Crossfade must happen in the audio playback or preparation stage, before the mixed sound reaches YouTube. YouTube’s live-stream controls do not provide the crossfade setting described here. Use a player or playout service that explicitly supports track-to-track crossfade, check the result with an unlisted test, and confirm music rights before broadcasting.
How do I crossfade songs on a 24/7 YouTube stream?
Choose where the audio transitions will be created, then route that finished audio into the system sending your live stream to YouTube. There are two practical approaches:
- Local playback and encoder: use an audio player or prepare a continuous mix that you have verified actually overlaps tracks. Send its output to your encoder. This gives you local control but depends on the local playback and streaming setup remaining operational.
- Cloud playout: use a cloud service with an explicit audio crossfade control. Upstream documents a separate audio playlist and visual playlist, with a crossfade duration setting from zero to 20 seconds in whole-second increments. Its vendor page says playlists can be edited and published while a stream is running without stopping it. These are vendor-stated features, not independent test results. Upstream feature details
A conventional scene or video fade does not establish that audio tracks crossfade. YouTube’s encoder guidance discusses the control an encoder provides, but does not describe an OBS track-crossfade setting or plug-in. Do not assume a YouTube playlist, YouTube Music, or a default OBS source will crossfade the audio of a continuous live broadcast.
Choose and tune the transition
Start with a short crossfade, listen across several contrasting song pairs, and lengthen it only if the music benefits. This is a practical listening method, not a universal best duration. A longer overlap can cover silence, but may make vocals, rhythms, or introductions collide. Check the outgoing tail, incoming opening, and relative levels; devotional, classical, film, folk, and contemporary music can call for different treatment.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
On Upstream, the documented control ranges from 0 to 20 seconds, adjustable in whole-second increments. The provider describes zero as an immediate transition. It does not identify an optimal duration for Indian music or promise that one setting will suit every track pair. See the provider’s crossfade feature description
Set up and test the broadcast
- Confirm live access: make sure the channel is eligible to start a live stream. YouTube for Artists says first-time streamers should enable live streaming by verifying the account at least 24 hours before going live. Check the current Live Control Room instructions for your channel. YouTube for Artists
- Prepare authorized audio: use recordings and compositions you are entitled to broadcast, including any intended replay or archive use. Confirm whether rights holders require your channel to be allowlisted in Content ID.
- Configure the playback stage: set the crossfade in a tool that explicitly supports track-to-track audio overlap, or use a verified pre-rendered continuous mix. In a local setup, confirm the encoder captures that mixed output rather than an unrelated desktop or monitoring source.
- Run an unlisted test: YouTube for Artists recommends testing an unlisted stream for high-production or high-investment events. Listen for gaps, clipping, unwanted overlaps, level jumps, and accidental audio capture before making the broadcast public. YouTube for Artists
- Plan continuous operation: check power, network, monitoring, and recovery procedures for the playback and encoding systems you choose. No specific 24/7 reliability plan or uptime guarantee is established by the cited workflow sources.
Clear music rights before going live
Crossfade is a production setting, not a music license. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider represents and warrants that it has the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The terms also require compliance with applicable laws and territory-specific licensing, registration, notification, or approval requirements. YouTube livestream terms and conditions

YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. If it identifies such content, a placeholder may replace the stream and YouTube may warn the creator to stop; continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. For licensed third-party content, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add the channel to the Content ID allowlist; the stream may still be interrupted if this has not been done. YouTube Help: copyright issues with live streams
YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream. Buying or subscribing to a music service does not, by itself, establish public livestream rights. Creator Music is not a workaround: YouTube’s FAQ says it currently does not support licensing for live content. YouTube Creator Music FAQ

The permissions needed for a particular Indian music catalog depend on its rights holders, territories, and intended use. YouTube’s terms establish the provider’s responsibility; they do not determine which permissions a specific channel needs. Obtain written confirmation from the relevant rights holders or qualified counsel for your catalog and planned broadcast.
Can OBS crossfade between tracks?
The available YouTube guidance supports using an encoder for added customization and control, but it does not establish an OBS track-to-track crossfade procedure, a particular plug-in, or version-specific settings. If you use OBS, first create or route audio through a player or audio application that explicitly performs the intended overlap, then verify that the sound reaching the encoder is the crossfaded mix. A fade between scenes is not proof that the songs themselves overlap.
