But installing it is only one part of the job: the game must be supported by RPCS3, the computer needs suitable CPU and graphics support, and the emulator needs the required firmware and game data. A compatibility label is a useful report about a particular game entry, not a guarantee that it will run identically on every PC.
What PS3 emulation does
A PS3 game expects the console’s processor, graphics system, operating environment and supporting services. RPCS3 recreates enough of those interfaces in software to let the game run on a different computer, translating the game’s instructions and requests into work the Linux host can perform.
This is demanding because the emulator has to reproduce console-specific behavior while coordinating the host’s CPU cores and graphics drivers. Games do not all depend on the same behaviors or stress the same parts of the PC, so a machine that runs one title well may struggle with another. The project’s FAQ notes that additional games become supportable as hardware and firmware emulation becomes accurate enough.
Why compatibility varies by game
RPCS3’s FAQ explains that some games are playable while others depend on hardware or firmware behavior that the emulator does not yet reproduce accurately enough. A game can therefore fail even when the emulator itself launches correctly.

#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
The compatibility project tracks entries by Game ID and media, rather than only by the commercial title name. Disc and digital releases of the same game can have separate entries, and regional or revision differences may matter. Find the Game ID for your own copy and compare it with the corresponding entry in the RPCS3 compatibility list.
What the compatibility labels tell you
The project uses categories including Playable, Ingame, Intro, Loadable and Nothing. They describe the status reported for a tested entry; they do not promise the same result across different PCs, graphics drivers or RPCS3 builds. In particular, “Ingame” indicates that a game gets beyond merely loading, not that it can necessarily be completed. If an exact Game ID is unlisted, do not treat the absence of a report as evidence that it works.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
June 2026 compatibility snapshot
The project’s June 2026 statistics row lists the following counts. These are tracked entries, not a count of distinct retail titles that will work for every user. Since May 2024, the statistics exclude entries that are not PS3 games.
| Status | Entries reported |
|---|---|
| Playable | 2,673 |
| Ingame | 824 |
| Intro | 61 |
| Loadable | 1 |
| Nothing | 0 |
| Total tracked entries | 3,559 |

What a Linux PC needs
RPCS3’s FAQ, last edited April 29, 2020, gives an x64 CPU and a graphics card supporting OpenGL 4.3 as an absolute minimum baseline. It warns that some integrated Intel GPUs may not work correctly and recommends a modern Vulkan-compatible graphics card. The FAQ also says requirements can change as development continues, so this older baseline is not current hardware-buying advice. Check the project’s current setup documentation and requirements before choosing hardware.
Compatibility also depends on the graphics API and driver in use, the emulator’s support for the game’s needs, and having the required firmware and game data. The FAQ directs new users to the project’s Quickstart Guide for setup. Its current FAQ describes installing official PS3 firmware through File → Install Firmware; follow the current official guide for the complete procedure rather than treating that menu path as a full setup checklist.

How to check whether your game is a good candidate
- Identify the exact release. Find the Game ID for your disc or digital copy; title name alone may not distinguish the relevant compatibility entry.
- Look up that ID. Use the RPCS3 compatibility list and check the entry and its reported status for the version or media you have.
- Read the report as a guide, not a promise. The status reflects a tested entry, not every combination of Linux distribution, CPU, GPU, driver and emulator build.
- Check current requirements and setup guidance. Consult RPCS3’s official FAQ and Quickstart Guide before installing firmware or making hardware decisions.
Do you need a controller?
No. A gamepad is optional: RPCS3 supports keyboard input and can mix keyboard and gamepad inputs. The FAQ says local multiplayer supports up to seven concurrent controllers, though that does not establish that every game uses seven players. If you prefer a pad, a USB controller for PC is an input option, not a requirement for emulation.
