You must be at least 13 years old to use Voice Chat on Roblox. Being 13 is not enough by itself: Roblox also requires an age check through Facial Age Estimation or ID verification, availability in your region, and an experience that supports Voice Chat. This guide reflects Roblox’s current requirements as of August 18, 2026.
Roblox Voice Chat minimum age: 13
Roblox Voice Chat is available only to users who are 13 or older and have completed Roblox’s required age check. Voice Chat is not automatically enabled when an account reaches 13, and it is not available in every country or every Roblox experience.

To use Voice Chat, all of these conditions generally need to be met:

- You are at least 13 years old.
- Your account has completed an accepted age check. Roblox names Facial Age Estimation and ID verification as the available routes.
- Voice Chat is available in your region. Roblox does not make the feature available everywhere.
- The experience supports Voice Chat. The individual game or experience must enable the feature.
- You connect to Voice Chat in the experience. It is an opt-in feature, not a default setting.
- Your device microphone works and has permission to be used.
Roblox’s creator documentation also associates Voice Chat with experiences supporting a maximum of 100 players. This is mainly a developer-side requirement, not a setting ordinary players can change.
How to turn on Voice Chat on Roblox
- Complete the age check. Open the relevant account or privacy settings and follow Roblox’s instructions for Facial Age Estimation or ID verification.
- Join a Voice Chat-enabled experience. A missing control may simply mean the current game does not support voice.
- Look for the headphone icon. Roblox may let you connect or disconnect from voice by selecting this icon.
- Check the in-experience settings. Depending on your platform and the experience, the Voice Chat control may appear in the game’s settings instead. On PlayStation, Roblox says the connection control is handled through in-experience settings.
- Allow microphone access. If you can connect but nobody hears you, check Roblox’s microphone permission and your device’s operating-system settings.

What age check does Roblox accept?
Facial Age Estimation
Facial Age Estimation uses a selfie or video of the user’s face to estimate an age group. It may be the most accessible option for someone who does not have a government-issued ID, but it can produce an incorrect age estimate or fail to determine an age group. Availability may also vary by region and account.

Roblox says images and video used for Facial Age Estimation are deleted immediately after processing. That statement applies to the imagery used for the estimation process; it should not be broadened into a claim that Roblox immediately deletes all account or verification information. ID verification
ID verification is an alternative when Facial Age Estimation is unavailable or cannot determine the user’s age accurately. It requires an accepted government-issued identity document, and the available documents and process may vary by country.

Use only the account holder’s own official document. Do not upload a parent’s ID to verify a child’s account. Roblox provides additional information about age corrections and verification in its age-change support article.
Why is the Voice Chat option missing?
Check these possibilities in order:
- The account is under 13. Under-13 accounts cannot legitimately unlock Roblox Voice Chat.
- The age check is incomplete. Turning 13 or changing an account birthday does not replace the required check.
- The age check placed the account below 13. If the estimate is wrong, check whether Roblox offers ID verification or an age-correction process.
- You only verified a phone number. Phone verification is no longer a valid way to obtain Voice Chat under Roblox’s current rules.
- Voice Chat is unavailable in your region. Roblox specifically notes that if the join-voice icon does not appear after Facial Age Estimation or ID verification, regional availability may be the reason.
- The current experience does not support Voice Chat. Test in another experience that advertises or visibly supports voice.
- You are checking the wrong menu. The connection control may appear inside the experience rather than in general account settings.
- The account has a communication or moderation restriction. Roblox may suspend or remove Voice Chat access after violations.
- The feature has not appeared correctly or is temporarily unavailable. Restart Roblox, update the app, sign out and back in, then test again.
- The microphone or permissions are failing. Confirm that the microphone works outside Roblox and that Roblox has permission to use it.
The final troubleshooting suggestions are practical diagnostics, not guarantees that any one cause applies. If the account is age-checked as 13 or older but the control remains absent, contact Roblox Support.
Does every Roblox game have Voice Chat?
No. Voice Chat works only in experiences whose creators support the feature. A player can meet every account requirement and still see no voice option in a game that has not enabled it. The Roblox Creator Hub Voice Chat documentation explains the experience-side requirements.
Can someone under 13 use Voice Chat with parental permission?
Roblox’s current Voice Chat requirement is 13 or older. Parental permission may affect some other communication or account controls, but it should not be treated as a way to unlock Voice Chat for an under-13 account.
Do not enter a false birthday, use another person’s ID, bypass the age check, or pay a third-party service claiming to unlock Voice Chat. These actions can create account, privacy, safety, and moderation risks, and Roblox says users completing ID verification should use their own official document.

What changed in 2026?
On January 7, 2026, Roblox announced a broader age-check system for communication features. The rollout began with chat access in the United States and expanded to other regions where chat was available. The system introduced age-based communication rules and required age checks for communication features.

Old advice about phone verification is outdated
Many older guides say that verifying a phone number unlocks Roblox Voice Chat. That advice no longer applies. Roblox’s current support page explicitly says phone verification is not a valid route for obtaining Voice Chat.
A verified phone number may still be useful for account security or recovery, but it should not be confused with Roblox’s current age-check requirement.

Access does not remove Roblox’s safety rules. Users must follow Roblox’s Terms of Use and Community Standards. Voice Chat can be moderated, restricted, suspended, or removed after violations. Age-based communication rules may also affect who can communicate with whom, even after Voice Chat is enabled.

Is Roblox Voice Chat free?
Yes. Roblox Voice Chat does not require a paid subscription, purchase, VPN, third-party unlock service, or special headset brand. You still need to meet Roblox’s age-check, regional, experience, and device requirements.
Can I use Voice Chat on console?
Voice Chat availability and controls vary by platform. Roblox says PlayStation users connect through in-experience settings. The experience must also support Voice Chat, and the account must meet the same eligibility requirements.
What if Roblox’s age check gets my age wrong?
Check whether your account offers ID verification or an age-correction process. Use your own accepted government-issued ID where required; do not use a parent’s document.
Why did Voice Chat disappear after an update?
Test another Voice Chat-enabled experience, check your region and account status, confirm microphone permissions, restart or update Roblox, and contact Roblox Support if an age-checked 13+ account still has no voice control.
Can I use a parent’s ID to unlock Voice Chat?
No. Roblox says users should use their own official document for ID verification. A parent’s ID is not a legitimate workaround for an under-13 account.
