A used PS4 controller’s price depends on whether it is genuine, tested, and in good working condition—not just how clean it looks. The available examples below are individual sales and listings from different years, so they do not establish a single typical price or a representative 2024 average.
What do used PS4 controllers cost?
These dated examples show why condition and sale type matter. They are not directly comparable and should not be treated as a current price guide or a market average.

The 2024 entries are two isolated sales, not enough evidence to claim a typical 2024 price or condition-adjusted range. The 2025 sales show that tested and untested units can differ, but they are individual transactions, not a standard price spread. The Best Buy figure is a sold-out retailer listing, while the Poshmark figure is an asking price rather than a completed sale. Check the individual PriceCharting sale records and current listings before deciding what to pay.
What to check before buying
A seller’s description and return terms matter as much as the headline price. No universal grading standard is established by these listings; ask what was actually tested and compare the delivered total, including shipping.

- Authenticity and model: Confirm the controller is a Sony DualShock 4 and ask for clear photos of the model label and overall condition.
- Sticks: Ask whether both analog sticks were checked for drift, dead zones, and smooth movement.
- Buttons and triggers: Confirm face buttons, shoulder buttons, D-pad, triggers, touchpad, and other controls respond.
- Charging and battery: Ask whether it charges and how well it holds charge. Sony notes that battery duration decreases with repeated use and age, and varies with storage, use, and environmental factors in its DUALSHOCK 4 CUH-ZCT2G safety and battery information.
- Port and wireless connection: Check the USB port for damage and ask whether the controller connects wirelessly to a PS4.
- Wear and accessories: Look for damaged sticks, cracks, worn buttons, and missing accessories. A cable may be useful for charging and pairing.
- Returns and warranty: Check the seller’s return window and any refurb warranty terms; do not assume protection is the same across sellers.
Cosmetic cleanliness does not establish that the controls, battery, charging port, or wireless connection work. Treat “tested” as useful only when the seller can say what functions were checked. If the controller is untested, price it as an unknown-condition purchase and consider whether you are willing to accept the risk.
How to pair a used DualShock 4 with a PS4
Sony says the first use, or use with another PS4 system, requires pairing. Its instructions say to turn on the PS4 and connect the controller with a USB cable. See Sony’s DUALSHOCK 4 CUH-ZCT2G instructions and specifications. Use a cable capable of data transfer; a cable that only charges may not complete pairing.

- Connect the controller to the PS4 with a USB cable.
- Press the PS button and follow the on-screen pairing behavior.
How sellers can price and describe one fairly
Because the available sales do not establish a reliable average, set an asking price by comparing recent listings for the same model and condition, then account for shipping and buyer protections. Be precise about what is known rather than presenting an untested controller as fully working.
- State the model number and whether it is genuine Sony hardware.
- Describe cosmetic wear and photograph it clearly.
- Say which sticks, buttons, triggers, charging, battery hold, and wireless pairing you personally checked.
- Disclose faults, intermittent behavior, or unknown condition, and label parts-only or untested units accordingly.
- List included cables or accessories and clarify shipping and return terms.
For model-specific details, do not assume every DualShock 4 has identical specifications. Sony lists a built-in 1000 mAh lithium-ion battery for CUH-ZCT2G in its model manual; verify the suffix on the controller before applying that specification.
