How Much Does an RLCraft Server Cost in 2026?

An RLCraft server costs $12–$36 per month on the published CurseForge tiers, but the right budget depends on RAM, players, edition, CPU, backups and whether you self-host.

In 2026, the published CurseForge hosted-server tiers cost $12, $24, or $36 per month. They include, respectively, 4GB RAM with 2 shared CPUs, 8GB with 3 shared CPUs, or 12GB with 4 shared CPUs. The $12 tier is the lowest official starting price, but 4GB can be a tight allocation for a heavily modded RLCraft world. An 8GB plan is a more practical starting point for a small group, while larger groups should budget for at least 12GB or consider self-hosting.

Your total cost also depends on which RLCraft edition you run, player count, backups, location, bandwidth, and whether you supply your own hardware. The official RLCraft pack is the 1.12.2 Forge pack; its CurseForge listing identifies version 2.9.3, released June 27, 2023, and advises Forge 2860 or newer.

Published hosted-server prices for RLCraft

CurseForge’s 2026 server setup guide lists three monthly tiers. CurseForge says the service is powered by Shockbyte and uses Tebex for billing. These are subscription prices, not a complete estimate of every possible cost such as optional backups, a domain, electricity, or a self-hosted computer.

Monthly price RAM CPU allocation What the published information establishes
$12/month 4GB 2 shared CPUs Lowest listed hosted tier; player capacity is not stated.
$24/month 8GB 3 shared CPUs Middle tier; its RAM matches the 8GB server recommendation on the RLCraft Dregora page, but that does not guarantee a particular player count.
$36/month 12GB 4 shared CPUs Largest of the three listed tiers; a sensible baseline for a larger group, subject to world and mod load.

The guide’s workflow includes choosing a plan and a region. Region selection matters because physical distance affects latency, but the supplied pricing information does not establish which locations, backup policies, support response times, storage limits, or player slots are included in each tier. Confirm those items at checkout before treating the monthly price as your final budget.

How much RAM does an RLCraft server need?

There is no single RAM number that fits every RLCraft server. World-generation settings, view distance, entity counts, additional mods, CPU performance, and the number of active players all change the requirement.

Official RLCraft guidance

The standard RLCraft CurseForge page says the default 1GB allocation is not enough and recommends 3–4GB for the client. Client memory is not the same as the server allocation, but it demonstrates why a 1GB server plan is unsuitable for this modpack.

For the RLCraft Dregora edition, its CurseForge page specifies 6–8GB of RAM and says 8GB is recommended for servers. Dregora is a separate RLCraft-based edition, so use that figure as a guide for Dregora rather than as a guaranteed requirement for every standard RLCraft installation.

Player-count planning estimates

A 2026 analysis by FindYourMinecraftServer estimates approximately 12GB for five players, 17GB for ten players, and 27GB for twenty players. Those figures are planning estimates, not an official RLCraft specification. Generation activity, render distance, added mods, CPU speed, and how many players are exploring new terrain at once can move the real requirement substantially.

Concurrent players Planning estimate How to interpret it
5 About 12GB Use as a conservative budgeting signal, not a guaranteed minimum.
10 About 17GB Likely requires a plan above the three basic CurseForge tiers.
20 About 27GB Price larger plans or self-hosting hardware; the published three-tier table does not cover this allocation.

Which budget fits your group?

One to a few players on a lightly loaded world

The $12 plan is the cheapest listed hosted option. Its 4GB allocation may work for a small, carefully configured server, but it leaves little headroom for simultaneous exploration, extra mods, high view distance, or a growing world. Treat it as an entry point rather than a promise of smooth performance.

A small group that wants headroom

The $24 plan supplies 8GB and 3 shared CPUs. That aligns with the Dregora page’s 8GB server recommendation and gives more room than the 4GB tier. It still may not satisfy the 12GB planning estimate for five active players, especially while the server generates new terrain. Monitor memory use and tick performance instead of assuming that a plan’s advertised RAM equals a fixed player capacity.

  • DDR4 260 Pin Non-ECC SODIMM, Timing 22-22-22, CAS Latency of 22, 1.2 Volts

Larger groups or intensive exploration

The $36 plan provides 12GB and 4 shared CPUs. It reaches the published estimate for about five players, but estimates are workload-dependent and do not establish a hard slot count. Ten or twenty players should be budgeted against the higher 17GB and 27GB planning figures, which means comparing larger allocations or supplying a machine with more memory.

What a hosted budget should include

  • Recurring hosting: $12, $24, or $36 per month for the listed CurseForge tiers.
  • RAM headroom: choose based on active players and exploration, not only the number of players you expect to invite.
  • CPU capacity: the tiers list shared CPU counts, but no benchmark is provided; CPU limits can cause lag even when RAM is available.
  • Region and latency: select a region close to most players when the host offers that choice.
  • Backups and recovery: verify whether automated backups, retention, and restoration are included or charged separately.
  • Support and deployment: check whether the exact RLCraft server pack can be installed through a one-click workflow or requires manual files.
  • Growth: leave room in the budget for upgrading RAM if exploration or player activity increases.

No published statistic establishes an average annual cost of owning or operating an RLCraft server. Multiplying a monthly tier by twelve gives only the subscription portion of the year; it does not account for optional services or self-hosting expenses.

