Does the Knight have an official height?
No official height is stated in the Hollow Knight website or the game manual. The manual describes the protagonist as “An enigmatic wanderer who descends into Hallownest carrying only a broken nail to fend off foes,” but gives no scale or measurement.

The developers commonly refer to the unnamed playable protagonist as “the Knight,” according to the Hollow Knight Wiki character reference. That name does not come with a canonical height.
Is the Knight shorter than Hornet?
Yes. GameSpot’s report of an Edge interview identifies the Knight as the “rather small” protagonist and says Hornet is taller. Hollow Knight: Silksong designer Willian Pellen said, “Hornet being taller changes everything.” Animator Ari Gibson explained that Hornet’s greater height affects her movement and the spaces built for her: “So the caves around her need to accommodate her height.”

Those comments establish a relative difference, not its size in real-world units. They also describe a design consequence: Hornet can move faster, jump higher, and clamber onto ledges, so Silksong’s caves and enemies had to suit her abilities. They do not provide a measurement for either character.
Why screen measurements cannot establish a canon number
A pixel count can tell you how tall a particular pose appears on screen, but it cannot by itself tell you how tall the character is in centimeters. The result changes depending on whether you measure the sprite, a pose, a collision box, or an in-game comparison—and on what real-world scale you assign to Hallownest.

The official site describes Hollow Knight as hand-drawn and animated in a traditional 2D style, but gives no real-world scale for its world. Without an established scale and a defined way to measure the character, converting an image or game object into feet or centimeters is an estimate rather than canon.

What to say when asked how short the Knight is
- Official height: No figure in feet, inches, or centimeters is stated in the official site or manual cited above.
- Relative height: Developer-interview reporting says Hornet is taller than the Knight.
- Exact difference: No numeric height gap is given in that reporting.
