One player hosts the campaign and invites up to three others. The setup and save rules below reflect the game’s Early Access state and may change.
How many players can play Slay the Spire 2 co-op?
Up to four players can team up online. Mega Crit Games described the mode in its March 5, 2026 launch announcement: “up to 4 players can now team up to face the Spire’s challenges together in an all-new co-op mode.” The Steam store listing also identifies online co-op and multiplayer-specific cards and team synergies.
How do you host or join a co-op run?
PC Gamer’s March 25, 2026 walkthrough reports this setup. The menu labels and steps may change as Early Access develops.
- Host: Choose a profile with the character you want to play unlocked, open Multiplayer, then select Host.
- Joiners: Open Multiplayer and select Join. The host must already be Steam friends with each player joining.
- Choose characters: Each player picks a character. PC Gamer reports that more than one player can choose the same character.
- Start together: Coordinate with the group before beginning the campaign; PC Gamer reports that players cannot be added after the run starts.
These menu instructions and the campaign details below come from PC Gamer’s guide, not an official Mega Crit setup page.

Does Slay the Spire 2 have matchmaking or local co-op?
No matchmaking is available. Mega Crit’s official FAQ says: “Yes, StS2 has an online co-op multiplayer mode. There will be no matchmaking system–Steam friends only!” The mode is described as online co-op, not local co-op. The FAQ lists the Early Access version on Steam for PC, macOS and Linux; the consulted sources do not establish cross-play with other storefronts or future console releases.
How do the co-op campaign and save work?
PC Gamer’s March 25, 2026 guide reports that the host’s profile owns the campaign save. It also says each player has three profiles, with each profile able to host one campaign, and that the full group must be present both to start and continue the run. Treat these as reported Early Access rules: the official sources cited here do not confirm the save details, and updates may change them.

What changes in multiplayer?
Mega Crit and Steam describe multiplayer-specific cards and team synergies, with players able to help one another. That confirms co-op has design elements for coordinated play, but does not by itself establish detailed combat sequencing, shared inventory, revival rules or how difficulty scales. The official FAQ and Steam listing identify the game as Early Access, so features and balance may evolve.
