There is no single U.S. price for a PS5 with tax: the final amount depends on the console edition, seller, and delivery location. Sony’s recommended retail prices, effective April 2, 2026, are $649.99 for PS5, $599.99 for PS5 Digital Edition, and $899.99 for PS5 Pro, all before applicable tax. Sony’s 2026 price announcement sets the current U.S. figures.
Current U.S. PS5 prices before tax
Sony’s recommended retail prices are the manufacturer’s suggested prices, not a guarantee that every retailer charges the same amount or has the console in stock.
| Model | U.S. recommended retail price | Disc drive |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | $649.99 before tax | Included |
| PS5 Digital Edition | $599.99 before tax | Not included |
| PS5 Pro | $899.99 before tax | Check the current product listing for its configuration and bundle contents |
The prices are from Sony’s announcement, effective April 2, 2026. The disc-drive distinction for PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition is described in Sony’s PS5 FAQ. Because that FAQ dates to November 2020, use it for the drive distinction, not current pricing.
Why there is no one PS5 price after tax
Sales tax depends on the transaction and delivery location, and the seller’s checkout total is the best figure to use. PlayStation’s U.S. terms say prices generally do not include sales tax; applicable tax is calculated and added when the transaction is completed, except where local law requires tax-inclusive prices. That policy describes PlayStation transactions; an independent retailer may have its own checkout presentation and tax handling. See the PlayStation U.S. Terms of Service.

A location-specific estimate requires at least the selected model, retailer, delivery ZIP code or jurisdiction, and current checkout price. Without those details, a national after-tax total would be misleading.

How to estimate the total
- Choose the model and note its current pre-tax price from the retailer or Sony’s announced U.S. recommended retail price.
- Use the sales-tax rate that applies to the specific delivery location and transaction date. If you do not know the applicable rate, proceed to checkout for the seller’s calculated tax.
- For a rough estimate, multiply the pre-tax price by 1 plus the tax rate expressed as a decimal. For example, at a hypothetical 8% rate, a $649.99 PS5 would cost $701.99 before shipping or other charges. This is illustrative arithmetic, not a rate for any particular state or city.
- Check the checkout total and keep shipping, games, controllers, protection plans, and other optional items separate unless the listing explicitly includes them in a bundle.
What to check before comparing console totals
- Edition: PS5 Digital Edition is $50 below the standard PS5 at Sony’s announced U.S. prices, and Sony’s FAQ says it does not include a disc drive. The standard PS5 includes an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive.
- Listing and bundle contents: Confirm which model is being sold and what the listing includes. Accessories such as DualSense controllers and headsets appear in Sony’s U.S. accessories catalog; do not assume they are included with a console unless the listing says so.
- Seller price: Sony’s recommended retail price is not necessarily the retailer’s current price. Compare the actual item price and checkout tax for the same delivery location.
