You cannot prevent every copyright claim with a streaming setting. The reliable starting point is to clear the rights to each recording and composition for the way you plan to use them, and, when you license third-party music, have the rights owner add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before you go live. YouTube scans live streams for matches; a licensed track can still trigger an interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted.
What can happen to a 24/7 prerecorded music stream
A prerecorded playlist broadcast continuously is still a live stream while it is being transmitted. YouTube says it scans all live streams for matches to third-party content, including other live broadcasts. When it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn you to stop using the content. If the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream.
There are two distinct points at which a problem can arise. The live scan may interrupt the broadcast; if you choose to archive the stream, YouTube says a Content ID claim on the archived video may be made after the live stream ends. A clean live broadcast therefore does not establish that its archive will remain claim-free.
Clear rights for every recording before streaming
For each track, identify the rights in both the specific sound recording and the underlying musical composition. A recording and its composition can have different owners or administrators, and permission from one does not necessarily clear the other. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for use of live content on Google services worldwide, including relevant music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants.

Check the scope of permission
Confirm that the permission covers a YouTube livestream, the territories where you intend to make it available, and the planned duration. If you intend to leave a replay or archive available, confirm that this use is covered too. Do not assume that a license described as “royalty-free” or “for online use” necessarily covers a continuous live broadcast and its archive. The terms of the actual license determine its scope; if they are unclear, ask the rights holder or obtain qualified legal advice.
Choose between music you control and licensed music
You can use recordings and compositions for which you control all necessary rights, or license music from third parties. Compare the options by what rights are covered, whether live transmission and archiving are permitted, which territories and term apply, and whether the rights owner can and will allowlist your channel in Content ID. No particular licensing provider or catalog is established here as suitable for every channel; read the specific agreement rather than relying on a catalog label.

Get licensed tracks allowlisted before going live
A license and a Content ID allowlist are not the same thing. YouTube specifically warns that a live stream can be interrupted even when the creator has licensed third-party content if the channel has not been added to the rights owner’s allowlist.
- Ask the music owner or administrator whether the tracks are managed through Content ID and whether your channel must be allowlisted.
- Provide the channel identifier or channel URL the rights owner requests. Confirm that the allowlist applies to the channel you will actually use.
- Get confirmation from the rights owner that the allowlisting is complete before broadcasting. Keep that confirmation with the license and track records.
- If multiple owners or administrators control tracks in your playlist, check the required clearance for each relevant rights holder; one party’s confirmation does not establish that every track is cleared.
Allowlisting is an operational step YouTube recommends for licensed third-party content, not a substitute for permission to use it and not a guarantee against every mistaken, duplicate or later claim.

Use a rights checklist for the whole playlist
Before starting the continuous stream, make sure you can answer these questions for every track:
- Who controls the particular recording, and who controls or administers the composition?
- Do I have permission from the relevant rights holders for a live YouTube transmission?
- Does the permission cover the planned territories and duration?
- If I archive the broadcast, does the permission also cover leaving that replay available?
- Does the rights owner require a Content ID allowlist, and has it confirmed that my channel is included?
- Can I locate the license, track list, receipts or contract, relevant territory and term details, and allowlist confirmation if a claim appears?
This recordkeeping checklist follows from YouTube’s rights requirements, archive treatment and allowlisting advice; YouTube does not certify any particular contract or prescribe this exact checklist.

Test and monitor the broadcast and its archive
Before relying on a playlist for continuous broadcasting, check YouTube Studio for live warnings and monitor the stream after it begins. A test can help surface an issue, but it cannot guarantee that every potential match or later claim will be found. If you archive the broadcast, check the completed video’s copyright details after it ends: YouTube says claims on archived live streams are made after completion when the creator chooses to archive the video.
Do not treat a successful test, an uninterrupted stream, or the absence of an immediate warning as proof that you have all required rights. Keep the track inventory and clearance records available while the stream is running and after it is archived.

What to do when YouTube identifies a match
If the live stream is warned or interrupted
Check YouTube Studio and follow the warning for the affected content. Where possible, stop or remove the identified third-party material so the stream can continue. If the stream stops, check Studio for any related copyright strike rather than assuming that an interruption and a strike are the same event.
If a Content ID claim appears on the stream archive
- Open the affected video’s Restrictions or Copyright details in YouTube Studio.
- Check the claimant, identified material, affected segment, territories and policy. YouTube says a claim may block, monetize or track a video, and policies can vary by geography.
- Compare the identified material with your playlist and rights records. Check whether the relevant permission covers the use and whether the channel was allowlisted where required.
- Use YouTube’s dispute process only if you have a supportable basis. The existence of a claim does not prove it is mistaken, and disputing one is not risk-free.
Know the difference between a claim and a strike
A Content ID claim is not itself a copyright strike. A claim can result in a block, monetization or tracking policy, with some effects varying by country or region. A copyright removal request is a separate process; YouTube says a valid removal request that takes down content results in a strike. Read the specific notice in Studio and respond to the process it describes rather than treating the terms as interchangeable.
