Add session labels to the replay after your YouTube live stream has ended and is available as a video. In YouTube Studio, open Content, select the Live tab, open the stream archive’s details, and put timestamp-and-title pairs in its description. YouTube’s chapter instructions apply to videos; using them on a live-stream archive follows from YouTube’s guidance that replays are videos on your channel.
How to add session labels to a live replay
- Make sure the stream has an archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so keep a local recording backup if the replay matters. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
- Open the replay in Studio. Go to YouTube Studio → Content → Live, select the archived stream, and open its details. YouTube’s video-editing workflow lets creators edit video details such as the description; interface labels may change. See YouTube’s video details instructions.
- Find the boundaries in the replay. Play the recording and note the actual time where each yoga session or practice segment begins. Check playback around each boundary so the title describes what viewers will find there.
- Add timestamp-title pairs to the description. Put them in ascending order, beginning with
00:00, then save the video details. Use the replay’s real timestamps, not an estimated schedule. - Check the result. Open the replay and confirm the chapter divisions and titles appear. Viewers can use chapter divisions on the progress bar or chapter titles in the description and player. See YouTube’s viewer guidance on chapters.
A possible format is below. These times are examples only; replace them with the boundaries in your own replay.
00:00 Welcome and breath setting
08:30 Seated warm-up
18:00 Standing flow
34:00 Balance work

YouTube Help specifies these rules for manually added video chapters:
- The first timestamp must be
00:00(or0:00). - Include at least three timestamps in ascending order.
- Each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long.
- Enter both timestamps and titles in the video description, then save.
Manual chapters override automatic chapters. The rules are documented on YouTube’s Video chapters page.

Manual or automatic chapters?

For labels such as “standing flow,” “balance work,” or “cool-down,” manual chapters are the more dependable choice because you control the wording. Automatic chapters can be enabled in Studio when available, but YouTube does not guarantee them for every eligible video. See YouTube’s video settings guidance.
If chapters do not appear
- Recheck formatting: confirm the list starts at
00:00, contains at least three ascending timestamps, and gives every chapter at least 10 seconds. - Check chapter access: YouTube says creators without chapter access can apply for advanced features.
- Check video eligibility: YouTube says chapters may be unavailable when a channel has active strikes or content is potentially inappropriate to some viewers.
- Confirm you edited the replay: the documented chapter workflow is for a video description. The replay-specific method is to edit the archived stream as a video, rather than rely on chapter labels during the live broadcast.
