Use Razer Synapse or the Razer Audio App to customize the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed’s EQ presets, open the headset’s MIC tab in Synapse for microphone controls, and change sidetone either with the configuration roller under the right ear cup or with Synapse’s MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) control. Advanced EQ tuning and microphone enhancements require Synapse on a Windows PC, while the Razer Audio App provides documented EQ-preset customization on iOS and Android.
What each control changes
EQ, microphone controls, and sidetone affect different parts of the headset. Knowing which one you need prevents you from changing the wrong setting.

The instructions below apply to the standard BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed, product code RZ04-054201. Razer also publishes a separate PlayStation variant, so check the code on your support page before following a button or control layout intended for another model. Razer lists the headset at 270 g; the product page does not state a publication year for that specification, and the page was accessed in 2026.
Before changing anything
- Connect the headset in the mode you intend to use and confirm that the computer or phone detects it.
- Install or open the current Razer application available for your platform. The exact screens can change with an app update.
- Keep the headset’s physical microphone mute control in the unmuted position while testing input.
- For computer calls or games, note which application is selected as the operating system’s input device and output device.
- If you need advanced EQ or microphone enhancement controls, use a Windows PC with Razer Synapse rather than relying only on mobile controls.
Razer’s support page for the exact model documents Synapse 4 support and the device layout. If Synapse does not show the headset, verify that you are working with RZ04-054201 and that the headset is actually connected before troubleshooting individual sliders.

How to customize EQ presets
Use Synapse on a Windows PC
- Connect the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed to the Windows PC.
- Open Razer Synapse and select the headset from the device list.
- Open the headset’s audio controls and locate its EQ presets.
- Choose the preset you want to alter, then customize the available EQ controls and save the result using the options shown in your Synapse version.
- Play a familiar game scene, voice chat, or music track and listen at a safe volume. Switch between the original preset and your adjusted version so you can identify whether the change actually helps.
Razer documents preset customization in Synapse but does not publish one universally correct frequency curve for this headset. A “best” setting depends on the game, your hearing, the mix, and whether you are prioritizing positional effects, dialogue, bass impact, or voice clarity. Treat the built-in presets as starting points instead of assuming one is an official recommendation.
Use the Razer Audio App on iOS or Android
- Install and open the Razer Audio App on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
- Connect the headset using a connection mode supported by the app and select the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed when it appears.
- Open the headset’s EQ presets and customize the preset using the controls the app exposes.
- Apply the change, then test it with the same content you used before editing.
Razer’s Razer Audio App support page lists the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed among supported products. Razer’s SmartSwitch documentation also states that EQ presets can be customized in either Synapse or the Razer Audio App. The mobile app is useful when you want to make a preset change from a phone, but the product FAQ’s advanced-tuning requirement still applies: if a control is absent in the mobile app, use Synapse on Windows.

If EQ controls are missing
- Wrong platform: Advanced EQ tuning is a Windows Synapse function. A phone connection may expose fewer controls.
- Wrong device selected: Open the device list and select the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed itself, not a different Razer audio device.
- Unsupported connection state: Disconnect and reconnect, then check the connection mode documented for your setup. SmartSwitch can change between available headset connection modes, and the active mode can affect what the application can manage.
- Application mismatch: Update or restart Synapse or the Audio App, then reconnect the headset. Labels and panel locations can change between versions, so follow the current device page rather than an old screenshot.
- Preset appears unchanged: Confirm that the edited preset was applied and that the game or media app is outputting to the headset, not another playback device.
Do not infer that a missing control means the headset is defective until you have checked the selected device, platform, connection mode, and app version. Those variables determine which controls the software can expose.

Open the MIC tab in Synapse
- Connect the headset to a Windows PC and open Razer Synapse.
- Select the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed from the device list.
- Open the device page and choose the MIC tab.
- Adjust the microphone controls that your Synapse version presents, then speak while watching the operating system or calling app’s input meter.
- Save or apply the settings using the on-screen control, and make a short recording or test call before joining a live session.
Razer’s product FAQ states that microphone enhancements require Synapse on a Windows PC. Do not assume that every enhancement, switch, or numeric range shown in a guide will appear on another operating system or in every Synapse release. The supported controls are determined by the headset, connection, software version, and platform.

