly owned publishing label, responsible for Grand Theft Auto and other franchises; 2K is its label for franchises including BioShock, Borderlands, Mafia, Civilization, XCOM, NBA 2K, WWE 2K, PGA TOUR 2K, and TopSpin 2K. Take-Two’s Form 8-K and interim Form 10-Q identify the arrangement and labels.
What does the Xbox license cover?
The filing summary describes both publishing permissions and Microsoft’s role in the process. It also outlines payment arrangements and provisions for physical products.

The Form 8-K says this is a summary and identifies the full agreement as an exhibit to Take-Two’s quarterly report for the period ending September 30, 2026. The public summary does not state wholesale prices, revenue-share rates, approval deadlines, or a schedule of covered titles. Those terms cannot be inferred from the filing summary.
Will GTA 6 be Xbox exclusive?
No such exclusivity is announced in the public agreement summary. Rockstar’s June 24, 2026 release announcement lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a scheduled release date of November 19, 2026. It describes the game as a single-player experience. The Xbox license establishes a framework for Take-Two’s Xbox-compatible publishing; it does not say that Microsoft owns Take-Two or Rockstar, or that GTA VI’s announced PlayStation version is affected.

Rockstar announced a US$79.99 price in that June 24 release. It also said the physical edition contains a download code inside the box, and named the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store, and global retailers as purchase channels. Does the Microsoft deal change GTA 6 on PlayStation?
The available filing does not say that it changes GTA VI’s PlayStation release, timing, content, price, or platform parity. Rockstar’s announced platform list includes PS5 as well as Xbox Series X|S. The public summary does not provide GTA VI-specific commercial terms, so it cannot establish whether the agreement affects any internal publishing arrangements for that title.

What does the Xbox deal mean for NBA 2K and other 2K games?
Take-Two’s current release lineup lists NBA 2K27 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC. That makes Xbox one announced platform among several for this title; it is not evidence of a new exclusive arrangement or a change caused by the license. The lineup is available on Take-Two’s games page.
The license applies to Take-Two’s Xbox-compatible products as described in the filing, but the summary does not name individual 2K releases or disclose title-specific conditions. It therefore supports no claim that Microsoft has gained special control over a particular 2K game, or that other platforms will lose access.
