You can search for games and tracks, use Nintendo-curated playlists, make your own playlists, and get recommendations shaped by your play history. You do not need a Nintendo Switch console, but the browser player and app do not have identical features.
What you need to use Nintendo Music
Nintendo Music requires a Nintendo Account and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership; Nintendo says the app is included at no additional cost to members. A Nintendo Switch console is not required. You can listen on a compatible smart device or, where supported, through a computer browser. Availability and compatible-device requirements vary by region, and internet access is required for streaming. Data charges may apply. Check Nintendo’s current service page for regional access details.
How to find a game soundtrack or song
Browse the available soundtrack groupings or search the library for a game, song, series or character. You can also explore themed collections and recommendations instead of starting with a specific track. The library is an expanding collection, so what is available can change as Nintendo adds soundtracks.
Nintendo’s launch announcement described screenshot-based browsing, but its current service page emphasizes browsing and recommendations. Because features can change between app versions, use the search and browse options shown in your installed version rather than assuming every launch-era feature remains available. Nintendo’s October 31, 2024 launch announcement provides the original feature description.

- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
As a dated snapshot, Nintendo of Canada’s service page describes its browser library as containing over 250 hours of music across more than 130 titles, as of October 5, 2026. Nintendo says the catalog grows, so those figures are not a fixed total.
What playlist options are available?
Nintendo Music has three distinct ways to organize or discover music:
Rank #2
- 6.2” LCD screen
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
- Nintendo-curated playlists: Ready-made collections organized around games or themes.
- Your playlists: Collections you create from music available in the service. Nintendo’s official Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics “All tracks” playlist illustrates how a game’s music can be grouped together.
- My Mix and recommendations: Suggested listening informed by your Nintendo Switch Play Activity. My Mix is generated from your play history, not a manually assembled playlist, and Nintendo says it is unavailable in the web browser.
You can create and manage personal playlists in the app. The browser supports general listening and playlist organization, but it does not include every app feature; in particular, My Mix is unavailable there.
App or computer browser: what changes?
| Feature | Smart-device app | Computer browser |
|---|---|---|
| Stream music | Yes | Yes, where supported |
| Download for offline listening | Yes | Not described as available; Nintendo documents offline listening through the app |
| My Mix | Available, based on play history | Unavailable |
| Sleep Timer | Available in the app | Unavailable |
| Use on a phone or tablet | Yes, on compatible devices | No; Nintendo UK says the web player is for computers, not smart devices |
Nintendo says you can stream music or download it in the app for offline listening. Downloads are therefore the option to use when you expect to be without an internet connection; the browser player is a computer-based streaming experience. See Nintendo Music Support for current help and device information.

Useful listening controls and safeguards
Hide possible spoilers
Spoiler prevention can hide soundtracks that might reveal moments from games. This is useful if you are still playing and do not want a soundtrack title or grouping to give something away.
Extend selected tracks
Some tracks can be extended for longer listening. Nintendo of Canada lists 5-, 10-, 15-, 30- or 60-minute options; the feature is track-dependent, so those durations are not available for every song. Nintendo UK describes selected tracks as extendable for up to an hour. See Nintendo UK’s service page for its description.
