Multistreaming can help your YouTube audience grow by putting the same live broadcast on other platforms where potential viewers already watch. It expands distribution; it does not guarantee that those viewers will find you on YouTube, subscribe, or trigger YouTube to recommend your channel more often. Treat it as a way to test where your content can reach people, then use YouTube Analytics to see whether YouTube discovery and audience retention improve.
What multistreaming can—and cannot—do for a YouTube channel
YouTube calls broadcasting the same live content to more than one platform at once “simulstreaming.” The main potential benefit is broader availability: viewers can watch on the platform they prefer, including people who may not otherwise encounter your YouTube broadcast. That can create more opportunities for discovery, but does not by itself establish growth on YouTube.
In particular, external-platform views do not automatically become YouTube views or subscribers. The official YouTube guidance describes the distribution opportunity, but provides no multistreaming-specific benchmark or causal estimate for YouTube audience growth. Avoid claims that simulstreaming makes YouTube recommend a channel more often, or guarantees a percentage increase in subscribers.
Choose a multistreaming setup that fits your equipment
YouTube distinguishes between local encoding and cloud encoding or relay services. Your choice affects setup, computer load, destination limits, and how much of the workflow you manage yourself. Check current service features and plan limits before choosing a provider: those details can change.

YouTube describes encoder streaming as useful for gameplay, overlays, and setups using equipment such as cameras, microphones, or preamps. It also says expensive equipment is not required. Use a setup you can operate reliably rather than buying gear on the assumption that it will grow your audience.
Get ready and test before the broadcast
- Confirm YouTube eligibility. Your channel must be verified, live streaming must be enabled, and the channel must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live streaming help.
- Check every destination account. Make sure live streaming is available on each platform you plan to use, and locate the correct stream credentials for each destination. Do not reuse or publicly expose stream keys; treat them like passwords and reset them if they are disclosed.
- Choose the encoder workflow. Confirm the specific encoder or relay supports your intended destinations and that your computer or service can handle the broadcast. YouTube’s live streaming guide covers mobile, webcam, and encoder paths.
- Test upload capacity and the complete signal path. Check that your internet upload speed is sufficient for the stream and that the encoder is configured for your intended output. Start a test broadcast before an important event; inspect YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and check audio and video quality.
- Verify the viewer experience. Check that the stream is accessible from your channel or watch page and on a mobile device. Review the recording or archive for integrity, and make sure audio remains clear and video stays stable throughout the test.
Measure whether multistreaming is helping YouTube growth
Separate three questions: are more people encountering the YouTube stream, are they choosing to watch it, and are they staying? YouTube’s livestream content analytics guidance explains the relevant measures:

- Impressions: how often the thumbnail was shown on YouTube. Impressions do not include displays on external sites or apps.
- Click-through rate: how frequently viewers watched after seeing the thumbnail. Read it alongside impressions and views rather than as a standalone verdict.
- Views and average view duration: how many views the stream received and the average minutes watched per view.
- Traffic sources: where viewers found the stream, such as YouTube search, suggested videos, playlists, or external sources. Search-term information can help show what people were looking for.
- Live and audience measures: concurrent viewers, watch time, retention, devices, and new subscribers can help describe how the audience behaved. Analytics and Live Control Room figures or availability may differ.
Compare similar streams rather than comparing a livestream with a fundamentally different format. For a useful comparison, keep the topic, format, duration, schedule, title and thumbnail approach, and promotion as similar as practical. Review comparable date ranges and stream types; then look at YouTube impressions, traffic sources, views, average view duration, concurrent viewers, and new subscribers together. This is a practical comparison, not a controlled causal test: changes may have several explanations, so do not attribute every difference to multistreaming.
YouTube recommends examining high-performing livestream patterns and when viewers find or watch content. Use those observations to decide whether to repeat a format, adjust the schedule, or change how you promote a stream. No official multistreaming-specific growth percentage is established by the available YouTube guidance.

Use YouTube Live Redirect as a separate follow-on tactic
Live Redirect is not multistreaming. It sends viewers from an eligible YouTube livestream to a Premiere or another live stream after the broadcast ends. It can help maintain viewing continuity or support a collaboration, but it does not distribute the same live broadcast across platforms.
According to YouTube’s Live Redirect help page, the sending channel needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. If the destination is another channel, that channel must permit redirects.
