What the DMZ early-access offer actually requires
Activision’s Modern Warfare 4 Editions page identifies DMZ Early Access as a digital-purchase benefit. Its current terms say that a preorder or prepurchase of any digital edition, on any supported platform, qualifies for the early-access window. That means you do not need to find a special “DMZ edition” or buy a separate DMZ access code when the offer is active.

The same page schedules the early-access start for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in Pacific Time. Activision has not established a universal local-clock time in the material available here, so your storefront may display a converted time or update the schedule. Check the live edition page and the listing on your platform rather than relying on a countdown posted elsewhere.

The offer is written around a digital preorder or prepurchase. Activision’s page does not say that a physical preorder qualifies, so treat a disc reservation as unconfirmed until the current terms explicitly include it. A digital purchase should be attached to the same platform account you intend to use for DMZ.

The full game date is different
Activision’s edition terms reference October 23, 2026 for the Modern Warfare 4 release. DMZ Early Access is therefore a period that begins before the wider game release, not a separate permanent free trial.
What you are actually paying for
The qualifying action is the digital game purchase, not a subscription to DMZ itself. The cited Activision terms do not publish one universal price that applies in every country or on every platform. Your store may show a different currency, tax treatment, edition price or preorder policy. Compare the exact edition name and total shown at checkout, and save the receipt or order number.
Do not assume that the cheapest listing on a search engine carries the same entitlement. A legitimate listing should identify Modern Warfare 4, show the publisher and edition details, and deliver an entitlement to your own platform account. Activision names the major platform stores and most retailers as preorder channels, but that does not turn every key marketplace or download site into an approved source. If a seller promises a standalone “DMZ early build” instead of a normal game entitlement, stop and verify it against the official edition terms.

Refund and cancellation rules are set by the platform or retailer. Read those terms before paying, especially if your store charges immediately for a preorder or limits refunds after a download begins. Activision’s eligibility statement does not replace the store’s consumer policy, and buying twice will not necessarily repair a missing entitlement.
Verify the offer before spending money
Early-access terms can change by platform, country and edition. Use this check before you pay:
- Open Activision’s current Modern Warfare 4 Editions page and confirm that it still lists DMZ Early Access for the edition and date you are considering.
- Choose the platform on which you will actually play. Eligibility is connected to the digital purchase and the platform account, so buying on one ecosystem does not automatically give you an install entitlement on another.
- Open that platform’s official store listing and confirm that the DMZ benefit appears in the current product description, preorder terms or edition details.
- Check your country or territory. Activision’s Modern Warfare 4 Beta FAQ warns that availability can vary by territory and retailer; the same qualification should be applied to a live DMZ listing.
- Review the cancellation and refund rules shown by your store. Those policies are controlled by the platform, not by an unofficial code seller.
- Make sure the account shown at checkout is the one you can access on launch day. A family member’s, friend’s or secondary account purchase may not grant your primary account the expected library item.
Activision’s beta FAQ names Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, Battle.net, Steam Store, Nintendo eShop and most retailers as preorder channels. Use a retailer only when the current official offer clearly covers it. The FAQ does not endorse arbitrary third-party download sites.
Buy through an official storefront
The safest purchase path is a digital transaction in the store or launcher that will deliver the game to your account. The following comparison uses the routes Activision identifies and the checks that matter for each one.

