Larix Broadcaster’s mobile data use depends mainly on the stream’s average bitrate and how long you broadcast. For a quick estimate, multiply bitrate in Mbps by stream hours and by 0.45: decimal GB ≈ Mbps × hours × 0.45. At 10 Mbps, for example, a one-hour stream uses about 4.5 GB of encoded video data; allow extra room for network overhead and carrier-accounting differences.
Estimate data use from bitrate and duration
The estimate comes from converting megabits per second into decimal gigabytes: 1 byte is 8 bits and 1 GB is 1,000 MB. It estimates encoded stream data at the stated average bitrate, not total phone usage or an exact amount your carrier will bill.
Formula: estimated decimal GB = bitrate in Mbps × hours × 0.45.
- At 4 Mbps for one hour: about 1.8 GB.
- At 6 Mbps for two hours: about 5.4 GB.
- At 10 Mbps for two hours: about 9 GB.
These are planning calculations, not measured data-use results for Larix Broadcaster.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Examples using YouTube’s H.264 bitrate recommendations
YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends different bitrates according to resolution, frame rate, and codec. The examples below use its H.264 recommended bitrate column; the data estimates are calculated with the formula above, not published usage measurements from YouTube or Softvelum. YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance includes additional options.
| YouTube H.264 setting | Recommended bitrate | Estimated data per hour |
|---|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | About 1.8 GB |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | About 2.7 GB |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | About 4.5 GB |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps | About 5.4 GB |
For a two-hour broadcast at the same average bitrate, double the hourly figure. Actual use can vary if the bitrate changes during the stream.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Why your actual mobile data use can differ
Bitrate and runtime
The configured bitrate is the main planning input, and longer streams send more data. Softvelum, the Larix publisher, explains that the encoder generally targets the bitrate selected in the app—or its default if one is used—and Larix publishes the stream at that target. See the Larix Broadcaster FAQ.
Resolution, frame rate, and codec
Higher-quality settings may call for higher bitrates, but resolution alone does not determine data use: frame rate and codec matter too. Use the bitrate that actually applies to your YouTube encoder configuration rather than assuming every 1080p stream uses the same amount.

Adaptive bitrate and connection conditions
Larix offers adaptive bitrate for poor network conditions, so the stream rate can vary rather than remain at one fixed target. Softvelum does not give a universal percentage by which adaptive bitrate reduces data use. Treat it as a way to adjust to connection conditions, not as a guaranteed data-saving setting.
Overhead and carrier accounting
Protocol overhead, retransmissions, changing network conditions, and a carrier’s accounting method can make total phone or plan usage differ from the encoded-stream estimate. The cited guidance does not establish a universal overhead percentage, so do not treat the formula as an exact bill prediction.

How to estimate your own Larix stream
- Check the outgoing settings. In Larix, check the configured video bitrate and the resolution and frame rate you plan to send. Confirm the bitrate and codec you intend to use for the YouTube stream.
- Choose the bitrate in Mbps. If you use adaptive bitrate, remember the actual rate may change during the broadcast.
- Multiply bitrate × hours × 0.45. The result is an approximate number of decimal GB for the encoded stream.
- Leave a margin. Reserve more data than the estimate to account for overhead and variation; the sources do not establish a fixed margin that applies to every connection or carrier.
- Test with representative content. YouTube advises testing under representative conditions, checking upload speed, and monitoring stream health during the broadcast. Its encoder settings guidance covers stream setup and health considerations.
- Compare your data counter. If your plan limit makes precision important, record the phone or carrier data counter before and after a representative test. This reflects that device and carrier’s accounting more directly than a bitrate calculation, though it may still vary from one broadcast to another.
Keep a YouTube stream running without using your phone’s connection
If the real goal is to keep prerecorded content live on YouTube for hours or around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative rather than a Larix mobile broadcast: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a phone, computer, OBS, or home connection staying on. Each slot streams uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos, not live camera broadcasting, and streams to YouTube only. Learn more at StreamNeo.
For the monthly option, the price is $9.99 per month. Start the free day at StreamNeo registration.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much data does a two-hour 1080p livestream use?
It depends on the bitrate. At 10 Mbps, the estimate is about 9 decimal GB for two hours; at 12 Mbps, about 10.8 GB. These are encoded-stream calculations, not carrier-account totals.
Does Larix Broadcaster use the same data per hour every time?
No. The bitrate and runtime are the main inputs, and adaptive bitrate or connection conditions can change the rate during a broadcast.
Can adaptive bitrate guarantee a specific reduction in mobile data?
No universal saving percentage is established in the Larix guidance. The rate may vary with conditions, so test and monitor your own setup.
