Plan for 85 GB of free space to install Counter-Strike 2. That is the available-space requirement Valve lists for both Windows and SteamOS + Linux. Download size and installed depot size are different measurements, so neither should be confused with Valve’s planning figure.
How much free space should you have?
Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 Steam listing specifies 85 GB of available space for Windows and for SteamOS + Linux. If you are checking whether your drive has enough room, use that official requirement rather than a download-size figure.
Why do other CS2 size figures differ?
“Available space,” “download size,” and “size on disk” describe different things. Valve’s figure is the space requirement shown on the store listing. SteamDB tracks depot data, which can vary by configuration and build; its numbers are not a guarantee of the size of every player’s local game folder.

The depot figures come from SteamDB’s Counter-Strike 2 depots page. They are reported in GiB, while Valve’s requirement is stated in GB, and the values refer to different measures. SteamDB’s page identifies a public-branch build from 5 October 2026; depot contents can change as the game is updated.

How to check the space CS2 uses on your computer
The exact installed size on a particular PC is best checked on that computer, because local installation and selected content can differ from depot totals. In Steam, open Library, right-click Counter-Strike 2, choose Properties, then open Installed Files to view the installed size and manage the game’s files.
