Storage requirements by platform
The clearest published figures come from two different points in the game’s release history. HoYoverse’s Version 1.0 pre-download notice in July 2024 gave initial requirements for PC, mobile, and PS5. Its June 2026 Steam launch announcement gave a later PC requirement. Read each figure with its date and meaning: a listed available-space requirement, a storage requirement, and an extra workspace requirement are not necessarily the same thing.

These values are useful as dated planning references, not as a reliable statement of the exact space the current client occupies. Game files and requirements can change as versions arrive, and the figures above were published in different contexts. In particular, the later Steam figure should not be treated as a new measurement of every PC installation method, or used to infer current mobile or console requirements.
The PC numbers illustrate why dates and labels matter. The July 2024 notice separated the storage requirement from additional decompression room; the June 2026 Steam announcement listed a 75 GB PC storage requirement. They are not two parts of one calculation, and the 75 GB figure does not update the mobile or console figures. There is no current full-install total in these notices for Xbox, and the launch-era mobile and PS5 amounts should not be presented as current guarantees.

Why the PC figure includes extra decompression space
PC players should distinguish the game’s stated storage requirement from the additional room HoYoverse specified for decompression during the Version 1.0 installation process. Decompression is the process of unpacking downloaded data into usable game files. The additional space is therefore working room associated with installing, not a second game size to add permanently to the installed footprint.
For that launch-era PC notice, the two amounts add up to 115 GB of space needed during the stated process: 57 GB for storage and 58 GB additional for decompression. That arithmetic describes the notice’s PC requirement in July 2024. It does not establish that every current PC installer needs exactly that amount, nor that the finished game occupies 115 GB. The June 2026 Steam announcement lists a separate 75 GB PC storage requirement and does not make it directly comparable to the earlier pair of figures.
If you are installing on PC, compare the current requirement shown by the launcher or store with the free space on the drive you plan to use. For an installer that calls for separate temporary or decompression room, check whether that room is needed on the same drive or elsewhere before starting; the cited launch notice does not specify a particular drive layout. Avoid treating a download’s file size as proof that the installation will fit, because downloaded packages may need room to unpack.

HoYoverse’s launch-era PC notice explicitly gave both a storage amount and extra decompression space, so PC users should pay attention to both figures whenever a current installer presents them. Do not assume the temporary room will be freed in a particular way or at a particular time unless the installer says so.
How much space does a Zenless Zone Zero update need?
An update’s pre-download package is not the full installed game. HoYoverse’s Version 2.6 pre-download notice, published February 4, 2026, gave these approximate package sizes:

Those numbers describe that particular update, not the total space needed to install the game. They are also approximate: the notice says installed voice packs affect the space required for pre-download. Other updates may have different package sizes, so the Version 2.6 figures should not be used as a standing allowance for every patch.
Leave enough free space for the client’s current update instructions rather than assuming that the package download is the only space the update process will need. HoYoverse explicitly advises players to ensure sufficient device space. The Version 2.6 notice gives different pre-download methods by platform: PC players use the HoYoPlay launcher’s pre-download control, mobile players use the in-game resource pre-download, and console players follow the console procedure. Check the current notice or client for the applicable steps and space requirement before initiating a large download.

For example, Version 2.6’s 20 GB PS5/PS5 Pro package and 23 GB Xbox Series X|S package are update figures only. They do not mean the complete game takes 20 GB or 23 GB. Likewise, the 8 GB PC and 5 GB mobile packages cannot be added to an old full-game figure to calculate a current total: those amounts refer to a particular update, and the notices do not provide a matching current installed-size measurement.
Voice packs are another reason two players on the same platform may see different pre-download space requirements. HoYoverse says installed voice packs affect the needed space, but the notice does not give a fixed amount for each pack. If the client reports a requirement that differs from the approximate package size in the notice, follow the figure shown for your own installation rather than assuming the notice’s headline number is an exact cap.
What is known about Xbox storage?
The published Version 2.6 notice provides an Xbox Series X|S update package figure, but that is not a full-install total. The available figures do not establish a current Xbox installation size. Do not use the update package as a substitute for the game’s total installed footprint, and do not infer the Xbox requirement from PC, mobile, or PlayStation values.

