How to Add Episode Titles and Artwork to an Always-On YouTube Podcast Stream

For separate podcast episodes, use a YouTube podcast playlist or RSS. A continuous live broadcast is one video; YouTube documents title and description edits, but not automatic episode artwork rotation.

YouTube does not document a built-in way to rotate episode titles and artwork inside one uninterrupted live broadcast. For separate, browsable podcast episodes, make each episode its own YouTube video in a podcast playlist or deliver episodes through an RSS feed. For one continuous live watch page, edit the broadcast’s title in Live Control Room or update its title and description through YouTube’s Live Streaming API; those documented tools do not provide automatic per-episode artwork rotation.

Choose between podcast episodes and one continuous broadcast

The right method depends on what “always-on podcast stream” means for your channel. YouTube’s podcast feature is organized around episode videos; a continuous live broadcast is a single video with broadcast-level metadata.

What you need Documented route What viewers get
Separate episodes with their own pages and episode-level information Create a podcast in YouTube Studio, designate a playlist of full episodes as a podcast, or connect an RSS feed Each episode is represented by a video. The podcast has square show artwork; RSS can create episode videos from feed entries.
One live watch page that stays continuous Create or manage an encoder stream in Live Control Room; edit the broadcast title there or use the Live Streaming API One live broadcast video with broadcast-level metadata. The API supports title and description updates.
Recurring live events that reuse encoder settings Reuse stream settings or associate separate broadcast resources with one stream resource Separate broadcast events can have separate metadata while using the same stream resource; YouTube documents only one event live at a time.

Decide whether viewers need separate episode video pages, whether the live URL must remain uninterrupted, where titles should be managed, and whether the image is podcast show art or artwork for a live video.

Create a podcast playlist and add show artwork

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Content → Podcasts.
  2. Create a podcast, or use the playlist options to enable podcast features on a playlist that contains full podcast episodes.
  3. Enter the podcast title and description, then add square podcast artwork. YouTube Help recommends a 1280 × 1280-pixel square thumbnail.
  4. Add existing or new episode videos to the podcast playlist and arrange their order.
  5. To change the show details later, return to the podcast’s Details page. There you can edit the title, description, square thumbnail, visibility, or video order.

Each episode must be represented by a video; an MP3 alone cannot become a YouTube podcast episode. YouTube advises using podcast playlists for full episodes, not separate clips or season playlists. See YouTube Help: Create a podcast in YouTube Studio.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Deliver episodes from an RSS feed

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Content → Podcasts and select the podcast’s Details page.
  2. Connect the podcast’s RSS feed and select the episodes to deliver. RSS ingestion is available only in selected countries or regions.
  3. YouTube creates a video for each selected episode, using the podcast’s show art as a static image. New episodes added to the connected feed can upload automatically.

Be deliberate about which service owns each item of metadata. YouTube does not automatically update podcast show details when they change in the RSS feed. Episode details do update from RSS, but if you edit an episode’s details in Studio, YouTube blocks subsequent RSS edits to those details. To replace audio for an RSS-ingested episode, upload that episode again from the feed; YouTube creates a new video and makes the previous one private.

YouTube sorts RSS-uploaded videos by the feed’s release date when one is available, but says that date is not verified. Depending on the YouTube surface, viewers may see the feed release date or the YouTube publish date. See YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed and YouTube Help: Manage podcast episodes from an RSS feed.

Change the title of a continuous live broadcast

Edit it in Live Control Room

  1. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live to open Live Control Room.
  2. Create or select the encoder stream, then open its settings. YouTube says stream settings can be edited when a stream is created, scheduled, or selected for editing.
  3. Change the broadcast title and save the settings. If you reuse a previous stream’s settings, you can change the new stream’s metadata.

The broadcast remains one video; changing its title does not create separate episode pages. See YouTube Help: Set up your encoder for live streaming and YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Automate title and description updates through the API

YouTube’s authorized Live Streaming API has a liveBroadcasts.update operation that can set snippet.title and snippet.description. The request requires YouTube OAuth authorization. Follow the current method reference’s required resource fields: its update guidance warns that omitting existing properties can delete them, and the writable fields should be checked against the current API documentation before implementation.

A liveBroadcast represents exactly one YouTube video. YouTube documents using one stream resource with multiple broadcast resources for recurring events, with only one event live at a time. That supports separate broadcast events with their own metadata; it is not documentation of a built-in scheduler that changes episode metadata inside one never-ending broadcast.

The broadcast resource documentation includes thumbnail information, but the documented writable properties for liveBroadcasts.update do not include a thumbnail property. YouTube’s documented live-broadcast update method therefore establishes title and description updates, not automatic artwork rotation. Check the current references before building an integration: Live Streaming API: liveBroadcasts.update, LiveBroadcast resource, and Broadcasts and streams.

What viewers can see—and what YouTube documents

  • Podcast playlist or RSS: episode videos are distinct and can be browsed as episodes; podcast show art is square artwork, and RSS delivery uses it as a static image for generated episode videos.
  • One continuous live broadcast: it is one video with broadcast-level metadata. The documented API supports changing its title and description.
  • Automatic per-episode changes within one uninterrupted live video: the cited YouTube documentation does not describe a native feature for automatically changing the title and artwork as successive episodes play. This is a limit of the documented YouTube workflows, not a claim about every third-party tool.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep uploaded podcast recordings playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is an option after you set up your episode files and metadata workflow. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It streams the videos as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required.

StreamNeo keeps the uploaded-video stream running; it does not replace YouTube’s podcast playlist or RSS workflow for separate episode pages, and it does not document automatic episode-title or artwork changes within one live broadcast. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
