The most reliable way to add Magic: The Gathering dates is to collect them from Wizards of the Coast’s official product pages and Store and Event Locator, then import an .ics or .csv file through Google Calendar on a computer. For an automatically refreshed schedule, subscribe to a publisher’s public calendar feed with Other calendars → From URL. Add local prereleases, Friday Night Magic and other store events individually from the locator.
Keep set releases, Arena launches, prereleases and local play in separate calendars when you want different colors or reminder rules. Wizards can change announced dates, so record the region, time zone and retrieval date and check the official page again before sending reminders.

Which MTG dates should go on your calendar?
“Release date” can mean several different milestones. Wizards’ products index separates Set Releases, Universes Beyond Set Releases, Special Products and Upcoming Sets. Use that index for the broad release list, then open each set’s own page for the complete schedule.

For example, the products index currently gives Reality Fracture a release date of October 2, 2026, Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit a date of August 14, 2026, and Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek a date of November 13, 2026. Those are announcements for the listed market and retrieval date, not permanent calendar facts; verify them again before importing.

Do not collapse every milestone into one “set release” entry. The Edge of Eternities page, for instance, labels Previews, Story, Debut, Card Previews, Prerelease, MTG Arena, Tabletop and WPN in-store play separately. Create separate events when the dates are published so a digital launch does not look like an in-store tournament.
Build a trustworthy date list before importing
1. Define the scope
Decide whether you want only tabletop releases or a broader player calendar. A practical setup uses separate Google calendars such as MTG releases, MTG digital and MTG local events. Separate calendars let you hide Arena notices, give prereleases a different color and assign reminders only to events that require travel.
2. Start with the official products index
Use Wizards’ products page to capture announced set and product releases. Copy the exact title, date and category. Note the geography or edition whenever the page specifies one. Add a retrieval date such as “Checked October 17, 2026” to your working list; this makes later corrections auditable.
3. Open every relevant set page
Set pages often contain more useful milestones than the index. Record each published milestone as its own row, including whether it is for tabletop, MTG Arena, prerelease or WPN play. If a page gives only a date and not a start time, create an all-day event rather than inventing a time.
4. Find venue-specific events in the locator
Open the Wizards Store and Event Locator, set your location and choose a date or date range. The locator can narrow results to premium WPN stores and other event filters. Inspect the event and store detail pages for the format, entry information, venue address and local start time. Wizards says those detail pages can include a button to add the event to a personal calendar; use it when available, then confirm the resulting time zone and details.
Option 1: Import an ICS file (best for a prepared schedule)
An ICS file preserves event fields more reliably than manually retyping many dates. Google Calendar accepts ICS and CSV imports on a computer. An import is a snapshot: later changes on Wizards’ site do not change events already imported.

Create the file
Use a plain-text editor and save the file with an .ics extension and UTF-8 encoding. The required outer structure is a calendar wrapper containing one or more event blocks:

END:VEVENTIn your working file, put the exact Wizards page URL in DESCRIPTION. Keep the source URL, region, retrieval date and any “date subject to change” notice with the event so you can correct it later.
Import on a computer
- Open Google Calendar in a desktop browser.
- Open Settings, then choose Import & export.
- Select Select file from your computer and choose the ICS file.
- Choose the destination calendar, such as MTG releases.
- Click Import, then open several events to confirm dates, all-day status, descriptions and time zones.
Google says imported events go to the primary calendar by default unless you select another destination. Choosing a dedicated calendar prevents a large set schedule from filling your personal calendar.
Option 2: Import a CSV file
CSV is useful when your dates already live in a spreadsheet. Google’s importer expects recognizable calendar columns; use a header row such as Subject, Start Date, Start Time, End Date, End Time, All Day Event, Description, Location. Use the date format shown by Google Calendar’s importer, keep all-day rows’ time fields blank, and include a source note in Description.

