A single, self-hosted n8n instance on a 4 GB VPS is generally reported at about $5–$20 per month for the server. That is the infrastructure bill, not the full cost: you also supply PostgreSQL, backups, updates, monitoring and your own administration time. Queue mode, larger payloads or several concurrent workers usually move the design toward 8 GB of RAM and a higher monthly bill.
Antihost offers VPS plans with one-click n8n, NVMe storage and a 14-day free trial.
The figures below are planning ranges gathered from third-party hosting guides. Provider prices and specifications can change, and the commonly quoted minimum of 2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM and 20 GB SSD was not confirmed against an official n8n sizing page, so treat it as a starting point rather than a guarantee.

The cheapest workable setup is normally a single n8n process with PostgreSQL on a small virtual server. The following prices were reported by third-party guides; they were not live-verified and the publication year for most of the guides was not stated.
| Example plan or architecture | Reported resources | Reported monthly price | What it represents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget single instance | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB disk | About $4.51 | A low-cost VPS example suitable for a basic n8n installation, subject to the provider’s current availability and terms. |
| Testing VPS | Not stated in the cited guide | $10 (KVM1) | A VPS.US tier described for testing; resources were not included in the supplied figure. |
| Stronger testing or small production VPS | Not stated in the cited guide | $20 (KVM2) | A VPS.US tier described as a larger option than KVM1. |
| Production VPS | Not stated in the cited guide | $40 (KVM4) | A VPS.US tier labelled for production in that guide; do not assume the label guarantees capacity for your workload. |
| 8 GB single-server example | 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB NVMe | $19.16 | A MassiveGrid Professional plan cited as an example of the capacity often chosen for heavier jobs. |
| Managed n8n example | 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM | About $17 | An Elestio managed-hosting figure from one guide. Management may reduce administration work, but the quoted resources are below the 4 GB practical target for many self-hosted production workloads. |
These amounts are not a universal price list. Region, billing term, backups, bandwidth policies, taxes and stock can change the total. Use them to set a budget, then confirm the current plan page before ordering.

What the VPS bill does—and does not—cover
A VPS gives you virtual CPU, memory, storage and network access. n8n itself can be run as software on that server, but a reliable deployment also needs a database and an operating routine.
Included in a basic infrastructure budget
- The virtual machine with the selected vCPU, RAM and disk allocation.
- The operating-system and container runtime you install on it.
- Network connectivity subject to the provider’s plan limits.
Still your responsibility
- Installing n8n and PostgreSQL, usually with Docker Compose for a production-style setup.
- Applying security updates, n8n upgrades and database maintenance.
- Backups, restore testing, logs, alerting and incident recovery.
- Extra storage when execution history or binary files grow.
- Redis, external object storage or additional worker servers when you use queue mode.
Consequently, a $5 server is not a $5 automation service. The value of self-hosting is control and a predictable infrastructure bill; the trade-off is the time needed to operate it.

Hosting guides commonly repeat 2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM and 20 GB SSD as a minimum. The supplied material did not verify those numbers on an official n8n sizing page, so they should be treated as an unconfirmed baseline for light experiments rather than a production promise.

Basic single-instance target
For a small production installation, guides generally recommend 4 GB RAM. A single n8n process, PostgreSQL and Docker can fit in that range when workflows are modest and execution history is controlled. Plan for at least 20 GB of storage unless you have a deliberate pruning policy; database files, logs and binary payloads consume space over time.
Heavier workloads
Move toward 8 GB RAM and 4 vCPU when workflows run in parallel, process large payloads or perform CPU-intensive transformations. This is a practical recommendation from hosting guides, not an official n8n sizing guarantee. Monitor real memory and CPU use after deployment instead of buying the largest plan on day one.
Storage planning
Execution data can accumulate even when individual workflows are small. Set retention and pruning rules, check database growth and leave free space for temporary files. If you use queue mode with persisted binary data, filesystem storage is not supported for that binary data; you need S3-compatible external storage, which introduces a separate storage charge.

Why queue mode costs more
Queue mode separates the process that accepts work from workers that execute it. That lets you add workers, but each component consumes memory and needs supporting services.
Components you must budget for
- Main n8n process: handles the editor, API and coordination.
- Workers: execute queued jobs. A guide estimates about 8 GB RAM for PostgreSQL, Redis, n8n, two workers and Docker on one server.
- Redis: the message broker required by queue mode.
- Database: PostgreSQL is the production database recommended by n8n. SQLite is not supported for distributed queue-mode setups.
- Task runners: each worker needs its own sidecar container for task runners.
- Object storage: required when queue-mode workflows must persist binary data, because filesystem binary storage is unsupported in that mode.
You can place workers on separate machines if they can reach Redis and the database. That can improve isolation, but it creates more VPS bills and more networking, patching and monitoring work.
Concurrency and database pressure
n8n recommends a concurrency setting of 5 or higher per worker. Setting a low concurrency while adding many workers can exhaust the database connection pool: the server count rises, but the database cannot accept the resulting connections efficiently. Size PostgreSQL and its connection limits together with worker count.

