To play an EA game you own on Steam, install and launch it from your Steam library, then link the Steam account to the EA Account you want to use when prompted. Some titles also require the EA app to launch. If you bought the game through the EA app instead, it cannot be transferred to Steam; play it through the EA app.
Choose the access route that matches where you got the game

EA’s guidance distinguishes the purchase platform from the launcher requirement: a Steam purchase can be played on Steam, but some games still need the EA app. Check the individual game’s Steam store page for the notice: “Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA online activation and EA app software installation and background use required.” If that notice appears, the EA app is required for that title. Install and launch a Steam-purchased EA game
- Check your Steam library. Make sure the game is in the library of the Steam account you intend to use. If you want Steam access, the purchase needs to be through Steam; an EA-app purchase cannot be moved there.
- Install or launch the game from Steam. Steam installs the game and indicates when it is ready.
- Link the EA Account when prompted. Sign in to the EA Account you want associated with that Steam account and complete the authorization. EA says the accounts need to be linked only the first time you play an EA game on Steam.
- Check for an EA app requirement. Look for the third-party DRM notice on the game’s Steam store page. If required, install and use the EA app as part of launching the game.
Link or check your Steam account manually
If you need to inspect or complete the connection outside the game, use EA Account settings:
- Sign in to your EA Account.
- Open Connected Accounts.
- Select Steam, continue to Steam sign-in, and authorize the connection.
Use the EA Account you intend to keep associated with the Steam account. EA’s account-linking instructions are at EA Help: Link your console accounts.

Fix a Steam launch error such as link2ea
If Steam shows “Error code: link2ea” or the game will not launch, EA recommends these steps in order:
- Close and relaunch the EA app.
- In the EA app, open the game’s three-dot menu and choose Repair.
- Uninstall and reinstall the EA app.
- Restart your computer.
- Run both Steam and the EA app as administrator, then try launching the game again.

When broader EA app errors appear
Some errors point to authentication or network conditions rather than a Steam-specific problem. For EC: 10000, EA advises checking that your internet connection is stable and that your login details are correct. For EC: 10500, an outage may be involved; EA suggests clearing the app cache or trying again later. For EC: 10005, consult EA’s connection troubleshooting and check whether EA services are experiencing an outage. EA Play access depends on the membership and the current catalog, not simply on owning another EA game on Steam. Check these items:

- Confirm you are signed in to the EA Account used for the membership.
- Make sure the Steam account is linked to that EA Account.
- Check that the membership is active.
- Confirm that the specific game is still in The Play List for your platform and region; catalog titles can change.
