Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe reliable way to add modded loot is to use DayZ’s server-side Central Economy (CE), not to edit the stock economy file. Install the mod, place its economy XML files in a separate folder inside the active mission, register that folder in the mission-root cfgeconomycore.xml, then tune the item’s types and spawnabletypes definitions. Restart the server and verify the CE logs before judging whether the item is spawning.

How DayZ’s Central Economy controls modded loot
DayZ Standalone does not decide world loot from the client’s mod list or from an administrator menu. The Central Economy is a server-side system. It reads XML files in the active mission folder, tracks populations over time, and schedules replacements when counts fall below configured thresholds.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →That distinction explains the most common surprise: an item can appear in an admin or spawning menu and still never appear naturally. The menu proves that the game can create the class; it does not prove that the CE has a registered economy definition, valid location tags, or an enabled dynamic-loot subsystem.
The CE repeatedly compares the number of counted copies with each item’s configured nominal and min values. It can count copies on the map, in cargo, in hoarded stashes, or in player inventories when those counting flags are enabled. Items that have not been touched can be removed after their lifetime, and the CE then schedules replacements according to restock and current population.

Keep the installation modular: leave the vanilla db/types.xml unchanged, put each mod’s economy files in its own mission subfolder, and register those files through cfgeconomycore.xml. Vanilla files are large—StarDZ Team’s 2026 directory reference describes the stock types.xml as approximately 23,000 lines—so a small custom file is easier to audit and less likely to be lost during a mission update.
Prepare the server before editing XML
Confirm the mod and server version
Add the mod to the server’s mod list exactly as its author specifies. Some mods also require a key file on the server; copy that key into the server’s keys directory when the installation notes call for it. Follow the mod’s supplied ServerFiles or equivalent instructions because filenames, classnames, and required economy files differ.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCheck that the mod version is compatible with the server’s DayZ version. A perfectly formatted XML file still fails if the classnames no longer exist in the installed PBOs or if the mod expects a different game schema.
Back up the mission and record a rollback point
Stop the server before changing mission files and make a copy of the entire active mission directory. Keep the original cfgeconomycore.xml and any existing custom economy folders in that backup. A rollback copy lets you remove one mod’s definitions without restoring unrelated server settings.
Use a controlled test area
For the first test, choose a quiet area of the map and use a small number of new classes. Avoid changing several mods’ loot settings at once. The CE does not expose its state directly to clients, so controlled observation plus server logs is more reliable than repeatedly checking an administrator menu.
Find the active mission folder
The CE files belong to the mission that the server actually loads. A typical Chernarus mission path is:
mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/
Your server may use another mission name or map, so confirm the path in the startup configuration and host control panel before copying files. The important layout is consistent:
db/contains core economy files such as the stocktypes.xml.- Mission-root files such as
cfgeconomycore.xmland othercfg*files sit directly under the mission directory. - Custom CE folders can sit beside
db/; they do not need to be inside the vanilla database directory.
If you edit a mission that is not active, the server will ignore every change and appear broken even though the XML is valid.

Create a separate economy folder for the mod
Create a folder named for the mod under the mission root. For an imaginary NightPatrol equipment mod, the path could be:
mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/nightpatrol_ce/
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Copy the mod’s supplied economy files into that folder. A common arrangement is:
| File in the custom folder | CE role |
|---|---|
np_types.xml |
Defines the item population, timing, counting flags, and location tags. |
np_spawnabletypes.xml |
Defines pre-attached items, magazines, optics, clothing attachments, and cargo. |
The names are examples; use the files delivered by the mod. A mod may supply only a types file, or it may use different filenames. Do not assume that an unregistered XML file will be discovered automatically just because it is in db/ or the mission directory.
Keeping additions outside the stock db/ files has two advantages. You can disable the mod by removing one registration block, and a vanilla mission update is less likely to overwrite your work. It also makes it clear which definitions belong to which mod when you troubleshoot a conflict.
Register the files in cfgeconomycore.xml
Open the cfgeconomycore.xml file at the mission root. Preserve the existing vanilla rootclass entries and add a ce block for the custom folder. A minimal pattern is:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →<economycore>
<classes>
<!-- retain the existing vanilla rootclass entries -->
</classes>
<ce folder='nightpatrol_ce'>
<file name='np_types.xml' type='types' />
<file name='np_spawnabletypes.xml' type='spawnabletypes' />
</ce>
</economycore>
Point folder at the directory name relative to the mission root. The name value must exactly match the filename, including capitalization on systems that preserve case. The type value must match the CE schema.
Supported file types documented for the CE include types, spawnabletypes, globals, economy, events, and messages. Game version 1.28 documentation also supports randompresets. Register only the file types the mod actually supplies. If a mod provides a random-preset file, use the corresponding supported type rather than treating it as a second types file.

