If your FFmpeg command has -stream_loop -1 before a lesson file, FFmpeg is configured to repeat that input indefinitely. That keeps one lesson playing; it does not rotate through a library. To show different lessons, change how the command selects content. The exact cause in your setup depends on the command and files it uses.
What -stream_loop -1 does
FFmpeg defines -stream_loop as the number of times an input is looped: 0 means no loop, while -1 means infinite looping. It is an input option, so placement matters. In ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i lesson.mp4 ..., the loop setting applies to lesson.mp4. If that is the only lesson input, the same lesson repeats. FFmpeg’s manual documents the option and its scope.
Check which file is being looped
- Look at the actual FFmpeg command that is running.
- Find every
-iand note the file or input that follows it. - Check whether
-stream_loop -1appears before the input you see repeating. - If that input is one lesson file, the repeated lesson is the expected result of the loop setting.
FFmpeg options generally apply to the next specified file, so do not assume a loop option applies to every input. Check the placement in the command itself.
One repeating lesson or a rotation?
Choose the content behavior you want. An infinite loop is suitable when one lesson should play continuously. To rotate lessons, the input workflow must select multiple files or a playlist; infinitely looping one file cannot rotate a collection.

- Repeat one lesson: loop that lesson’s input indefinitely.
- Rotate lessons: configure input selection around the collection of lessons or a playlist. The right command depends on your filenames, formats, and whether audio and video need to stay synchronized.
There is no reliable one-size-fits-all replacement command without those details. If you need help correcting a command, share the command and relevant input arrangement, but remove your YouTube stream key first.
What -re changes—and what it does not
-re is separate from choosing content. FFmpeg documents it as reading input at its native frame rate, equivalent to -readrate 1. It paces a file for a live-style output; it does not select another lesson or cancel an infinite loop. See the FFmpeg manual for its description of -re.

Check the YouTube event and stream health separately
First establish what FFmpeg is sending by checking its input and loop settings. Then inspect the YouTube broadcast and stream if the event still appears to behave unexpectedly. YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a broadcast—the watchable YouTube video—from a stream, the audiovisual transmission and its settings; its documentation also discusses 24/7 feeds. Read YouTube’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.
For encoder and connection issues, YouTube recommends selecting a quality the connection can reliably sustain, testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream, and monitoring stream health while live. Those checks can help identify transmission problems, but they do not change which input FFmpeg loops. YouTube’s live encoder settings and stream-health guidance explains the checks.
