There is no single fix for a YouTube 24/7 stream that stops after a few hours: the cause depends on what the encoder, YouTube Live Control Room and network were doing at the moment it stopped. Start by recording the exact stop time and error, then compare encoder output and logs with YouTube’s stream status. Check CPU load and outbound connection quality before changing settings or replacing your stream key.
First, identify what “stopped” means
When the stream fails, note the exact time and what each screen shows. YouTube may report that the stream ended, or it may simply stop receiving the encoder’s feed; those states point to different parts of the chain. Save the encoder log and any visible error before restarting or changing settings. Without the encoder, its version, the error and timestamp, and the dashboard state, the cause cannot be identified from the duration alone.
- Record whether the encoder says it is still streaming, disconnected, or has exited.
- Record whether YouTube Live Control Room shows an ended stream or a lost incoming feed.
- Save any error text and the relevant encoder log. Do not share screenshots or logs that expose your stream key.
Compare the encoder with YouTube Live Control Room
Check the live dashboard for encoder errors and inspect the encoder’s local output. YouTube recommends checking the signal, encoder errors and CPU load; if the local output looks healthy, test outbound internet connectivity. If available, inspect the local recording or archive too: it can help show whether the encoder itself continued producing picture and sound when YouTube stopped receiving them. See YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance.
If the local output is also broken
A bad or frozen local picture, missing audio, an encoder error, or a process that has exited points you toward the encoder, source or computer rather than proving a YouTube-side fault. Check the encoder’s error details and CPU load around the stop time. YouTube recommends using up-to-date encoder software. If you test a different encoder, first preserve the original logs; switching is a diagnostic step, not proof that the original encoder caused the interruption.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the encoder looks healthy but YouTube loses the feed
Test the outbound connection from the streaming setup under the conditions in which it normally runs. A speed result from another time may not describe the connection during the failure. If you use OBS, dropped frames are a clue: OBS says they can indicate an unstable connection to the remote server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain, and enough dropped frames can lead to a disconnect. Follow the OBS connection troubleshooting guidance. YouTube advises contacting your ISP if connection testing reveals a problem.
Fix the cause that the evidence points to
Connection instability or dropped frames
Use the encoder’s dropped-frame and connection status around the recorded stop time, then test the outbound link while the stream is running. If the connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate or is unstable, address that path before raising bitrate or changing unrelated video settings. If the streaming computer is on Wi-Fi, a wired Ethernet connection is a reasonable diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed fix: it cannot resolve an ISP outage, routing problem, YouTube ingest issue, encoder crash or power interruption.

Encoder errors, local signal problems or high CPU load
Check the encoder’s error report and local recording, and compare CPU load at the time of failure. Update the encoder as YouTube recommends. If you try another encoder, do so after capturing the original error so you can compare behavior rather than lose the evidence. A different encoder setup may help isolate a fault, but it is not an established cure for a stream that runs for hours and then stops.
Startup errors and stream keys
Do not assume the stream key caused a delayed interruption. YouTube’s instruction to create a new stream key applies to certain third-party encoder startup errors; it does not establish that refreshing a key fixes a stream that was already running for hours. Change the key only when the observed error matches that guidance, and keep the new key private.

Codec or keyframe errors
YouTube lists codec and keyframe configuration among its live-stream error categories. Check those settings if the dashboard reports a matching error; do not treat them as the cause of a multi-hour stop in the absence of that evidence. The specific encoder and error determine which setting, if any, needs attention.
Do not mistake YouTube’s archive behavior for a stream limit
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive behavior, not a stated limit that explains why a stream stops after a few hours. YouTube’s encoder guide says, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” That describes normal ending behavior; it does not diagnose an unexpected interruption. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guide.

When the problem persists
Keep a compact record for YouTube or encoder support rather than repeatedly changing settings without evidence.
- Exact stop time and time zone.
- Encoder name and version, whether its process remained live, and the relevant log or error text.
- YouTube Live Control Room state at the stop: ended stream or lost incoming feed.
- Whether local audio and video continued, and CPU load around the failure.
- Connection results taken while the setup was under its normal streaming load, including any dropped-frame indication.
Keep stream keys and other credentials out of anything you send or publish.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a stream stopping after a few hours prove YouTube ended it?
No. Check whether Live Control Room says the stream ended or lost its incoming feed, then compare that state with the encoder.
Should I post my stream key when asking for help?
No. Keep the key private; remove it from screenshots and logs before sharing them.