Adding an XML file to a folder without a matching <file> line does nothing. Conversely, a registration line pointing to a missing or malformed file can produce a CE parse error and prevent the intended definitions from loading.
Build and verify each <type> definition
Open the mod’s types file and find each class that should spawn naturally. The classname must match the class registered by the mod exactly, including capitalization and underscores. A typical definition contains these fields:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
| Element or attribute | What it controls | How to reason about it |
|---|---|---|
name |
The item classname. | One character wrong is enough to prevent natural spawning. |
nominal |
Target population. | The CE attempts to maintain this population under the selected counting rules. |
min |
Respawn threshold. | When the counted population falls below this level, replacement work becomes eligible. |
lifetime |
Untouched-item lifetime in seconds. | Items can be removed after this period when they have not been interacted with. |
restock |
Restock timing in seconds. | Controls the delay used when the CE schedules replenishment. |
| Quantity bounds | Minimum and maximum quantity for stackable or consumable contents. | Use the bounds supplied by the mod so batteries, fluids, ammunition, and similar items do not spawn with unintended quantities. |
cost |
Economy cost used by the CE. | Keep the value from the mod’s definition unless you have a specific balancing reason to change it. |
| Counting flags | Where copies are counted. | Flags can include map, cargo, hoarder, and player-inventory locations; enabling more locations generally slows replacement because more copies satisfy the target. |
category |
Item category. | Must be valid for the server’s limits definitions. |
usage |
Eligible building or area usage. | Controls which location groups can receive the item. |
value |
Loot-tier or economic value. | Works with the map’s value tiers and must be a declared valid tag. |
Lifetime and restock are seconds, not minutes. Treat nominal as a target population rather than a promise that that many items will appear immediately after a restart. Existing counted copies, spawn-point availability, cleanup, and the CE’s scheduling cycle all affect when you see replacements.
Check location tags before changing population numbers
An item with valid timing values can still appear nowhere if its usage or value tags do not match any eligible locations. Compare the tags with those already declared in the server’s limits-definition files. If a custom tag is required, declare it there first; do not invent a tag only in the item’s types entry.
Keep classnames unique
Use the exact classname supplied by the mod and avoid creating a second definition with the same name in another registered file. If two registered files define the same classname, load order determines which entry wins; the last-loaded entry takes precedence. Duplicate definitions make balancing difficult because changing one file may have no visible effect.
Add magazines, optics, attachments, and cargo
A types definition controls whether an item belongs to the natural loot population. It does not, by itself, tell the CE what should be inside a weapon or attached to clothing. For that, add a matching <type name='...'> block in the registered spawnable-types file.
Recommended Free Tools
Use the spawnable-types definition for:
- Pre-attached magazines and ammunition.
- Optics, suppressors, grips, and other weapon attachments.
- Attachments placed on clothing or equipment.
- Cargo inserted into a weapon, container, backpack, or other entity.
- Damage or quantity ranges for the spawned contents when the mod supplies them.
If a rifle appears naturally but is always empty, first inspect the spawnable-types registration rather than increasing its nominal value. A types entry can successfully create the weapon while leaving every attachment slot and cargo area empty.
When several entities share the same selection of possible contents, use the mod’s random presets where supported. This keeps the loot pool consistent and avoids copying a long list of identical attachment choices into every individual type. Confirm that the preset file is registered with the appropriate CE file type; a random-preset XML placed in the folder without registration is ignored.

