A nonstop YouTube sermon stream can use about 2.63 TB of upload data in 30 days at 720p30 or 4.58 TB at 1080p30, using YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates plus 128 kbps stereo audio. These are decimal-terabyte planning estimates for a continuous feed, before network overhead; the exact amount depends on the bitrate your encoder actually sends.
How much data does the church’s upload use?
The figures below estimate data sent from the church’s encoder to YouTube. They are not the amount consumed by viewers watching the stream, and they do not include other church internet use. YouTube transcodes live streams into output formats for viewers, who use data on their own connections. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists 8 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30, 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30, and 128 kbps for stereo audio.
| Encoder setting | Combined video and audio bitrate | Approximate upload per hour | Approximate upload in 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 H.264 video at 8 Mbps + 128 kbps stereo audio | 8.128 Mbps | 3.66 GB | 2,633 GB (about 2.63 TB) |
| 1080p30 H.264 video at 14 Mbps + 128 kbps stereo audio | 14.128 Mbps | 6.36 GB | 4,577 GB (about 4.58 TB) |
These calculations use decimal units: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes and 1 TB = 1,000 GB. They assume 30 uninterrupted days, or 720 hours. Actual network-accounted usage may be higher because of transport overhead, retransmissions, bitrate variation, and the way an ISP measures data.
How to calculate data use for your encoder
Use the encoder’s configured bitrate, not just a label such as “HD.” Add the audio bitrate if it is not already included in the total. For a steady bitrate, the calculation is:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Decimal GB = combined bitrate in Mbps × hours × 0.45
For example, 8.128 Mbps × 720 hours × 0.45 = about 2,633 GB in 30 days. Equivalently, 1 Mbps sustained for 30 days uses 324 decimal GB. The estimate scales with time: a stream running for half a month at the same bitrate uses about half the monthly amount.

Why bitrate matters more than the resolution label
Resolution and frame rate affect the bitrate an encoder may need, but the data estimate comes from the bitrate actually sent over time. YouTube’s H.264 guidance gives these relevant reference settings:
- 720p30: 8 Mbps video.
- 1080p30: 14 Mbps video.
- Stereo audio: 128 kbps.
The guidance is for encoder settings, not an India-specific broadband plan or upload-speed guarantee. If your encoder uses a different bitrate, substitute that value in the formula. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and monitoring stream health before an event. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and guidance.

Will an Indian broadband plan handle a nonstop sermon stream?
Check two separate things: whether the connection can sustain the required upload, and whether the plan’s data allowance can cover the monthly total. At the settings above, the feed alone is in the range of multiple terabytes over 30 days. Compare that estimate with the exact plan’s monthly allowance, any fair-use policy, and the speed or charges that apply after the allowance is reached.
There is no single Indian plan or speed recommendation that fits every church. Available plans and terms depend on provider and location, while the connection is also affected by local network conditions and other users. TRAI material discusses usage-limited broadband and notes that required speed varies with application, location, and concurrent users; it does not establish the allowance or post-limit terms of a particular church’s plan. TRAI broadband recommendations and a TRAI-hosted consumer submission provide context, not a current tariff for your connection.

Check sustained upload at the venue
Advertised download speed does not tell you whether the encoder can upload continuously. Test from the actual venue and network, at a normally busy time, with other church traffic present. Leave capacity for variation rather than choosing a plan whose best-case upload barely matches the encoder bitrate. Test the stream itself and monitor its health as YouTube advises.
Use the exact plan terms
Ask the ISP or check the plan details for the data cap, what happens after it, and whether the listed allowance is monthly. Account for other activity on the same connection, such as office use, downloads, and viewers on-site. The stream’s calculated upload is only one part of total broadband use.

Live camera sermon or prerecorded loop?
A camera sermon is captured and encoded at the church, then continuously uploaded from that location. The estimates above apply to that outgoing feed. A prerecorded loop is a different workflow: the uploaded recording can be streamed from a cloud service rather than encoded continuously on the church’s local connection. That can reduce the church’s ongoing upload burden, but it is not a way to broadcast a live camera or microphone.
Older approximate viewing figures—38 MB per five-minute 720p video and 62 MB per five-minute 1080p video—appear in a Reliance Jio submission hosted by TRAI. Those are historical examples for video viewing, not current live-encoder settings or a reliable budget for a nonstop stream. See the TRAI-hosted Jio submission.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the church wants a prerecorded sermon or music playlist to loop continuously on YouTube, StreamNeo runs that uploaded video from the cloud: upload the recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at the church, and no home computer, OBS setup, or home connection has to keep running. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
Every slot streams the uploaded quality as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers; it includes 10 GB of storage per slot, pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Plans can be billed for a day, a week, a month, six months, or a year, and can be cancelled any time. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. See StreamNeo for service details and current plan options.