Load-balancer placement
Keep the main process out of the webhook load-balancer pool. Sending webhook traffic to the main process alongside worker traffic can degrade editor and UI responsiveness. Route execution capacity to workers while preserving a responsive main instance.
PostgreSQL, Redis and high availability
PostgreSQL version and role
n8n recommends PostgreSQL 13 or later. PostgreSQL is the appropriate choice for a production-style deployment and is required alongside Redis for queue mode. A small single-instance installation can run PostgreSQL on the same VPS, while a larger design may place it on a separate managed or dedicated database service.
Multi-main high availability
Running several main n8n processes is a different budget category. Multi-main high availability is available only with a self-hosted Enterprise licence and requires sticky sessions behind a load balancer. You must therefore budget for the licence, the load balancer, multiple main instances and the operational complexity of coordinating them. Queue mode by itself does not grant multi-main high availability.
Self-managed VPS versus managed hosting
| Question | Self-managed VPS | Managed n8n hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Typical reported entry price | About $5–$20 per month for a 4 GB single-instance design | About $17 per month in one guide for 1 vCPU and 2 GB RAM |
| Who patches the server? | You | The managed provider, within its service scope |
| Database and backups | You choose, configure and verify them | May be included or offered as options; confirm the exact policy |
| Scaling queue workers | You add VPS capacity, Redis, task-runner sidecars and storage | May be available through the provider’s controls and pricing |
| Control and customization | Highest control over Docker, networking and data location | Less infrastructure work, but bounded by the provider’s platform |
A managed service can be cheaper in total if your time is scarce, even when its server line item costs more than a raw VPS. Conversely, a technically experienced operator with simple workflows may save money by running Docker Compose directly.

Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
A cost-conscious deployment path
- Classify the workload. Count active workflows, estimate simultaneous executions, identify large payloads and decide whether you need queue mode. Do not start with workers if a single process meets the requirement.
- Select capacity. Use 4 GB RAM as a practical target for a basic production instance. Choose 8 GB and around 4 vCPU when parallelism or payload size justifies it. Keep at least 20 GB of storage and leave headroom for database growth.
- Prepare the host. Use a supported Linux distribution, install Docker and Docker Compose, and restrict administrative access. The n8n host guide supports Docker on Linux or macOS; Windows deployments generally use WSL.
- Deploy PostgreSQL. Use PostgreSQL 13 or later, persistent volumes and a backup routine. Keep credentials outside workflow definitions and rotate them if exposed.
- Set retention and monitoring. Prune old executions, watch RAM, CPU, disk and database size, and test that alerts reach a person who can act.
- Add queue mode only when needed. Introduce Redis, workers and task-runner sidecars, then size the database connection pool for the chosen per-worker concurrency. Use external S3-compatible storage for persisted binary data.
- Test recovery. Restore a database backup and verify that credentials, webhooks and binary objects can be recovered before calling the deployment production-ready.
Example monthly budgets by workload
| Workload | Likely shape | Infrastructure planning range | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal automation or prototype | One n8n process, PostgreSQL on the same VPS, light execution volume | Roughly $5–$10 per month based on reported budget VPS examples | Insufficient memory or disk if history and logs are never pruned |
| Small production service | One process, PostgreSQL, backups, about 4 GB RAM | Roughly $10–$20 per month in the cited VPS range, plus any backup or storage charges | Downtime during maintenance and lack of tested restores |
| Parallel execution | Queue mode, Redis, PostgreSQL, two workers and Docker | Plan around an 8 GB-class server or split components across servers; price depends on worker count and storage | Database connection exhaustion, binary-storage costs and worker coordination |
| High availability | Multiple main processes, load balancer with sticky sessions, queue workers | More than the VPS figures above, plus a self-hosted Enterprise licence | Operational complexity and licence cost |
The ranges describe server capacity, not a guaranteed total cost of ownership. Add your chosen backup, object-storage and managed-database fees where applicable.
How the cost compares with n8n Cloud
One third-party source cites an n8n Cloud Pro price of $50 per month for 10,000 executions and 15 active workflows. That figure was not verified on n8n.io in the material available here, so confirm the current plan, execution allowance and regional currency directly before using it in a purchase decision.
The useful comparison is not simply $5 VPS versus $50 cloud. Cloud pricing bundles platform operations, while self-hosting combines the VPS bill with your setup, upgrades, backup and recovery time. Estimate the hours you will spend each month and assign them a value; that often determines which option is actually cheaper for a small team.
Checklist before ordering a VPS
- Confirm the plan’s current RAM, vCPU, disk type and regional price.
- Reserve memory for PostgreSQL, Docker, n8n and the operating system; do not allocate every megabyte to workflow execution.
- Check whether backups are snapshots, independent copies or neither, and test a restore.
- Decide how long execution history should be retained and configure pruning before disk usage becomes urgent.
- Determine whether workflows handle binary files. Queue mode requires S3-compatible storage for persisted binaries.
- Choose a PostgreSQL 13-or-newer deployment and plan connection limits before adding workers.
- Keep the main process away from the webhook load-balancer pool.
- If you require multi-main high availability, include the self-hosted Enterprise licence and sticky-session load balancer in the budget.
- Recheck every quoted provider price at checkout because the cited figures are third-party snapshots, not live quotations.
Bottom line
For 2026 planning, budget $5–$20 per month for a straightforward, single-instance n8n deployment on a 4 GB VPS, then add the value of your administration time and any backup storage. Queue mode with Redis, PostgreSQL, two workers and task runners commonly pushes the design toward 8 GB RAM and a higher bill. PostgreSQL 13 or later, deliberate storage retention and tested backups matter more than choosing the absolute cheapest server.
