In the CurseForge app, open My Modpacks, select your Minecraft profile, choose Add More Content, and install a pack from the Shaders filter. Then launch that same profile and activate the pack in Minecraft under Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs. The profile also needs a compatible shader loader, such as Iris or another option supported by the pack and your Minecraft version.
Install a shader pack through the CurseForge app
- Open CurseForge and select My Modpacks.
- Choose the profile or modpack where you want the shaders.
- Click Add More Content.
- Change the content filter from Mods to Shaders, or search for a pack by name.
- Choose a pack and click Install. Check that it appears in the profile’s Shaders tab.
- Launch the profile through CurseForge and start Minecraft.
- In Minecraft, open Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs, select the pack, and apply it. Wait for the game to reload.
CurseForge says its app filters content for the selected profile, but the pack and shader loader still need to support that profile’s Minecraft version and modloader. See CurseForge’s shader installation guide and its Minecraft getting-started information.

Understand the difference between a shader pack and a loader
A shader pack supplies the visual effects. A shader loader is the software that makes shader support and the Shaders menu available in-game. Installing a pack alone may not be enough: add a loader that supports the profile’s Minecraft version and modloader, then launch the profile containing that loader.
CurseForge’s guide describes combinations such as Iris with Sodium and, on a NeoForge path, Oculus with Rubidium or Embeddium. These are examples, not universal compatibility guarantees. Check the loader’s supported versions and the shader project’s requirements before installing. CurseForge’s Iris FAQ also notes that on Fabric versions before 1.21.1, Indium is needed for some mods that rely on APIs Sodium does not provide.

Add a shader pack manually
Use this route if the app installation is unavailable or you already have the pack ZIP. Install and run a compatible shader loader first.
- Launch the profile with the loader and open Minecraft’s Shader Packs menu.
- Click Open Shader Pack Folder.
- Move the shader pack ZIP into the folder that opens. Do not extract it unless the pack’s own instructions specifically require that.
- Return to the menu, select the pack, and apply it.
The Iris FAQ also describes dragging a pack into the game or placing it in the Shaderpacks folder. Pack-specific directions may differ: for example, the BSL Shaders project page instructs users to put the pack in .minecraftshaderpacks and select it from the in-game Shaders screen.

Fix common shader installation problems
The Shaders menu is missing
- Check that a shader loader is installed in the profile you actually launched, rather than in a different CurseForge profile.
- Confirm that the loader supports the profile’s Minecraft version and modloader.
- Check that the loader mod and profile match on both version and loader; CurseForge’s custom profile and modpack support page explains compatibility rules for content added to profiles.
The pack is installed but has no effect
- Open the in-game Shader Packs menu and verify that the pack is selected; installation does not necessarily activate it.
- Apply the selection and allow Minecraft to reload.
- If the pack is unavailable or the game fails to launch, check the pack’s and loader’s version and modloader requirements. Support varies by project.
Check the pack’s terms before sharing it
Installing a pack for your own use is different from redistributing its ZIP. Sildur’s project page permits adding the pack through a platform’s built-in system for hosted modpacks but says not to bundle or re-host the raw ZIP. BSL’s page says redistribution requires permission. Check the terms for the specific pack you use: Sildur’s Vibrant Shaders and BSL Shaders.
