The Nintendo Switch OLED comes with 64 GB of internal storage. Some of that capacity is reserved for the system, so the full 64 GB is not available for games and other personal data. You can add a separately sold compatible microSD card for downloadable software and captures, but game save data stays in the console’s System Memory.
What the 64 GB includes
Nintendo lists the OLED model’s built-in capacity as 64 GB and notes that a portion is reserved for system use. Nintendo does not specify the exact amount left for user data, so there is no official usable-space figure to apply to every console.

What a microSD card can—and cannot—store
The Switch OLED supports separately sold microSDXC cards up to 2 TB. A card can store downloadable software, software updates, downloadable content, and captures. It cannot store game save data: save data remains in System Memory and cannot be saved or copied to the card. Nintendo recommends UHS-I cards and gives transfer-speed guidance of 60–95 MB/s; within that range, it says higher transfer speed offers a better gameplay experience. See Nintendo’s Switch FAQ and Nintendo’s microSD card guidance.
Do you need a microSD card?
That depends on the games you plan to play and how much space remains on your console. Game storage requirements vary, so check the physical game packaging or its Nintendo eShop listing before buying. A compatible microSDXC card is an option if your library needs more room; there is no single card size that every OLED owner needs.