| Route | What the official information establishes | Check before purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Digital preorder or prepurchase | Any digital edition on any platform is stated to qualify for the scheduled DMZ Early Access. | Confirm the transaction is digital and linked to the account and platform you will use. |
| Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, Battle.net, Steam Store or Nintendo eShop | Activision’s beta FAQ lists these stores as preorder options. | Verify that the live Modern Warfare 4 listing still shows the DMZ benefit in your territory. |
| Another retailer | The FAQ refers to most retailers, subject to availability and territory. | Use only a retailer explicitly covered by the current official terms and obtain a normal platform entitlement. |
| PC installation | Activision’s PC guidance supplies launcher download steps and security requirements for its Modern Warfare 4 beta. | Check the current DMZ page for changed requirements, then verify TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and hardware compatibility. |
| Physical preorder | The current edition wording reviewed here describes a digital offer and does not confirm discs. | Do not count on early access unless Activision’s live terms explicitly add physical reservations. |
No source establishes that one supported platform is universally safer or faster. Your best choice is the platform you already own, can secure, and can use in the territory shown by its store.
Install the early-access build when it appears
The DMZ-specific listing may not be visible until Activision or the platform opens it. When it is available, use the official store or launcher rather than downloading an executable from a message, forum or file-sharing site.
- Sign in to the platform account used for the digital preorder.
- Search the store or launcher for the current Modern Warfare 4 DMZ early-access listing. Confirm the publisher, product name and entitlement details before selecting anything.
- Choose Install, Download or the equivalent platform command. Activision’s beta instructions use this store-or-launcher workflow; the final DMZ labels may differ.
- Allow the platform to complete its own download and updates. Do not substitute a “pre-release build” installer supplied by another account.
- Launch only after the announced access window opens. If the button remains locked before October 20, that can simply mean the window has not started or the platform has not refreshed your entitlement.
- Sign in with the intended platform and Activision accounts when the game requests them. Avoid sharing credentials or accepting an account transfer from a stranger.
If Activision publishes revised DMZ installation instructions, follow those instructions over the older beta workflow. The beta guide is useful for understanding where a listing normally appears, but it is not proof that every beta package is the new DMZ build.
What not to install
There is no verified need for a cracked executable, a modified launcher, a “bypass” for the access timer or a separate utility that claims to unlock DMZ. Such files can expose your Activision credentials or install malware, and bypassing anti-cheat controls can create account problems. The official store should handle ownership checks, patching and updates without a second installer.
PC: check TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot
Activision’s Modern Warfare 4 PC and beta guidance tells PC players to enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. The company says these protections support RICOCHET Anti-Cheat and notes that additional security measures may be enforced. Because the separate DMZ early-access page can change, verify its current requirements immediately before installation.
How to check safely
- In Windows, search for System Information and inspect the Secure Boot State entry. It should report that Secure Boot is on when the game requires it.
- Open Windows Security and select Device security to view the security-processor information. The exact wording depends on Windows version and hardware.
- If either setting is disabled, consult your motherboard or PC maker’s current firmware instructions before changing BIOS settings. Do not blindly switch firmware mode or reset keys on a working installation.
- After changing a setting, save the firmware configuration, boot back into Windows and recheck the status before launching the game.
- Read the live DMZ requirements for any additional hardware or security checks. The beta article is guidance from an earlier access period, not a guarantee that the final checklist is unchanged.
These checks are requirements guidance, not a recommendation to buy repair software. If your PC cannot meet the final DMZ requirements, use Activision’s published support channels or the platform’s compatibility information rather than an unofficial workaround.
Confirm account and territory eligibility
Use the account that owns the preorder and is linked to your intended platform. Activision’s edition terms warn that certain Activision IDs permanently banned from previous Call of Duty titles may not be eligible to play Modern Warfare 4. A new purchase does not override an account restriction.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

Territory restrictions can also affect whether the listing, preorder benefit or download is visible. A store page available in one country is not evidence that the same offer exists everywhere. If the official listing is absent, check the territory shown in your account and store settings; do not change those details merely to obtain an unverified entitlement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsKeep two identities straight: the platform account owns the purchase, while the Activision ID is used for Call of Duty services. Both should be accessible and linked before launch. If you recently changed an email address, enabled two-factor authentication or unlinked an account, resolve that with official support rather than testing a stranger’s credentials.
Do not confuse the new mode with the old DMZ Beta
Modern Warfare II had a separate DMZ Beta with its own installation route. Activision’s Modern Warfare II installation instructions and the Steam listing for Modern Warfare II – DMZ Beta describe that legacy product. Steam states that the base game is required for that listing.
That older package is not evidence that you qualify for the new Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Early Access period. Searching for “DMZ” can surface both products, especially on PC. Check the game title, edition year and publisher information before downloading. The new access offer is tied to the current Modern Warfare 4 digital purchase, not ownership of the legacy beta.
What to do when access does not appear
The store shows no DMZ benefit
Return to Activision’s current editions page and compare its wording with the exact edition in your store. If the Activision page still promises access but your regional listing does not, capture the product name and contact the platform or Activision support team. Do not pay a second seller for a code while the entitlement is unresolved.
The download button is missing before October 20
Early access is scheduled for October 20 (PT), so a locked button before that window is not by itself a failure. Check for a platform update, restart the official launcher and look again after the announced opening time. Use the current DMZ instructions if Activision publishes a separate preload period.
The game says you are not entitled
Confirm that you are signed into the purchasing platform account, that the transaction is complete rather than merely abandoned in a cart, and that the store region matches the purchase. Then verify the linked Activision ID. A permanently restricted Activision ID may remain ineligible even when the purchase is valid.

