Use a Slime Crown to summon King Slime. In modern Desktop, Console, and Mobile versions of Terraria, you can use it in any biome and at any time. Craft one with 20 Gel and either a Gold Crown or Platinum Crown at a Demon Altar or Crimson Altar.
How to craft and use a Slime Crown
- Make a crown. At an Iron Anvil or Lead Anvil, craft either a Gold Crown from 5 Gold Bars and 1 Ruby, or a Platinum Crown from 5 Platinum Bars and 1 Ruby. See the Gold Crown and Platinum Crown item pages.
- Craft the Slime Crown. At a Demon Altar or Crimson Altar, combine the crown with 20 Gel. The Slime Crown recipe accepts either crown type.
- Summon King Slime. Select and use the Slime Crown from your inventory. You do not need to be in a particular biome or wait for a particular time of day.
Which versions use this recipe?
The 20-Gel recipe applies to the main modern Desktop, Console, and Mobile versions covered by the Official Terraria Wiki. Old-generation console and Nintendo 3DS editions use a legacy recipe: 99 Gel plus a Gold or Platinum Crown at a Demon or Crimson Altar. If you play one of those editions, check the version-specific Slime Crown page before gathering materials.
Can King Slime appear without a Slime Crown?
Yes. The Official Terraria Wiki’s King Slime page records several alternate appearances. These routes have their own conditions and are less direct than using the crown.
During Slime Rain
King Slime spawns after 150 qualifying slime kills during a Slime Rain. If King Slime has already been defeated in that world, the threshold is 75 qualifying kills.

Natural spawn
The Wiki records a 1-in-300 chance (about 0.33%) when a potential spawn point meets specific conditions: it must be in an outer lateral sixth of the map, above zero depth, during daytime, on standard green grass, with no more than a very small amount of water above it. King Slime must not already be alive, and the player must not be in a Graveyard biome. The spawn point is off-screen; after a successful roll, King Slime appears in a random location around the player.
In a Remix world
In Remix worlds, an eligible slime kill has a 1-in-200 chance to spawn King Slime if he has not already been defeated and is not alive, and at least one player has more than 140 maximum health and more than 8 defense. Slimes killed without player damage do not trigger this chance.