After saving the spreadsheet as CSV, follow the same desktop path: Settings → Import & export → Select file from your computer, choose the destination calendar and import. CSV is less expressive than ICS for recurring or time-zone-heavy events, so use ICS for detailed local schedules.
Option 3: Subscribe to a live public calendar feed
A public ICS or calendar URL is different from an uploaded file. Google periodically reads the feed and can show owner changes, while an imported file remains unchanged until you import a replacement. Subscription timing is controlled by the calendar owner, so it is not necessarily immediate.
- Open Google Calendar on a computer.
- In the left column, find Other calendars and click Add other calendars.
- Choose From URL.
- Paste the publisher’s public calendar URL and click Add calendar.
- Look under Other calendars and set its color, visibility and notification preferences.
Only use a feed from a publisher you trust. If the feed disappears, stops updating or contains the wrong region, remove the subscription and use the current Wizards pages instead. A feed also cannot guarantee that a local store’s capacity, entry policy or time has not changed.

Add a local prerelease, FNM or store event
Global set pages cannot tell you which nearby store is running a prerelease or Friday Night Magic. The Store and Event Locator is the appropriate source for venue-specific events.
- Open the locator and enter your city, postal code or other location.
- Set the date or date-range filter to cover the weekend or week you need.
- Filter for the relevant event type or WPN store, then open an event result.
- Check the store name, address, format, start time, end time, capacity or entry instructions and time zone.
- Use the event page’s personal-calendar button when it is offered, or copy the details into your own ICS/CSV file.
- Place the event in an MTG local events calendar and add a travel reminder.
Store events are timed appointments, not all-day release markers. If an organizer lists only a date range, keep it as an all-day or multi-day event until a start time is confirmed. Do not convert a posted local time to UTC by guesswork; verify the calendar’s displayed time after adding it.
All-day dates, time zones and reminders
When to use an all-day event
Use all-day entries for a set’s announced tabletop release, a preview day with no published hour, or a prerelease weekend stated only as dates. All-day events avoid falsely implying that a product becomes available at midnight in every region.

When to use a timed event
Use start and end times for store tournaments, panels, launch streams and any appointment requiring travel. Include the venue’s local time zone in ICS and verify Google’s conversion if you view the calendar while traveling.
Choose reminders by event type
- Set releases: a notification on the day or one day before is usually enough.
- Prereleases and FNM: use a one-week planning reminder plus a travel reminder before the start time.
- Digital launches: use a notification only if the announcement gives a confirmed launch time.
Keep the calendar accurate when dates change
Wizards’ dates are volatile. Review the products index and each affected set page before publishing a schedule, buying travel, or sending a group reminder. For an ICS or CSV calendar, edit the source file and import a corrected version; if the old events remain, delete the original imported calendar first or remove the outdated entries before importing.
For every event, retain the official source URL in the description, the region, the time zone and the date you checked it. This makes it possible to distinguish a real date change from a time-zone display issue. A public feed reduces manual maintenance, but still check the owner’s current page because feed updates can be delayed.

Nothing appears after import
Confirm that Google reported a successful import, that you selected the intended destination calendar and that the calendar is visible in the left-hand list. Search for the event title rather than relying on the current week view.
The event is on the wrong day
Check whether the source was an all-day date or a timed date in another time zone. In ICS, use a date-only value for all-day events and an explicit time zone for local events. Re-import only after correcting the source row.

Google defaults to the primary calendar when no destination is chosen. Create or select a dedicated MTG calendar during import; then move or delete the mistakenly imported events.

Duplicate events appear
Repeated imports create additional copies because Google does not automatically reconcile an uploaded file with a previous import. Keep one master file, use stable UIDs in ICS, and remove the old imported set before loading a replacement.
A subscribed calendar is stale
Google does not control the publisher’s update schedule. Compare the feed with the current Wizards page, hide or remove the stale subscription and add a corrected feed if the owner supplies one.

This layout separates global announcements from appointments that involve a specific venue. It also lets you subscribe to or replace one schedule without disturbing the others.

Can I import MTG dates from the Google Calendar mobile app?
Google documents ICS and CSV importing through Google Calendar on a computer. Use the desktop web interface, then view the resulting calendar on mobile.
Will an imported Wizards schedule update automatically?
No. An uploaded ICS or CSV is a snapshot. Replace or re-import it when Wizards changes a date. Only a maintained public calendar URL can deliver owner-controlled updates.
How do I add a prerelease near me?