For Xbox, use the requirement displayed by the current game listing or console installation flow as your practical reference. The official Version 3.2 update announcement dated September 9, 2026 describes current update procedures across PC, Android, iOS, PS5, and Xbox, but does not publish current full-install storage totals. That means the update guidance is useful for how to prepare a patch, while it does not resolve the full-size question.
In particular, the 23 GB Version 2.6 package is not a safe estimate of the full space Xbox players should reserve for the game. It only describes that version’s pre-download package. The same caution applies on any platform: a patch-size notice answers how large a specific update package is expected to be, not how much room the complete game occupies after installation.
How to plan space on a phone or console
On mobile, the launch notice’s figures are amounts of available device space, not a current guarantee of how much the latest client occupies. A phone can also have less usable capacity than its advertised storage after the operating system, other apps, photos, and downloads take their share. Check the free-space figure on the device itself, then compare it with the current requirement shown by the game’s store listing or in-client download screen.
The iOS and Android values should not be swapped or treated as one universal mobile requirement: the July 2024 notice listed 26 GB available for iOS and 20 GB available for Android. Both are launch-era figures. They are helpful for understanding the initial published planning guidance, but they do not establish the free-space requirement of the latest mobile client in October 2026.
On PS5, the launch-era available-space figure is likewise a dated reference. The later PS5/PS5 Pro pre-download package figure is specific to Version 2.6 and should not be mistaken for a full installation requirement. On any platform, a device reporting enough free space for a package does not necessarily prove that all installation or update steps will complete: follow the client’s current prompt if it requests more room.

Storage configurations vary between individual devices and consoles, so compare the actual free space shown on the device with the current requirement for the task you are about to perform. The official figures do not establish a universal reserve amount beyond the named requirements, and no single fixed buffer is appropriate to infer from the update package sizes. If you are close to the displayed minimum, make room according to the device’s own storage tools before starting rather than relying on an older published number.
A practical pre-install or pre-update check is:
- Open the game’s current store listing, launcher, or in-game resource screen and note the space requirement it displays.
- Check the free space reported by the device or by the drive selected for installation.
- For PC, distinguish the stated game storage from any separate decompression or temporary-space requirement.
- For a pre-download, use the package size for the specific version and platform, and account for installed voice packs where applicable.
- If the client says there is not enough room, free space on the relevant device or drive and retry using the client’s instructions.
This approach is more reliable than using one old number as a permanent target. It also avoids a common planning mistake: comparing an update package with a full-game requirement as though both measured the same thing.
Does Zenless Zone Zero require an SSD on PC?
HoYoverse’s official Version 1.0 notice recommends installing the PC game on an SSD “to ensure the best gaming experience.” The wording is a recommendation, not a statement that an SSD is mandatory. The notice does not identify a required SSD capacity, external-drive configuration, or interface. If you are choosing a drive, verify that your PC and the game’s current installer support the drive and connection you intend to use; the recommendation alone does not establish compatibility or a minimum specification.

Use the figure that matches both your platform and the task at hand. For an initial installation, look for a current full-game requirement in the relevant store or client. For an update, use that version’s pre-download instructions and allow for the possibility that its working-space needs differ from the package download. For a PC install, check separately for any decompression workspace. Do not combine figures from separate notices unless they describe compatible parts of the same installation process.

The latest full-install totals established by the cited official notices are incomplete across platforms. The dated launch requirements are available for mobile and PS5, while the later Steam announcement supplies a PC storage figure. The Version 2.6 notice supplies update package sizes for all listed platforms, including Xbox, and the September 2026 Version 3.2 announcement supplies update procedures rather than full-install totals. For an exact current answer on a particular device, the current store or client requirement is the deciding reference.
