A studio merger can change who controls a film library and who decides how its titles are licensed, bundled, or released. It does not, by itself, tell you where a particular movie is streaming: existing contracts, release windows, country, and timing still matter. To find a film, check the specific title in your country on the date you want to watch it.
What a studio merger changes—and what it does not
A merger can place a studio’s library under new corporate control. The new owner may influence future licensing decisions, investment in streaming services, bundles, and theatrical or home-entertainment release plans. But ownership is not the same as the right to show every film immediately on one service.

Existing distribution agreements can remain in effect, and a film may be licensed to an outside streaming or television service. Warner Bros. Discovery’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, describes distribution through both company-owned and third-party television and streaming services, as well as physical and digital home entertainment. The particular terms and availability of an individual film are not established by that filing.
Paramount’s February 27, 2026 acquisition announcement also said the proposed combined studios would continue licensing films and shows on their own and third-party platforms and would remain buyers of third-party content. Paramount Chairman and CEO David Ellison described supporting a “vibrant third-party ecosystem.” That is an announced plan, not a guarantee that any named film will stay on, or move to, a particular service.

What is the status of the Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery deal?
As of October 4, 2026, the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance was still described as pending. The companies announced anticipated closing-date information on September 30, 2026, and WBD’s June 30, 2026 Form 10-Q describes a merger agreement subject to completion. An announcement about an anticipated closing is not confirmation that the deal has closed.
The U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division said it had completed its review and concluded, based on evidence received, that the proposed transaction was not likely to harm competition in subscription video-on-demand, linear television, or studio development, production, or theatrical distribution. DOJ described an eight-month investigation in which it received more than two million documents from over 80 custodians. That is the department’s competition assessment; it does not establish what movies will be available on a service or when.

Will movies move to Paramount+ after the merger?
Not automatically, and the available information does not establish that every Warner Bros. Discovery movie will move to Paramount+. A film’s destination depends on its existing license, territory, release window, and the date the license or window changes. A future corporate owner may make later licensing choices, but an ownership change alone does not confirm a new streaming home.
Paramount estimated in its 2026 announcement that the proposed combined company would have a library of more than 15,000 titles. That is the company’s estimate of the combined library, not a count of movies available on Paramount+ or any other single service.

How the announced theatrical and home-release plans work
Paramount’s February 2026 announcement set out prospective plans for the proposed combined company’s theatrical releases. These are company-announced intentions, not a universal legal rule and not proof that every film will follow the same schedule.
- Theatrical release: Paramount said each film would receive a full theatrical release.
- Paid video-on-demand: The company announced a minimum 45-day global theatrical window before paid video-on-demand.
- Potentially longer theatrical runs: Paramount said it intended to use 60–90 days or longer for its most successful releases.
- Later home and subscription windows: The announced plan described a home-video window before subscription streaming.
- Geographic differences: The company said geographic windowing commitments, including those in France, would continue to apply.
These plans concern the proposed combined company and its future release strategy. They do not determine when a particular movie will become available in a reader’s country; the film’s actual release and licensing arrangements matter.

Why corporate structure does not reveal a streaming catalogue
Media-company plans can change, and a corporate division name is not a live catalogue. In a June 9, 2025 separation announcement, Warner Bros. Discovery proposed placing HBO Max and its film and television libraries within Streaming & Studios, while associating Discovery+ with Global Networks. WBD said HBO Max was then available in 77 markets. That was a dated corporate statement about a planned structure and footprint, not a current count of markets or proof of where a particular movie streams today.
The distinction matters: a company can reorganize its businesses, make plans to combine or separate services, and still have titles subject to different distribution agreements. Treat announced platform combinations and release strategies as plans until they are implemented and confirmed.

How to find where a specific movie is available
- Search the exact title. Check the film’s full title, including a year or edition if similarly named movies appear.
- Set the country. Availability varies by territory; a result for another country does not answer where you can watch it.
- Check the access type. Distinguish a title included with a subscription from a rental or purchase option.
- Confirm on the service. Use a current title-availability lookup if helpful, then verify the result on the service itself. Check the date and any license end date shown.
- Consider its release window. A recent theatrical film may still be in a theatrical or paid home-viewing window rather than subscription streaming.
A studio name, merger announcement, or service brand is not a substitute for this title-and-country check. The cited corporate and government materials do not provide a live movie catalogue or confirm availability for any particular film.
