An Exhibit 10 contract and a Two-Way contract are different routes into an NBA organization, not guarantees of a standard NBA roster spot. Exhibit 10 is an attachment to a one-season contract that can create a path to the team’s G League affiliate or give the team a chance to convert the player to a Two-Way deal before the regular season. A Two-Way contract directly covers service with the NBA team and its affiliate, under season-specific limits. A team can later convert a Two-Way player to a standard NBA contract.
What is an Exhibit 10 contract?
Exhibit 10 is an attachment to a one-season NBA contract, not a separate roster category equivalent to a Two-Way deal. It can provide a conditional bonus if the team waives the player and he then signs with its G League affiliate and serves there for 60 consecutive days. The attachment may also give the NBA team the right to convert the contract to a Two-Way deal before the first day of the regular season. These terms are described in the NBA’s CBA 101 explanation of Exhibit 10.
The bonus depends on the specified waiver and affiliate-service conditions; signing an Exhibit 10 contract alone does not earn it or secure a place on the NBA roster. The NBA’s 2024-25 explanation listed a bonus range of $5,000 to $77,500 for that season, with the maximum linked to the salary cap. Those are historical figures, not current 2026-27 amounts.
What is a Two-Way contract?
A Two-Way contract is a direct contract with an NBA team that allows the player to serve both that team and its G League affiliate, with most of the season typically spent in the G League. It has defined NBA Active List limits and eligibility rules that depend on the season. The NBA G League’s detailed rules for 2025-26 allowed teams up to three Two-Way players in addition to as many as 15 players on Standard NBA contracts; Two-Way contracts could run for one or two seasons.

For 2025-26, the G League set a 50-game maximum for a Two-Way player’s NBA Active List appearances, with a prorated limit for midseason signings. It also specified a team-wide aggregate limit of 90 Under-Fifteen Game appearances for Two-Way players. The stated annual Two-Way salary for that season was $636,435—half the applicable NBA minimum for a player with zero years of service—with midseason deals prorated. These figures and restrictions come from the G League’s 2025-26 Two-Way contract rules and should not be carried forward as 2026-27 terms.
The same 2025-26 rules set service-based eligibility limits, including a narrow exception for a player with four years of service who met the stated roster and no-games condition. A player’s eligibility therefore cannot be determined from the contract label alone; the applicable season’s complete rules matter.

How the two routes differ
| Question | Exhibit 10 | Two-Way |
|---|---|---|
| What is it? | An attachment to a one-season NBA contract. | A direct NBA-team contract covering NBA and G League service. |
| Where does the player serve? | He may attend camp under the NBA contract; after a qualifying waiver, he can sign with the team’s G League affiliate and complete the required service period for a possible bonus. | He serves both the NBA team and its affiliate, primarily with the G League team. |
| How can NBA access change? | The attachment may give the team a right to convert the deal to a Two-Way contract before the regular season begins. | NBA Active List appearances are subject to that season’s limits. |
| What is the next roster step? | The team can make a roster decision, including a possible Two-Way conversion; the attachment does not promise either. | The team may convert the player to a Standard NBA Contract. |
| What determines additional pay? | A conditional Exhibit 10 bonus requires the qualifying waiver, affiliate signing and service. | Salary and service limits are set by the applicable season’s rules. |
The distinction is visible in actual transactions, though transactions do not establish promotion odds. In October 2025, Milwaukee announced a Two-Way deal for Alex Antetokounmpo alongside Exhibit 10 contracts for Johnny Davis and Jeremiah Tilmon. New Orleans announced that it converted Bryce McGowens from a Two-Way contract to a standard deal on February 20, 2026. The team announcements are collected in this NBA roster transaction source.
Can a Two-Way contract become a standard NBA contract?
Yes. The NBA team has the exclusive right to negotiate with and sign its Two-Way player to a Standard NBA Contract, according to the NBA’s CBA 101 explanation of Two-Way contracts. Conversion is a team decision, not an automatic reward for playing well or using the available NBA service.

Postseason eligibility has an additional deadline: the player must be signed or converted to a Standard NBA Contract before the start of the team’s final regular-season game to be eligible for its postseason roster. A Two-Way player may travel and practice with the NBA team during the postseason, but that by itself does not make him eligible to play on the postseason roster.

Contract details can change with the season, so keep the rule year attached to every salary, roster cap and service limit. The detailed G League rules cited here cover 2025-26.
