How to Add a Logo and Scrolling Text to a Prerecorded YouTube Live Stream

Use OBS Media, Image, and Text or Browser Sources to layer a logo and scrolling ticker over a prerecorded video before sending it to YouTube Live.

Build the logo and ticker into the video scene in OBS Studio before sending it to YouTube. Add the prerecorded clip as a Media Source, layer an Image Source for your logo and a Text or Browser Source for the ticker above it, then use OBS’s Scroll Filter to move the ticker. Connect OBS to YouTube with the stream URL and key, inspect the preview, and select Go live in Live Control Room when the composition is ready.

What you need before you start

  • The prerecorded video file you intend to broadcast.
  • A logo image. A transparent PNG is a practical choice, but OBS Image Source also supports formats such as JPG, GIF, BMP, and TGA.
  • The final ticker text. Keep it concise enough to read at your output dimensions, and avoid covering important content in the video.
  • OBS Studio and access to the YouTube channel’s Live Control Room.

OBS Media Source supports common video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. Check that the selected file plays and that its audio is correct before connecting to YouTube.

Build the video composition in OBS

  1. Create or select a scene. Use a scene dedicated to this broadcast so its sources and layout are easy to verify.
  2. Add the prerecorded video. In Sources, add a Media Source and select the file. Preview it and listen for audio. The Media Source’s Loop option is off by default; turn it on only if the clip should repeat.
  3. Add the logo. Add an Image Source, choose the logo file, then resize and position it in the preview. Keep it clear of important on-screen information.
  4. Add the ticker. Add a Text (GDI+) source on Windows or the available text source for your OBS platform and enter the ticker copy. If you want a more designed ticker, add a Browser Source that renders a local or web page containing the graphic.
  5. Apply movement. Right-click the ticker source and choose Filters. Add the Scroll filter, set horizontal speed and direction, and decide whether the source should loop after it moves offscreen. Negative horizontal speed moves left; positive speed moves right. The filter can also constrain width and height to keep the ticker within a strip.
  6. Arrange the layers. In the Sources list, place the video below the logo and ticker. Sources higher in the list appear above lower sources and can obscure them. Position and size each overlay in the preview, then inspect the full composition at the intended stream dimensions.

OBS documents the Scroll Filter for marquee text and supports horizontal or vertical scrolling. If the ticker vanishes after crossing the screen, check its direction and looping setting; if it appears behind the video, move it higher in the source order.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Studio and create or select the broadcast in Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that broadcast.
  2. In OBS, open Settings and then Stream. Select YouTube or the relevant custom service option, and enter the server URL and stream key from YouTube. YouTube’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.”
  3. Keep the stream key private: it grants access to the stream connection. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
  4. Start streaming from OBS. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Check the video, logo, moving ticker, audio, and stream status before selecting Go live.

Check quality, copyright, and broadcast readiness

Test before going live and monitor stream health during the broadcast. YouTube recommends checking audio and motion similar to what the actual stream will contain. Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate your internet connection and encoder can sustain; YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP, and automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance for current recommendations.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Use only video, music, logos, and ticker material you have the rights to broadcast. A prerecorded clip being presented as live does not remove copyright obligations. Review YouTube’s current copyright safety checklist before scheduling a stream, and make sure the ticker does not make misleading claims about what is happening live.

Common problems and fixes

  • The logo or ticker is hidden: move its source above the video in the Sources list, then check whether another overlay is covering it.
  • The ticker does not move: confirm the Scroll Filter is attached to the ticker source, its horizontal speed is not zero, and its direction is correct. Enable looping if it should reappear after leaving the screen.
  • The video stops at the end: enable Loop in the Media Source properties if you intend the prerecorded clip to repeat.
  • YouTube receives no stream: verify the stream URL and key match the selected broadcast, then confirm OBS is streaming and check Live Control Room for connection status.
  • Playback stutters or stream health is poor: test the connection, lower the output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a sustainable level, and review YouTube’s encoder guidance. Do not assume a particular bitrate will work on every connection.
  • Audio is missing or wrong: check the Media Source playback and OBS audio meters before starting the broadcast, then verify audio in the incoming YouTube preview.

When a standalone encoder makes sense

OBS is the direct software route when you need explicit source layering and a moving ticker. YouTube’s encoder listing also names the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone option for scheduling prerecorded media and adding logos or lower-thirds. Its cited description does not establish scrolling-ticker support or pricing, so confirm those details with the manufacturer before choosing it. It is not required for the OBS workflow.