Use the correct RLCraft files and Forge version

For official RLCraft, install the 1.12.2 Forge pack and its matching server pack. The CurseForge listing identifies version 2.9.3 as the latest release dated June 27, 2023 and advises Forge 2860 or newer. The server and every player’s client need compatible modpack and Forge versions; mixing a current client with a different server pack is a common cause of connection errors.

How to start an RLCraft server with a host

  1. Select the plan: choose 4GB/$12, 8GB/$24, or 12GB/$36 according to your expected workload, not merely the number of accounts you will create.
  2. Choose a region: select the location that minimizes latency for the majority of players.
  3. Install the pack: choose the official RLCraft 1.12.2 server pack, or upload the matching server files if the panel does not provide one-click deployment.
  4. Verify Forge: confirm that the server runs Forge 1.12.2-14.23.5.2860 or a newer compatible 1.12.2 Forge build, as advised by the pack listing.
  5. Set memory and Java options: keep the allocation within the plan’s limit and follow the host’s Java guidance for the 1.12.2 server.
  6. Start once and accept the EULA: stop the server, edit the generated eula.txt only if you agree to Mojang’s terms, then restart.
  7. Test before inviting everyone: connect with one client, check logs for missing mods, and generate terrain near the intended base.
  8. Configure recovery: schedule or verify backups, test a restore, and restrict operator permissions to trusted administrators.

The exact panel labels, included storage, backup schedule, and support terms are host-specific, so read those details before paying for a long period.

How to self-host an RLCraft server

Self-hosting can reduce or eliminate a monthly hosting bill, but it moves the work and risk to you. You provide the computer, stable upload bandwidth, power, operating-system updates, firewall configuration, backups, and troubleshooting.

  1. Obtain the matching RLCraft server pack: use the official 1.12.2 pack corresponding to the clients you will run.
  2. Install Forge: the RLCraft Wiki installation guide documents Forge 1.12.2-14.23.5.2860.
  3. Allocate memory: the guide gives a 4GB JVM allocation example. That is an example starting configuration, not proof that 4GB is sufficient for your player count.
  4. Run the installer and first launch: allow the server to create its files, accept the EULA after reviewing it, and confirm that the expected mods load without errors.
  5. Make the server reachable: configure the local firewall and router port forwarding only if your network permits it; use a private whitelist rather than exposing an unprotected server.
  6. Measure under load: test with the maximum expected players while exploring new terrain, then adjust memory, view distance, simulation settings, or hardware as needed.
  7. Back up off the machine: copy the world and configuration to separate storage and periodically test that a backup can be restored.

The monetary trade-off is straightforward: you avoid the listed $12–$36 monthly subscription, but electricity, hardware depreciation, internet service, storage, and your maintenance time become the real operating costs. A home connection can also have upload limits or changing public addresses that make a hosted service more convenient.

Hosted service or self-hosting?

Consideration Hosted server Self-hosted server
Up-front setup Plan selection, region choice, and pack deployment through a control panel. Download pack, install Forge, configure Java, firewall, networking, and backups.
Monthly cost $12, $24, or $36 for the listed tiers. No fixed hosting subscription, but hardware, electricity, bandwidth, and storage still cost money.
Scaling Usually an upgrade to a larger allocation; verify available plans. Add RAM or replace hardware yourself.
Maintenance Host manages the underlying machine; you still manage mods, worlds, permissions, and backups. You manage the operating system, security, hardware failures, and all game configuration.
Latency Choose an available region near the players. Depends on the home connection and physical location of the host machine.
Recovery Depends on the provider’s backup and restore terms. You must create, store, and test your own backups.

Common budgeting mistakes and fixes

Choosing by player slots alone

A slot count does not tell you how much memory terrain generation or mod activity will consume. Fix this by budgeting RAM and CPU together, then testing the busiest realistic scenario.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assuming 8GB always means five players

The Dregora page recommends 8GB for servers, while the separate 2026 planning analysis estimates about 12GB for five players. These statements describe different evidence and should not be treated as contradictory guarantees. Fix the mismatch by identifying the exact edition, mods, view distance, and exploration pattern you will run.

Installing mismatched files

Using the standard client with a different server pack, or using an incompatible Forge build, can produce missing-mod and handshake errors. Fix it by pinning every client and the server to the same RLCraft release and compatible 1.12.2 Forge version.

Ignoring backups

RLCraft worlds represent substantial time, and corruption or an incorrect mod change can make recovery urgent. Confirm the backup schedule, retention, and restore process on a host, or implement and test all three yourself when self-hosting.

Paying for more RAM without checking CPU or latency

More memory cannot correct every lag problem. Shared CPU limits, slow storage, long-distance connections, and unoptimized settings can remain bottlenecks. Check server timings and host limits before upgrading solely for RAM.

Practical 2026 budget recommendations

  • Lowest-cost hosted trial: budget $12 for one month on the 4GB tier, invite only a small group, and test exploration and stability before committing.
  • Balanced small-group starting point: budget $24 per month for 8GB and 3 shared CPUs when you want more headroom than the entry tier.
  • Five-player planning baseline: compare the $36 12GB tier with larger plans because one 2026 estimate places five players at about 12GB, while actual use varies.
  • Ten or more active players: price allocations above 12GB; the published estimates are about 17GB for ten and 27GB for twenty.
  • Technical hobbyist: self-host if you already own suitable hardware and can handle networking, security, backups, and downtime.
