You can add videos to a vMix queue without restarting the YouTube connection by using vMix’s PlayList to sequence separate vMix inputs or List to play multiple files through one input. However, vMix’s cited documentation does not guarantee that editing a queue while it is on air will be interruption-free. Prepare the queue before going live when possible; test any live edit in your exact vMix version and setup before relying on it.
First, distinguish a vMix playlist from a YouTube playlist
The controls for choosing and sequencing videos are inside vMix. Its PlayList sequences vMix inputs, while List plays video and audio files as a single input. YouTube Live setup is a separate part of the workflow: it connects vMix’s output to a live broadcast, rather than inserting individual clips into the broadcast.
So, if by “YouTube playlist” you mean the videos viewers see in your live stream, add or queue them in vMix. You do not need to recreate the YouTube Live connection just to change which vMix video is playing. The available documentation does not, however, establish that changing a running queue cannot affect the output.
Choose the right vMix feature
| Your need | Use | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Sequence separate vMix inputs, with item-specific playback settings | PlayList | Sequences inputs and provides per-item duration, transition, transition time, and starting position settings, along with Next and Previous controls. Manual Mode waits for you to click Next. |
| Play multiple video or audio files as one input | List | Provides Add, Edit, and Remove controls, plus Auto Next and Loop options. vMix documentation says List can avoid loading all videos at once. |
| Connect the vMix production to YouTube Live | YouTube Live destination or stream-key setup | Configures the live connection; it is separate from choosing or sequencing the video input in vMix. |
Add videos using PlayList
- Open PlayList. In vMix, open the PlayList window using the cog beside the PlayList control.
- Add a video input. Choose the video input under Available Inputs, then click the right-arrow button to add it to the PlayList. The PlayList sequences vMix inputs; make sure each video you want to queue is available as an input.
- Set playback behavior. Configure the item’s duration, transition, transition time, and starting position as needed.
- Choose how the queue advances. Use Next or Previous for manual control. If you want to prevent automatic advancement until you choose the next item, enable Manual Mode.
- Test the change before relying on it live. The guide explains playlist controls but does not guarantee that adding or editing an item in a running PlayList leaves the current output untouched. Test the same action off-air with the same vMix version and configuration.
For control during a broadcast, Manual Mode can let you decide when to advance, but it does not itself establish that adding a new item to an already-running playlist is safe for the on-air output.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Queue files as one input with List
- Open the List editing tab for the List input in vMix.
- Add files with Add. Use Edit or Remove to change or delete entries in the list.
- Set playback options. Turn on Auto Next if the list should advance automatically, and Loop if it should repeat.
- Check the live behavior off-air. The user guide documents the List editing and playback options, but does not promise that edits to a List already being used on air are interruption-free.
List is the relevant choice when you want several files handled as a single vMix input. The documentation notes that it can avoid loading all videos at once; it does not specify here a maximum list length or guarantee how edits behave in every version.
Keep the YouTube connection separate from the video queue
vMix’s YouTube guidance describes connecting through YouTube Live or using a stream created in YouTube Studio with a stream key. Those steps establish the live destination; PlayList and List determine which video material vMix plays. Do not treat a YouTube stream key or YouTube’s live setup as the control for inserting clips into the broadcast.

If the YouTube broadcast is already live, the question is whether your vMix queue can be edited safely in your specific production setup—not whether you need to reconnect YouTube for each video. Since the cited guides do not settle the on-air-edit behavior, avoid making a first-time queue change on a production stream.
Before changing a queue on air
- Decide whether your videos are separate vMix inputs (PlayList) or files grouped into one input (List).
- Build and play through the intended queue off-air, including transitions, durations, starting positions, Auto Next, or Loop settings.
- Test the exact live edit you intend to make in the same vMix version and configuration, and verify what viewers receive.
- Have a way to keep the current output playing if the edit behaves differently than expected.
Troubleshooting queue changes
| Symptom | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A video is missing from PlayList | PlayList sequences vMix inputs, not an independent YouTube-side clip queue. | Make the video available as a vMix input, then select it under Available Inputs and use the right arrow to add it. |
| The next item does not start automatically | PlayList may be in Manual Mode, or a List may not have Auto Next enabled. | For PlayList, use Next or disable Manual Mode if automatic advancement is wanted. For List, check Auto Next. |
| The sequence does not repeat | Loop is a documented List option; do not assume a setting in one feature applies to the other. | For a file queue in List, enable Loop. Check the relevant PlayList controls separately for your intended workflow. |
| A live edit disrupts or changes output unexpectedly | The cited documentation does not establish interruption-free editing of a running PlayList or List. | Use your tested recovery approach, then reproduce the edit off-air in the same version and configuration before trying again live. |
| You are trying to add a clip through YouTube Studio | The cited YouTube guides cover live connection setup, while clip sequencing is handled in vMix. | Change the sequence in vMix using PlayList or List, and test the change before using it on air. |
Or let it run in the cloud

It loops uploaded videos without requiring a computer, OBS, or home internet connection to stay on. It sends to YouTube only; it does not stream from a camera.
