Silent Hill: Townfall makes stealth one way to survive, not a replacement for combat. Players can use the CRTV to locate threats, exploit environmental opportunities and peek around danger, then choose whether to hide, distract, run or fight. The result is a survival-horror loop shaped by managing attention and uncertainty as much as by winning a confrontation.
Townfall released September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Konami identifies Screen Burn Interactive as developer and Annapurna Interactive and KONAMI as co-publishers. It follows Simon Ordell, who washes ashore on St. Amelia, a remote island off Scotland, and is presented entirely from a first-person perspective. Konami’s launch announcement describes it as a full-length game.
Does Silent Hill: Townfall have stealth?
Yes. Writer and director Jon McKellan of Screen Burn Interactive describes stealth as an important survival strategy, supported by the CRTV, environmental opportunities and a peek system. It is not presented as a separate mode or a mandatory solution to every encounter; it is one response among several.
McKellan says players can run, distract, hide or fight. His stated design aim is to let players experiment and decide which approach suits a particular situation, rather than forcing one playstyle. The February developer and gameplay feature outlines those encounter choices.

Can you avoid enemies in Silent Hill: Townfall?
The developers describe avoidance as a deliberate possibility: players can use the CRTV to locate nearby threats, take advantage of the environment and peek before deciding how to proceed. These tools make an encounter a question of whether Simon can avoid, redirect or outmaneuver danger—not only whether he can defeat it.
McKellan also warns that attracting too much attention makes enemies dynamically hunt the player and use their senses to track him. The official description does not specify detection meters, precise sensory rules or guaranteed routes past particular enemies, so stealth is best understood as managing exposure under pressure, not as a known set of predictable thresholds.

What does the CRTV do in Silent Hill: Townfall?
The CRTV is a handheld, analog-inspired audio-visual device that develops the role of the radio familiar from Silent Hill. Screen Burn describes it as serving several purposes: helping locate nearby threats, receiving signals that reveal story material, and assisting with challenges. Its visual signal capabilities also give it a role in stealth.
That makes the CRTV both information equipment and a source of unease. McKellan says the team wanted players to rely on the device to survive while feeling uneasy about relying on it too much. It offers a way to interpret danger, but the developers’ description emphasizes its instability rather than presenting it as a perfect, risk-free detector. A July interview with the developers discusses the device’s design and the range of encounter responses.

- The dodging is tension, the battles are hectic and the story-based puzzles reveal a truth that does not want to remain hidden
Does Townfall favor stealth over combat?
The developers say no single encounter style is meant to be forced. Stealth matters because it gives players alternatives, but the official explanation does not identify it as universally safer, easier or more effective than fighting. The appropriate choice is intended to depend on the situation and the player’s judgment.
That flexibility changes the survival-horror formula without removing its combat risk. A player can assess a threat, try to stay out of its way, draw it elsewhere or confront it. Because attention can provoke pursuit, choosing to engage—or making enough noise or movement to attract notice—has consequences, but the published material does not quantify those consequences.

How does first-person gameplay change Silent Hill?
A first-person view limits how much of the surroundings Simon can see at once, making observation and sound especially important. The developers connect the perspective to the CRTV and to tactile, detailed puzzles; PlayStation’s PS5 feature article says 3D audio helps convey nearby sounds in a game with a restricted field of view.
On PS5, the same feature describes DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers as providing feedback for cues such as approaching footsteps and weapon feel. These are platform-specific forms of feedback, not prerequisites for understanding the stealth design. Together, restricted sightlines and audio-visual tools make gathering information part of the tension: the player must interpret what is nearby before deciding whether to avoid it or fight.

What the official descriptions establish—and what they do not
Konami’s September 2026 launch announcement says the Silent Hill franchise had surpassed 17.8 million units worldwide as of the end of June 2026. That figure includes units shipped, store downloads and subscription services; it is a franchise-wide figure, not Townfall sales. The launch announcement and a Canadian launch notice confirm the game’s release framing and availability on PS5 and PC storefronts.
The available developer and platform descriptions explain intended mechanics and design goals, not how reliably players can evade enemies in practice. They do not establish a best tactic, exact detection logic, or a comparative performance advantage for stealth over combat. The evidence supports a more specific takeaway: Townfall treats survival as a flexible decision about information, exposure and response, with stealth among the available choices.
