The overlays are part of the video sent by OBS, so they stay visible wherever that scene is used.
Add the logo and channel name in OBS
- Build or open the scene. In OBS, use the scene that contains your cartoon playback source. If you have not made one, create a scene and add the source you use to play the cartoon.
- Add the logo. Add an image source to the scene and select your logo file. Resize and position it in the preview. If the logo has a transparent background, that transparency lets the cartoon show through around it.
- Add the channel name. Add a text source, enter the channel name, and choose a font, size, and color that remain legible over the cartoon. Exact menu labels can vary by OBS version; check the current interface if a control is named differently.
- Set the source order. In the Sources list, keep the logo and text above the cartoon playback source. Sources higher in the list appear in front of sources below them.
- Check placement at the output size. Keep overlays clear of important action and on-screen text. Make sure the name is readable at the stream’s output resolution, and check every scene you plan to use: an overlay added to one scene will not automatically appear in a different scene.
YouTube supports overlays in encoder-based streams, and identifies OBS as open-source encoder software available at no charge. YouTube describes an encoder as software that converts video into a digital format for streaming.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or select the live stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Set up the stream and locate its stream URL and stream key.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. In OBS’s streaming settings, provide the YouTube stream URL and key. Interface labels may differ across versions, so use the current OBS settings screen rather than relying on an outdated screenshot.
- Protect the stream key. YouTube describes the key as the stream’s password and address. Do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement.
Test the overlays before leaving the stream running
- Start a test stream, using an unlisted test when appropriate.
- Open the stream in YouTube and confirm that both the logo and channel name appear in the expected positions.
- Check the cartoon picture and audio, and inspect YouTube’s stream-health information before treating the setup as ready for continuous operation.
- If anything is obscured or hard to read, adjust the source position or size in OBS, then test again.
YouTube recommends testing before going live and checking video and audio quality. For output resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and related encoder settings, use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the resolution and frame rate you intend to send; the appropriate settings depend on that output, and no particular bitrate is established here.
Plan for a 24/7 broadcast
Do not assume the whole broadcast will be archived
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish the same archive guarantee for a continuous 24-hour broadcast. If preserving the full cartoon stream matters, check YouTube’s current archive behavior and plan a separate recording or scheduled segments.

Confirm you have the right to broadcast the cartoon
An OBS overlay setup does not grant permission to stream the cartoon. Confirm that your use of the video, audio, and any other included material is authorized, and consider YouTube’s applicable copyright and reused-content rules. Whether a particular cartoon or channel complies depends on the material and rights involved; the overlay itself cannot establish that.
Be ready to investigate interruptions
A successful test confirms the setup at that moment, not that a local computer, playback source, internet connection, or YouTube stream will stay uninterrupted indefinitely. Monitor the stream and investigate changes in YouTube stream health if the broadcast stops or its quality changes.
