First check what kind of playlist you added to OBS. A list of local files needs OBS’s VLC Video source and its Loop Playlist option; a YouTube playlist in a Browser Source depends on the YouTube embed/player setup instead. Those are different playback systems, so the right fix depends on the source and any error shown.
Identify the source that stops
In OBS, select the source that plays the video and check its type in the Sources panel. A Media Source is for one local file. A VLC Video source can play multiple local files as a playlist. A Browser Source can load a YouTube video or playlist embed. Use the matching section below rather than changing settings for a different source type.
- Local file: Media Source or VLC Video.
- YouTube playlist: Browser Source with a YouTube embed/player URL.
- Error 153: Follow the error-specific branch only if OBS displays that error.
Fix a local playlist in OBS
For one local video that should repeat
OBS’s Media Source plays a single local file. Open that source’s properties and enable Loop to replay the same file when it finishes. This repeats one video; it does not advance through a list of different files.
For several local videos that should play in sequence
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video source to be available; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene and open its properties.
- Add the local media files to the source’s playlist in the order you want them played.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback restarts after the final file.
OBS documents the VLC Video source and its playlist controls in its Media Sources documentation. A Media Source’s Loop option and VLC Video’s Loop Playlist option do different jobs: choose based on whether you need one file repeated or multiple files played in sequence.

Fix a YouTube playlist in a Browser Source
If the videos are hosted by YouTube, make sure the Browser Source is loading a playlist embed/player rather than only the URL for the first video. If the player receives only one video ID, it has no playlist to advance through. YouTube’s official instructions cover embedding both videos and playlists; for autoplay, YouTube says to add autoplay=1 to the embedded video code.
- Check the Browser Source URL and verify that it represents the playlist, not just its first video.
- Check the embed/player setup against YouTube’s current instructions for embedding videos and playlists.
- If you need playback to start automatically, check that the embed code includes YouTube’s documented autoplay parameter,
autoplay=1. - Test the playlist in the Browser Source and observe whether the first video ends normally, the next video begins, or the player reports an error.
Autoplay and playlist continuation are separate questions: autoplay controls whether playback starts automatically. The YouTube instructions establish how to embed playlists and configure autoplay, but do not establish that autoplay=1 by itself fixes every case where a playlist fails to advance inside OBS.

If OBS shows Error 153
Use this branch only when the Browser Source actually displays Error 153. In an OBS forum discussion dated October 30, 2025, OBS forum administrator R1CH wrote, “You cannot use YouTube embeds as a top level document.” A forum participant also described an HTML iframe wrapper as a workaround. This is community guidance, not an official, complete compatibility specification; an iframe wrapper may not solve every embed issue.
Confirm that the error is still present, then consult current OBS and YouTube compatibility guidance before changing the Browser Source document setup. Do not assume Error 153 is the cause if the player simply reaches the end of the first video without showing it. The discussion is available in the OBS forum Error 153 thread.

Optional community script for playlist advancement
An OBS community resource describes a Lua script that generates a Browser Source URL using a first video and following YouTube video IDs, with autoplay and loop options. It is a third-party community option, not an official OBS fix. Consider it only after checking the playlist URL and embed setup, and review the resource and its requirements before using it: YouTube playlist Lua script resource.
What to check when it still stops

- Source type in OBS: Media Source, VLC Video, or Browser Source.
- OBS version and operating system.
- Whether the first video ends, freezes, or stops before its end.
- The playlist or embed URL format, with private tokens removed.
- Any visible error text or code.
If the first YouTube video finishes without an error and nothing follows, first verify that the Browser Source receives the playlist rather than only the first video’s URL. If it is a local file, verify that the source type and loop option match your goal. If the interface or error changes, check the current OBS and YouTube documentation because browser and embed compatibility can change.
