Larix Broadcaster for Android is documented for live capture and RTMP streaming, not for selecting a prerecorded video file as a built-in source. To stream a video already on your phone, the documented Larix workaround is to play it on-screen and use the separate Larix Screencaster app to capture the screen. Audio may not be captured: on Android 10 or later, the playback app must support external recording. Check YouTube’s incoming preview for both picture and sound before going live.
Which Larix app should you use?

This distinction matters: Broadcaster’s documented workflow is not the same as sending a local file directly to YouTube. The screen-capture route is a workaround, and behavior can vary by handset, Android build, player, and file. Softvelum also describes USB OTG UVC devices as an experimental external video/audio input for Broadcaster; that is not documentation of a local-file source. Softvelum’s Larix documentation.
Before you start: verify YouTube Live access and the video
- Enable live streaming on your YouTube account. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live and create a stream or select the scheduled stream you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.
- Have the video ready to play. Open it in the app you plan to use, check that it plays correctly, and decide whether it should be portrait or landscape. Use full-screen playback and prevent interruptions such as notifications or other screen activity.
- Check the audio route before relying on it. Softvelum says Android 9 and earlier do not let apps capture audio from other apps. On Android 10 or later, media-audio capture is available only for apps that support external recording. - Install the appropriate app and check its current availability. Screencaster is separate from Broadcaster. Store listings and features can change; the Google Play listing checked on Aug. 11, 2026 described Larix as an SRT/RTMP/NDI/WebRTC WHIP encoder and listed YouTube Live among supported destinations. Its listing described Larix Premium as removing the watermark and time limit and enabling additional features; check the current store listing for availability and terms. Google Play listing.
Set up the YouTube stream and copy its credentials
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live. Create a new stream or select the scheduled stream you will use.
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream’s current Server URL and Stream key. YouTube’s encoder instructions require both values in the streaming software. Treat the key like a password: do not share it, and reset it if it is exposed. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.
- Keep Live Control Room open so you can check the incoming preview after you start sending from Larix.
Configure Larix and capture the playback
- Open Larix Screencaster and set up its streaming connection using the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Larix’s connection reference describes the connection as a server/application URL plus a stream name or key. It gives
rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2as a YouTube example, with the combined values entered in Larix’s Connection URL field. Use the current values shown for your stream in YouTube Studio if they differ from that example. Larix connection setup reference. - Start screen capture in Screencaster and grant any Android screen-capture or audio-capture prompts that appear. Android’s prompts and app controls can vary by version.
- Switch to the video player, open the file, and begin playback. Confirm the image fills the screen as intended and the device stays in the chosen orientation. If audio is important, confirm that the player permits external recording and that playback audio is enabled.
- Return to Live Control Room and wait for YouTube’s incoming preview. Check that the video is visible, correctly oriented, and playing steadily; listen for audio. Do not make the broadcast public until the preview confirms the actual result. For a scheduled stream, YouTube instructs encoder users to wait for the preview and then click Go live. - When finished, stop sending from Screencaster and use End Stream in Live Control Room as appropriate. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.
Copyright, permissions, and YouTube rules
A video playing on your own screen is still being broadcast to YouTube. Only stream material you have the rights or permission to use, including music, game footage, and any other third-party audio or video. Screen capture does not bypass copyright restrictions or make protected playback capturable. Check the actual YouTube preview and do not proceed with content you are not authorized to broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers the streaming workflow; the sources cited here do not establish a separate rule that makes prerecorded content automatically eligible or ineligible.
Troubleshooting
