As of October 8, 2026, Nintendo’s listed Japanese MSRP for the Switch 2 Japanese-Language System (Japan Only) is ¥59,980, including tax. The original-generation Switch models are less: ¥47,980 for OLED, ¥43,980 for the standard model, and ¥29,980 for Switch Lite. These are Nintendo’s suggested retail prices, not guaranteed prices at individual stores.
Current Nintendo Switch prices in Japan
Nintendo announced revised Japanese MSRPs on May 8, 2026; the new prices took effect May 25, 2026. Nintendo says the listed prices include tax.
| System | Japan MSRP | Price before May 25, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 Japanese-Language System (Japan Only) | ¥59,980 | ¥49,980 |
| Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) | ¥47,980 | ¥37,980 |
| Nintendo Switch | ¥43,980 | ¥32,978 |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | ¥29,980 | ¥21,978 |
These are manufacturer suggested retail prices, not a live survey of retailer offers. Store prices, discounts, and stock can differ; the official announcement does not establish current street prices.
Which Switch does the price refer to?
“Nintendo Switch” may mean the original-generation family or the newer Switch 2, so check the model name before comparing prices. The OLED, standard, and Lite prices above are for original-generation systems; ¥59,980 is for the Japan-only Japanese-Language Switch 2 system.

Switch 2 Multi-Language System
Nintendo said the price of the Switch 2 Multi-Language System available from My Nintendo Store would remain unchanged by the May 2026 revision. The announcement does not state its current price, so ¥59,980 should not be treated as its price.
Is a Nintendo Switch cheaper in Japan?
The Japanese MSRP alone cannot establish whether a Switch is cheaper than in another country. A valid comparison needs the same generation and model, current local retail prices, and consistent tax treatment. Nintendo’s announcement provides Japanese suggested prices including tax, but not current retailer prices or an international like-for-like comparison.

Does Nintendo Switch Online add to the cost?
Yes. Membership is a separate recurring service cost, not part of the console MSRP. Nintendo’s revised Japanese prices took effect July 1, 2026:
| Membership | Japan price |
|---|---|
| Individual, one month | ¥400 |
| Individual, three months | ¥1,000 |
| Individual, twelve months | ¥3,000 |
| Family, twelve months | ¥5,800 |
| Individual + Expansion Pack, twelve months | ¥5,900 |
| Family + Expansion Pack, twelve months | ¥9,900 |
Why did Nintendo raise the prices?
Nintendo described the change in its May 8, 2026 release as being “In light of changes in market conditions, and after considering the global business outlook”. That is Nintendo’s stated rationale, not an independently established explanation.
