Studio is the interface for managing a stream; the costs of keeping one running depend on how you produce it. You might use a computer and software encoder you already own, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service, alongside any internet and electricity costs.
What you pay for—and what you do not
YouTube’s guidance covers how to start a live stream and configure an encoder, but it does not publish a distinct 24/7 streaming charge for YouTube Studio. A Studio fee should not be confused with the operating costs of the equipment or service that sends video to YouTube. YouTube’s live-stream overview and encoder guide explain the workflow and supported approaches.
For a continuous channel, the relevant costs can include internet service, electricity, a computer or hardware encoder, and optional cloud encoding. Those costs vary by setup and location, so there is no responsible universal monthly total for running a 24/7 channel.
Ways to keep a stream running, and their cost drivers
| Approach | What runs the stream | What affects your cost |
|---|---|---|
| Computer and software encoder | Your computer encodes and sends the stream while it is running. | Whether you already own the computer, its electricity use, internet service, and the time and reliability involved in operating it. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | A standalone device encodes and sends the live production. | Hardware purchase and operating costs. YouTube supports hardware encoders but does not require one; it says expensive equipment is not needed to get started. For higher-production events, it recommends professional-grade hardware encoders. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips. |
| Cloud encoding or a continuous-stream service | A cloud service handles some or all of the encoding and stream operation. | The provider’s billing model and configuration. YouTube’s encoder guide names cloud services for 24/7 streams of prerecorded video; that is a specific use case, not a requirement for every live camera production. |
If you want prerecorded video to run continuously, YouTube’s encoder guide identifies services including Gyre and Upstream. The guide does not establish their current prices or terms, so check each provider’s current offering before budgeting.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cloud service charges are separate from YouTube Studio
Cloud encoding can add a usage bill, but it is not a YouTube Studio fee. For example, AWS Elemental MediaLive pricing is calculated from inputs, outputs, and add-on features, and data-transfer charges may also apply. Google Cloud Live Stream API pricing uses hourly active-channel pricing and states that there is no free usage tier. Neither service’s price should be presented as the price of YouTube Studio; request or calculate a cost for the actual configuration.
Google Cloud also documents a maximum active session of up to 24 hours for a Live Stream API channel before it may need to be restarted. That limit applies to that API, not to YouTube Studio. See Google Cloud’s quotas and limits.

What YouTube requires before you can go live
- Enable live streaming on an eligible channel. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-stream overview for the current activation workflow.
- Choose a streaming method. YouTube supports webcam and encoder workflows. An encoder may be software running on a computer or standalone hardware; neither a paid encoder nor a cloud service is a universal requirement.
- Configure the encoder for your video. Match the settings to the resolution, frame rate, and codec of your production. YouTube’s recommendations include 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p/30 fps and 14 Mbps at 1080p/60 fps. These are encoder bitrate recommendations, not subscription prices. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings for the appropriate recommendation for your chosen format, and use RTMPS for secure stream ingestion as YouTube recommends.
- Protect against connection interruptions. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate. Test the connection under realistic conditions and leave capacity for other network activity; a network interruption can break a stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Monitor the stream and plan for the archive. Check stream health while broadcasting. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that a single 24/7 session will be automatically archived in full under that rule. See YouTube’s encoder guide.
How to estimate your own 24/7 cost
- Start with what you own. If you already have a suitable computer, encoder, and internet connection, consider the added electricity and operating effort rather than counting the purchase price as a new monthly fee.
- Account for always-on operation. A computer-based stream depends on the computer, software, power, and home internet staying available. Hardware or cloud operation changes who maintains the stream, but may bring purchase or service charges.
- Price cloud configurations individually. Inputs, outputs, add-ons, active runtime, resolution, and applicable data transfer can affect cloud costs. Do not extrapolate a 24/7 bill from a generic hourly number without matching the service configuration.
- Separate audience delivery from production. Keep any encoding, internet, equipment, and applicable delivery charges separate from a YouTube Studio fee; YouTube’s reviewed official guides do not establish such a 24/7 Studio fee.
- Decide whether one continuous archive matters. YouTube’s automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours, so plan recording and archiving separately if you need a longer session preserved.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded-video loop on YouTube, StreamNeo is an alternative to keeping a home computer online: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube and plays uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
