Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Plan storage from the recording’s average total bitrate and how long you need to keep it—not from resolution alone. A continuous recording uses roughly 10.8 decimal GB per day for every 1 Mbps of total bitrate, including audio, before practical headroom. For example, 6 Mbps video plus 160 Kbps audio is about 66 GB per day, 2.0 TB for 30 days, or 24 TB for a year.
Estimate storage from bitrate and retention
Use this decimal-unit estimate:
GB ≈ total bitrate (Mbps) × recording hours × 0.45
For continuous recording, multiply the total bitrate by 10.8 to estimate GB per day. The formula estimates media payload, not a guaranteed drive size. Allow extra capacity for container and filesystem overhead, bitrate variation, and operating headroom.
Include audio in the total. If you save multiple renditions, separate camera feeds, or another copy for backup, count each one as additional storage.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Worked example: 6 Mbps video plus 160 Kbps audio
160 Kbps is 0.16 Mbps, so the total is 6.16 Mbps. Applying the formula gives approximately:
- 24 hours: 66 GB.
- 30 days: 2.0 TB.
- 365 days: 24 TB.
These are decimal estimates derived from bitrate and duration, not measured results or an education-sector benchmark. The capacity you need depends on the actual recorded bitrate, retention period, extra streams or copies, and headroom.

Choose a realistic bitrate for your recordings
Start with the setting your recording system actually uses. A platform’s live-ingest guidance can help with planning, but a local recording may use a different bitrate or codec. Resolution alone does not determine file size.
Use platform guidance as a reference, not a universal recording limit
YouTube Help’s H.264 live encoder guidance lists 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 12 Mbps for 1080p60. It advises that representative tests include audio and movement similar to the intended stream. See YouTube’s live encoder settings (current page accessed 2026-10-03).

Google Cloud’s Live Stream API best-practices table lists 8 Mbps H.264 or 7.2 Mbps H.265 for 720p25/30, and 20 Mbps H.264 or 15 Mbps H.265 for 1080p50/60. These are recommendations for that service, not general recorder settings. Google Cloud separately caps HD output at 15 Mbps; its output limits are service-specific. See Google Cloud’s Live Stream API best practices and its quotas and limits (current pages accessed 2026-10-03).
Check that lessons remain legible
Lower bitrates use less storage but can reduce image quality. For education recordings, inspect slides, small text, handwriting, demonstrations, and motion at the chosen setting. If possible, record a representative lesson and calculate from the resulting file size or measured average bitrate instead of inferring storage needs from resolution.

Size a drive or cloud archive in six steps
- Choose retention: decide how many days or months the recordings must remain available.
- Find the actual average total bitrate: include audio. If it varies, use a representative recording rather than a peak or encoder target.
- Calculate media size: multiply Mbps by recording hours by 0.45 to get approximate decimal GB.
- Count every stored version: multiply for distinct feeds, renditions, or copies kept. A separate backup also needs capacity.
- Add headroom and check usable capacity: drive labels use decimal units, while some operating systems display capacity in binary units, so the displayed number can look lower. Leave room for overhead and normal recording variation.
- For cloud recording, include access needs and costs: account for storage class, retrieval, and any extra rendition or metadata requirements. Amazon IVS documents a recording path that writes media and metadata to an S3 prefix; that establishes a cloud option, not its price or suitability for every school. See Amazon IVS recording to S3.
Choose local storage or a cloud archive
A high-capacity external hard drive or NAS drive is a direct option when recordings will be retained locally. Choose capacity only after estimating bitrate, retention, additional copies, and usable space; “24/7” or “1080p” by itself is not enough to select a size.
Cloud object storage can suit off-site archiving or team access, but the right fit and total cost depend on how long you retain files and how often you retrieve them. Compare usable capacity, retention, local versus off-site protection, sharing needs, read/write workload, warranty, and cloud storage and retrieval costs. No specific drive is tested or endorsed here.

Keep a YouTube education stream live without recording it
Storage for an archive and keeping a channel live are separate needs. If your goal is to loop uploaded videos on YouTube without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. Uploaded video is streamed as made, up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers. This does not replace an independent archive sized for your desired recording retention.
StreamNeo’s first day is free with no card (one free day per account). Plans differ by duration, not features:
- Daily $0.99 per day
- Weekly $2.99 per week
- Monthly $9.99 per month
- 6 months $49.99 for 6 months
- Yearly $89.99 a year
Billing can be for a day, week, month, 6 months, or year, and can be cancelled any time. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.
For a YouTube stream that should keep running, upload your video, add your stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; any quality up to 4K 60fps is included at one price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream; the first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
