To access The Sims 4 on PC or Mac, sign in to the EA app with your EA Account, search for the game, and download the free Base Game. After installation, select Play to launch it. You do not need to buy a pack or subscribe to EA Play to get the Base Game.

EA says the Base Game has been free to play since October 18, 2022. Its current download guide describes it as free across supported platforms. See EA’s download instructions.
Check your computer’s compatibility
EA’s current minimum requirements list the following for PC and Mac. Requirements can change, so check the live system requirements page before installing, particularly on an older computer.

The EA app on Mac requires macOS Catalina or later. The app and game requirements are separate checks: a Mac must meet the app’s operating-system requirement as well as the game’s requirements.
Choose the right platform and version
EA identifies the EA app, Steam, and Epic Games as PC/Mac download options. The steps above cover the EA app. On PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, or Xbox One, use the console edition rather than the PC/Mac app.

The PC/Mac and console versions are separate: EA says Sims, Lots, and Households do not transfer between them. The console version also does not support custom content or mods. If carrying progress across platforms or using mods matters to you, choose the version accordingly. EA’s console guide explains the console edition’s distinctions.
What is free, and what is optional?
The free download is the Base Game. Expansion, game, and stuff packs are additional content; EA also describes editions with packs for EA Play and EA Play Pro members. Those packs and subscriptions are not required to download or play the Base Game. Installed add-ons can be managed from the EA app library.

Mac access from an older PC disc
The Sims 4 for Mac is digital-only, and PC installation discs do not work on Mac. EA documents an exception for some packaged PC copies: their product code can be redeemed in the EA app to access the Mac version. This is not needed for the free digital download.
