Add a now-playing ticker by placing a text overlay in the video scene that feeds your YouTube live stream. For an OBS-based setup, the OBS Project forum lists a Chrome extension called Music on stream that supports YouTube and YouTube Music and can use YouTube chapters or a playlist in the video description as track-title inputs. Match its metadata source to your actual audio playback method, then test the overlay before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
What the ticker is—and what it is not
A ticker is text rendered into the outgoing video image by your production scene or an overlay. It is separate from the YouTube live broadcast title and description: those are stream metadata, and changing them does not paint changing song information onto the video. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes broadcast metadata and management, not automatic song recognition or an on-video ticker (LiveBroadcasts resource; Live Streaming API).
For a music stream, the overlay also needs a dependable source for the song title and artist. If you control the playlist, prepared metadata such as chapter markers or a description playlist may be more dependable than assuming a service can identify whatever audio happens to be playing.
Choose a metadata source that matches the audio
Music on stream extension
The OBS Project forum listing for Music on stream describes a Chrome extension with a current-song overlay for YouTube and YouTube Music. It says the extension can use YouTube chapters or a video-description playlist as track-title inputs, hide the overlay when music is paused, and scroll long titles. The listing records an initial release on April 12, 2024, and a last update on September 18, 2025. Those details do not establish compatibility with every current OBS or browser configuration; check the extension’s linked setup guide and verify it with your precise playback path before using it continuously.

Custom overlay or API workflow
A custom application can retrieve metadata from a source you control and render it in a browser overlay. This can suit a prepared playlist, but official YouTube APIs do not automatically identify every track heard in a YouTube video. A custom route also means maintaining the metadata and implementation, and checking the terms that apply to each data source.
Do not build a non-interactive broadcast ticker around Spotify’s currently-playing endpoint. Although the endpoint can return playback metadata, Spotify’s Web API policy says the platform cannot be used for non-interactive broadcasting and that sound recordings may not be synchronized with visual media (Currently Playing Track endpoint; Spotify Developer Terms). A metadata endpoint’s existence is not permission to use its content this way.

YouTube title and description
Use the live title and description to identify the broadcast and provide useful playlist information. They are not substitutes for an overlay when the goal is to show the changing song title within the video itself.
Set up and test the ticker
- Identify the audio path. Note whether the stream plays a YouTube playlist, a long-form video, or another source, and decide how each track’s title and artist are represented. Music on stream’s listing identifies YouTube chapters and a playlist in the video description as input options.
- Read the current extension setup guide. Follow the instructions linked from the OBS Project forum listing. The listing itself does not document every installation or configuration step, so do not assume a particular menu path or browser-source procedure without checking the current guide.
- Add the overlay to the live scene. Place the extension-provided overlay in the scene that produces the outgoing video, using the integration method in its current instructions. Confirm that it appears in the composed stream image rather than only in your local browser or control interface.
- Design for Hindi titles. Check that the chosen font renders Devanagari correctly. Make sure long titles remain readable, choose a high-contrast placement that does not obscure important video content, and decide what viewers should see between tracks. These are design decisions; they are not independently verified extension capabilities.
- Test with the real playback source. Confirm that title and artist match the audio, then check track transitions, paused or empty states, long Hindi titles, and behavior after restarting the source or browser. No live installation or stream test has been established for the extension, so your own test is essential.
- Keep playlist metadata current. If the running order changes, update the relevant chapter markers or description playlist. Do not describe the ticker as automatic audio recognition unless the specific setup explicitly provides it and your testing confirms it.
What to compare before choosing an approach

Across these approaches, check player compatibility, whether titles are automatic or manually maintained, Devanagari rendering and long-title handling, resilience during continuous playback, policy compliance, and any current costs. No physical accessory is established as necessary to add a software ticker.

Copyright and continuous-stream checks
A ticker labels music; it does not grant permission to broadcast it. Before running a 24/7 Hindi music stream, confirm that you have the rights or authorization needed for the recordings and any other material in the broadcast, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules. Keep the playlist metadata accurate and remove or replace material you are not authorized to use. A track title on screen is not a substitute for licensing or platform compliance.