PC security checks fail
Recheck TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot in Windows after any firmware change. If the settings are enabled but the game still reports a security failure, record the exact message and use Activision’s current support guidance. Avoid downloading modified launchers or disabling anti-cheat protections; those actions can create additional account and malware risk.
A seller offers an “early build” outside the store
Stop and compare the offer with the official entitlement. The reviewed Activision instructions provide no alternative legitimate channel for a standalone build. Unofficial installers, shared credentials and code sellers can expose your account or device, and they are unnecessary when the digital offer is available through a supported store.

A safe launch-day sequence
On October 20, 2026, use this order to minimize mistakes:
- Read the latest Activision edition terms and note any changed start time or territory restriction.
- Update the official platform launcher and the game from its own library.
- Confirm that the preorder account and linked Activision ID are the accounts you intend to use.
- On PC, verify the current DMZ requirements, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot if they remain listed.
- Start DMZ from the official game installation after the access window opens, not from the legacy Modern Warfare II beta listing.
- If access still fails, save the exact error, order confirmation and platform region before contacting support. Those details are more useful than screenshots of an unofficial download page.
Activision’s Xbox-focused launch context is available through Xbox Wire, while a contemporaneous schedule report appears at Windows Central. Neither replaces Activision’s own edition terms, which control eligibility.
Decision guide: which route fits your situation?
- You already own a supported platform: preorder or prepurchase a digital edition in that platform’s official store, then install through its library.
- You are choosing between platforms: select the ecosystem whose account, region, hardware and launcher you can verify; the evidence does not establish a universal platform winner.
- You have only a physical preorder: treat DMZ early access as unconfirmed until Activision explicitly says that physical reservations qualify.
- You found an old DMZ download: check whether it is labeled Modern Warfare II – DMZ Beta; that is a separate product.
- Your PC fails security checks: follow the current Activision requirements and manufacturer firmware guidance instead of using a modified build or bypass.
- You want to spend as little as possible: compare the digital editions shown by your own storefront, but do not trade official entitlement for an unverified key. No single price or edition discount is established across all regions.
The dependable path is narrow but clear: a qualifying digital Modern Warfare 4 purchase, an official platform installation, a supported territory and an eligible account. Recheck the live Activision page and your storefront close to October 20 because those are the places where revised terms will appear first.
Frequently Asked Questions

What date does DMZ Early Access start?
Activision lists Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in Pacific Time. Your local opening time may differ, and Activision or the platform can revise the schedule.
Can I buy on one platform and play on another?
Do not assume so. Buy on the platform where you intend to install and play, and confirm the entitlement in that platform’s account library.
Where should I download the early-access build?
Use Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, Battle.net, Steam Store, Nintendo eShop or a retailer explicitly covered by the current official offer. Avoid unofficial installers and code sellers.
Are TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot required?
Activision’s Modern Warfare 4 beta guidance specifies both for PC and links them to RICOCHET Anti-Cheat. Check the current DMZ requirements because the final checklist may change.
Is the old Modern Warfare II DMZ Beta the same thing?
No. It is a separate legacy listing with its own installation instructions; Steam says that package requires the base game. It does not prove eligibility for Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Early Access.
What if my account is permanently banned?
Activision warns that certain permanently banned Activision IDs from previous Call of Duty titles may not be eligible for Modern Warfare 4. A valid purchase does not necessarily remove that restriction.
The Bottom Line
To access DMZ early, purchase a qualifying digital Modern Warfare 4 edition on the platform you will use, then install it only through that platform’s official store or launcher. Confirm the October 20, 2026 (PT) schedule, territory terms, linked accounts and current PC security requirements. Ignore unofficial builds and the separate Modern Warfare II DMZ Beta listing.
