For modern World of Warcraft, you do not need to gear for a Hit cap: Blizzard removed Hit as a secondary stat in the Warlords of Draenor-era changes. If you mean a legacy or Classic ruleset, there is no safe one-size-fits-all answer. A dated Mists of Pandaria Classic forum reply suggests 4% spell hit as a PvP soft cap and 6% as a hard cap for its context, but that is community guidance—not a universal rule.
How much Hit do you need for PvP?
It depends on which World of Warcraft ruleset you are playing. In modern WoW, Hit is not a secondary stat to stack, so there is no current Hit-rating cap to gear toward. In older or Classic versions, the answer can vary with the version, character, attack type, target, talents, and racials.
Modern WoW: there is no Hit rating cap to gear for
Blizzard’s Warlords of Draenor-era stat changes removed Hit and Expertise as secondary stats, converting item bonuses into other secondary stats. Blizzard also said the change was applied retroactively to Mists of Pandaria items. See Blizzard’s Warlords of Draenor beta patch notes.
The notes’ specific hit-chance example says characters had a 100% chance to hit creatures up to three levels higher. That statement is about creatures; it should not be treated as a complete explanation of every modern PvP miss interaction.

Legacy and Classic versions: why answers differ
Older versions used Hit differently. In its Mists of Pandaria design explanation, Blizzard described Hit and spell Hit as combined: Hit could negate melee miss and spell miss, and one percent of Hit and Expertise required the same amount of rating. Is 4% Hit enough?
A dated Blizzard-hosted Mists of Pandaria Classic discussion about a level 80 Affliction Warlock in PvP includes a reply calling 4% spell hit a soft cap and 6% a hard cap intended to negate racials. The responder also cautions that some talents can still cause spells to miss or be resisted. Treat those figures as advice from that discussion, not as an authoritative cap table for every Mists of Pandaria Classic character or PvP matchup. What to check before using a legacy number
- Exact game version and patch: “Classic” can refer to different rulesets.
- Your character’s level and class/spec.
- Whether you mean spell hit or melee hit.
- The target and its level.
- Talents, racials, or other effects that change miss chance.
The available sources do not establish a complete, authoritative PvP cap table for every combination. Without those details, quoting a single legacy number risks giving the wrong answer.

What to do if you are unsure which answer applies
- Identify the exact WoW version and patch you are playing.
- Confirm whether your attack is a spell or a melee attack.
- Check the character and target details, including level, talents, and racials.
- Use guidance specific to that combination; do not carry an old Hit percentage into modern WoW.
