Those are separate processes. The old Nexus Mod Manager is outdated and unsupported; its community successor is called NMM Community Edition (NMM CE). Check the NMM CE listing for its current game support before trying to set up a title.
First, identify which “Nexus Mod Manager” you have
The name can refer to the discontinued legacy Nexus Mod Manager or to NMM Community Edition, a community-maintained evolution of that manager. Nexus Mods describes the old version as outdated and no longer supported, so do not assume instructions or support for one apply to the other. The project listing is the place to check NMM CE’s current status and supported games: NMM – Community Edition at Modding Tools.
How to add a game to NMM Community Edition
Check that the game is supported
NMM CE’s Nexus Mods listing claims support for more than 30 games and names titles including Skyrim editions, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout 4 VR, Oblivion, Morrowind, Starfield, Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, and Stardew Valley. The supported-game catalog can change; check the live listing for your exact game rather than relying on an older list or assuming that support for one edition includes another.
Use the current game-specific setup guidance
The available project information does not establish a universal in-app sequence for manually locating or adding every game. Menus, detection behavior, and installation paths can vary, so avoid relying on an assumed “add game” button or copying a path from instructions for a different title. Once you confirm the game is listed, consult the current NMM CE release information and the project’s support resources for instructions specific to that game and version.

Use manager downloads where available
NMM CE’s project listing says it handles Nexus Mods’ “Download with manager” button where that option is available. This is a route for sending compatible Nexus Mods downloads to the manager; it does not establish that every game, mod, or installation workflow is supported. Follow the current instructions for the game and mod you want to use.
If you mean adding a game page to the Nexus Mods website
A website game entry is not a local manager setup. Nexus Mods’ separate process begins when submitting a mod for a game that is not already available in its catalog. Its help page, How can I add a new game to Nexus Mods?, says to enter the game’s official title, check for existing entries and alternate spellings, then choose “ADD NEW GAME” if it is absent and send the request.

Nexus Mods says approval depends in part on having ready-to-download mods that meet its submission guidelines, and the title must be a legitimate standalone game—not DLC or a total conversion. Requesting a listing does not install the game in NMM CE or guarantee that it will be approved.

You can investigate Vortex, Nexus Mods’ other mod manager. Its official pages describe integration with Nexus Mods and claim support for over 500 games; that number is a product-page claim, not an independent comparison. Check the Vortex overview and Vortex Mod Manager page for current information, then verify that your exact game and desired mods fit its workflow.

Do not assume that changing managers will preserve an existing setup or that every mod works in both. Check compatibility with your game installation and mods before moving or rebuilding a mod setup.
