How to send an Activision friend request
- Open the game’s Social menu.
- Select the Friends tab, then choose Invite Friends.
- Choose Enter Activision Account. Depending on the game or version, the label may differ.
- Enter the other player’s Activision ID as it appears in game and send the request. Activision’s Modern Warfare support instructions document this route.
Which ID should you enter?
Use the player’s Activision ID, rather than only their platform gamertag, to add them through the Activision friends list. Activision describes the ID as a unique identifier for an account; its example format is DisplayName#1234567. Some older IDs do not include the numeric suffix. See Activision’s account-management guidance.
If a search does not find the player, ask them to share their complete Activision ID exactly as it appears in game, including any numbers after the # sign.
How to accept a friend request
In the Modern Warfare interface documented by Activision, open Social > Friends > Invite Friends > Friend Request, then check Received Requests. The same screen also shows requests you have sent. Menu names may vary in other titles.

What if you do not know their Activision ID?
Check the game’s recently played players list. Modern Warfare’s support instructions place it under Friends > Invite Friends > Recently met Activision players, where you can select a player. Activision’s Warzone account-registration support page also describes using the Social menu to add recently played players, accept invitations, and manage blocked players.
Activision friends and platform friends are not the same
Call of Duty games may show both Activision friends and friends from the platform you are currently using. For cross-platform play, add the person through the Activision-account option; a platform gamertag alone may only identify them within that platform’s friend system.

Adding someone does not by itself guarantee that you can join the same party or match. Crossplay support and controls depend on the specific game and platform. For example, Activision’s Black Ops 6 crossplay guidance describes platform-specific settings: consoles and the Xbox PC app have different controls, while Steam and Battle.net players cannot disable crossplay. Those details apply to Black Ops 6, not necessarily to other Call of Duty titles.

If the player is not found or you cannot join
- Verify the ID: Check spelling and punctuation, and confirm the full ID with the other player. Older IDs may not have a numeric suffix.
- Try the recently played list: If the game offers it, find the player through the Social or Friends menu.
- Check the right request tab: In the documented Modern Warfare menu, incoming requests are under Friend Request > Received Requests.
- Review the game’s crossplay settings: If you are trying to party up across platforms, check the instructions for your exact title and platform. Options and availability are not universal across Call of Duty games.