Declare root classes only when the hierarchy requires it
Most items inherit from established roots such as Inventory_Base, DefaultWeapon, or DefaultMagazine. Those common roots normally need no new entry in cfgeconomycore.xml.
A custom item hierarchy outside the existing roots does require a corresponding root-class declaration. The same principle applies to custom category, usage, or value tags: they must be declared in the relevant limits-definition files before an item can use them reliably. A syntactically correct <type> block cannot compensate for an undefined hierarchy or tag.
When a mod author supplies a complete cfgeconomycore.xml fragment, merge its new declarations into the active file rather than replacing the file wholesale. Replacing it can remove vanilla roots or registrations required by other mods.
Restart and verify the CE on the server
- Stop the server. Editing live XML while the process is running can leave you testing an old in-memory configuration.
- Validate the file structure. Check that every element is closed, every registration points to an existing file, and each XML file has one coherent root element.
- Start the server and read the server-side CE logs. Look for parse errors, unknown classes, invalid tags, or failed registrations before investigating spawn locations.
- Test in a controlled area. Visit locations matching the item’s usage and value tags, then allow the CE enough time to perform its population checks. A restart is not a guarantee of an instant fresh spawn.
- Change one variable at a time. If you alter location tags, population, and attachments simultaneously, you will not know which change fixed or caused the result.
The CE runs only on the server. Clients cannot directly inspect the server’s CE state, so an administrator menu, a client-side inventory view, or a modded item icon is not proof that the economy registration succeeded.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot the failures that occur most often
The item appears in an admin menu but never in world loot
- Recheck the classname character by character against the mod’s definition.
- Confirm that the custom file is registered under a
<ce>block in the active mission’scfgeconomycore.xml. - Make sure the file’s declared type is
types, not a filename-based guess. - Check that
economy.xmlhas the dynamic and building subsystems enabled. - Review the server CE log for an unknown class, invalid tag, or XML parse failure.
The item spawns, but in the wrong places
Review its usage and value tags. They determine eligible location groups and tiers. Verify that every tag is valid in the server’s limits definitions and that the buildings you are testing actually belong to those groups.
The weapon is present but empty
Add or correct the matching spawnable-types entry. A types file determines population; it does not define pre-attached magazines, optics, or cargo. Confirm that the spawnable-types file is itself registered and that attachment classnames are valid for the weapon’s slots.
Loot is far too common or too rare
Tune the population controls together rather than changing only one number. nominal sets the target, min determines when replenishment becomes eligible, and lifetime and restock influence how quickly old items disappear and new ones are scheduled. Then inspect the counting flags: a copy in a player’s inventory, a hoarded container, or cargo can satisfy the target when that location is enabled, making the item appear rarer on the ground.
Vanilla updates erase or break the customization
Move additions out of stock db/ files and into registered custom folders. Keep a backup of the mission and re-check the registration block after a mission update. If the mod author changes a classname or filename, update both the custom file and its cfgeconomycore.xml entry.

Two mods appear to overwrite each other
Search all registered economy files for the repeated classname. Give genuinely new classes unique names, and inspect registration order when two files intentionally or accidentally define the same name. Because the last-loaded entry wins, a later file can silently replace an earlier population, tag, or attachment definition.
Tune abundance without destabilizing the economy
Start with a small target population
Begin with the mod author’s supplied values or a conservative target. Increase nominal only after confirming that the item reaches the intended locations and that counted copies are not accumulating in cargo or player inventories. High targets can make a rare item dominate available loot points, especially when its usage tags cover many buildings.
Use min to define the refill point
A lower min lets the existing population fall further before replacement becomes eligible; a higher value keeps the CE trying to refill sooner. Choose the threshold based on how many copies players should encounter between economy cycles, not on how many you want to see immediately after a restart.
Balance cleanup and restocking
lifetime controls how long untouched copies can remain, while restock controls the scheduling delay for replenishment. Very short lifetimes can remove loot before players reach remote areas. Very long lifetimes can leave abandoned copies counted for a long time, delaying replacements. Change one timing value, observe the result, and record the setting so later adjustments remain understandable.
Decide what the CE should count
Counting flags are a design decision. Counting map copies only keeps the ground population visible but allows players to hide unlimited copies elsewhere. Counting cargo, hoarded stashes, and player inventories makes the nominal target represent total server ownership, but it can reduce visible spawns after players collect the item. Match the flags to the role of the item: a rare weapon may need broad counting, while disposable supplies may need a more local population.
Use an update-safe multi-mod layout
Give every mod its own mission folder and registration block. For example, one mod can use nightpatrol_ce/ while another uses survivaltools_ce/. This arrangement lets you disable one mod by removing its <ce> block and leaves the other mod’s files intact.
Keep a written inventory of each registered file, its classnames, and the intended usage/value tags. When a server update or mod update arrives, compare that inventory with the new installation notes. Pay particular attention to renamed classes, moved attachment slots, and newly required files.
Do not solve a conflict by copying both definitions into the vanilla types.xml. That hides the source of the conflict and makes future updates harder. Find the duplicate classname, decide which definition should own it, and remove or rename the competing entry where the mod permits it.
A practical completion checklist
- The server loads the intended mod and any required key file.
- You edited the active mission, not an unused map directory.
- The mod’s XML files are in a dedicated mission subfolder.
- Every file is registered in
cfgeconomycore.xmlwith the correct CE type. - Each natural-loot classname has a valid
typesdefinition. - Usage, value, category, and custom hierarchy declarations are valid.
- Attachments and cargo are defined in the registered spawnable-types file.
- Population, timing, quantity, cost, and counting flags match the desired behavior.
- Server-side logs show no parse or registration errors after a restart.
- You tested locations that match the configured tags and allowed time for CE replenishment.
- No duplicate classname is unintentionally defined by another registered file.
- Your stock
db/files remain unchanged and backed up.
What a successful setup looks like
A successful setup has three separate pieces working together. The server loads the mod itself, cfgeconomycore.xml registers the mod’s economy files, and those files contain valid population and spawn-content definitions. The CE can then count existing copies, select eligible locations from usage and value tags, create the item population, and attach the contents described by spawnable-types rules.
