Supergiant began work on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions of Hades II in 2021, after the original Hades arrived on Switch in 2020. The studio’s published performance targets for the finished game are 120 frames per second at 1080p on Switch 2 in TV Mode and 60 fps at 1080p in Handheld Mode. The original Switch version targets 60 fps at 720p in either mode. Those are Supergiant’s specifications, not independent performance tests.

The interview’s remaining text is behind a membership gate, so its detailed comments about engineering, tools, or porting decisions cannot be verified from the accessible article. Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice listing for Hades II, dated April 8, 2025, confirms the feature but does not provide a transcript in the available material. There is therefore no verified detailed Kasavin quotation to reproduce. The development timeline and performance information below come from Supergiant’s own public statements, rather than attributed interview remarks.
How long did Hades II take, and how large was the team?
Supergiant says it began work on Hades II in earnest at the start of 2021 and spent approximately four and a half years reaching version 1.0. Its current Hades II FAQ says the development team grew to about 25 people. That group included all seven original members of the team behind Bastion; dozens of additional contributors worked across translation, voice acting, visual art, and music.
#1 Best Overall
- Battle beyond the Underworld using dark sorcery to take on the Titan of Time in this bewitching sequel to the award-winning rogue-like dungeon crawler.
The studio also says it has made and improved its own technology and tools from project to project since Bastion. That establishes a long-running in-house approach, but the public statements cited here do not specify which tools or technical changes produced the Switch 2 version’s performance targets.
What performance does Hades II target on Switch 2?
Supergiant’s final published mode specifications differ between TV and handheld play. The figures are targets stated by the publisher, not independently measured results.

- Battle beyond the Underworld to vanquish the Titan of Time as the Princess of the Dead in this bewitching sequel to the original rogue-like dungeon crawler. Hades II lets players explore a bigger, deeper mythic world with the full might of Olympus at their call in a story that reacts to their every setback and accomplishment.
| Console | Mode | Resolution | Frame-rate target |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | TV Mode | 1080p | 120 fps |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Handheld Mode | 1080p | 60 fps |
| Nintendo Switch | TV Mode | 720p | 60 fps |
| Nintendo Switch | Handheld Mode | 720p | 60 fps |
In its April 2, 2025 announcement, Supergiant said both Switch versions were running smoothly at a 60 fps target and noted Switch 2’s larger, higher-definition 1080p display. The later specifications in the studio’s September 12, 2025 version 1.0 announcement give the finished Switch 2 TV Mode a 120 fps target. Neither announcement supplies independent testing of frame-rate stability or a measured comparison of visual quality.
When did the Switch versions launch, and is there a physical edition?
Hades II version 1.0 launched on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 25, 2025. Supergiant says a standard physical game card for both systems followed on November 20, 2025. The publisher announced a North American retail price of $49.99 in September 2025; that is the price announced at the time, not a verified current price.

How do Switch 2 upgrades and cross-saves work?
Supergiant says owners of the original Switch version can download a free Switch 2 upgrade if they have both consoles. Its stated cross-save pairings are limited to particular storefront families:

Hades II is a single-player sequel set in and around the Underworld after the first game. The player controls Melinoë, an immortal witch and sorceress, as she confronts Chronos, the Titan of Time.