Fix a microphone that produces no input
- Check the headset’s physical mute toggle and move it to the unmuted position.
- In Windows sound settings, select the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed as the input device.
- Open the game or calling application’s audio settings and select the same headset microphone there; many applications can override the operating system default.
- Return to Synapse’s MIC tab and verify that the headset is selected and responding while you speak.
- Reconnect the headset if the input meter remains inactive, then test again before changing additional processing options.
These checks separate a mute or routing problem from a microphone-processing problem. If the operating system and the calling app are listening to another microphone, changing Synapse controls for the BlackShark will not affect the audio they receive.
Check your result without over-processing
Record a short sample at your normal speaking distance and listen back through the headset. Test both quiet speech and the loudest normal words you use in a game. If your voice is clear with the processing disabled, add enhancements one at a time and compare recordings. This gives you a way to identify which control helps and which one introduces an unwanted change, without assuming that a more aggressive setting is automatically better.

How to adjust sidetone
What sidetone means
Sidetone is your own microphone audio played back through the headset. It can make speaking feel more natural and helps you notice how loudly you are talking, but too much monitoring can sound distracting. Sidetone does not change what other people receive from your microphone; it changes the feedback you hear locally.
Use the configuration roller
On the standard BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed, the configuration roller under the right ear cup adjusts sidetone. Razer describes it as allowing you to increase or decrease how much of your own voice you hear through the headset. Turn it while speaking until the monitoring level is comfortable. If you want no self-audio, turn it down fully or use the software method below to disable monitoring.

The roller is the fastest choice when you are already wearing the headset and do not want to open an application. It also gives you a direct control even when you are not using Synapse. Because the roller is a physical control, it changes the sidetone level rather than requiring you to locate a software slider.
Use Synapse’s MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) control
- Open Razer Synapse and select the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed.
- Choose the device’s MIC tab.
- Find MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE).
- Toggle monitoring off or adjust its level, depending on whether you want silence or a smaller amount of self-audio.
- Speak briefly and make a test recording or call to confirm that you changed monitoring rather than the outgoing microphone route.
Razer documents this path in its support article about hearing yourself speak. If you hear your voice unexpectedly, first look for this control and the physical roller before changing the microphone gain or selecting another input device.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing the right adjustment method
| Your goal | Recommended route | Why | Limitation to remember |
|---|---|---|---|
| Change playback tone on a Windows PC | Synapse EQ presets | Provides the advanced EQ-tuning environment Razer associates with Windows | Requires the headset to be detected by Synapse |
| Change a preset from a phone | Razer Audio App on iOS or Android | Razer lists this headset as supported and documents EQ-preset customization | Mobile controls may not include every advanced Synapse function |
| Make your voice audible to others | Synapse device page, MIC tab | Central location for the headset’s microphone controls | The operating system and calling app must also use this microphone |
| Hear less of yourself immediately | Configuration roller | On-headset control that requires no menu navigation | It changes sidetone, not the level other people receive |
| Disable or fine-tune self-monitoring in software | Synapse, MIC tab, MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) | Offers an explicit monitoring toggle or level control | Requires Synapse on a compatible Windows setup |
Connection and application checks
Razer’s SmartSwitch instructions explain that supported headset connection modes can be changed and that EQ presets are customizable in Synapse or the Razer Audio App. For settings work, begin with one active connection and one selected device. Switching modes while a game or call is open can make it appear that a setting disappeared when the software is simply controlling a different audio path.
Recommended Free Tools
- Close the game or call while changing the device, then reopen it after the headset is selected.
- Confirm the same BlackShark device is selected for playback and input where appropriate.
- If you move from mobile to Windows, reconnect and reopen the relevant app rather than assuming the previous session transferred every setting.
- Keep Synapse open when testing advanced EQ or microphone enhancements so you can see whether the device remains available.
The exact-model support page, BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed RZ04-054201 Support & FAQs, was updated 20 August 2026 and is the appropriate reference for this model’s Synapse 4 support. Do not substitute instructions for the separate PlayStation model.
Troubleshooting by symptom
| Symptom | Likely check | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Synapse does not list the headset | Model, connection, or detection | Confirm product code RZ04-054201, reconnect the headset, and reopen Synapse before changing settings. |
| EQ presets are visible but advanced controls are absent | Platform limitation | Use Synapse on a Windows PC; Razer identifies advanced EQ tuning as a Windows Synapse function. |
| Mobile EQ change has no audible effect | Wrong output route or unapplied preset | Apply the preset, verify the headset is the active output, and test with the same audio source again. |
| People cannot hear you | Mute or input selection | Turn off the physical mute toggle and select the BlackShark microphone in both the operating system and the calling app. |
| Your voice sounds processed differently than expected | Platform or Synapse version | Review the controls actually shown in the MIC tab; enhancements and available ranges are not guaranteed across every platform or release. |
| You hear yourself too loudly | Sidetone level | Lower the right-earcup configuration roller or reduce/disable MIC MONITORING (SIDETONE) in Synapse. |
| You still hear yourself after changing microphone gain | Monitoring confused with outgoing level | Adjust sidetone specifically; microphone gain changes what others receive, while sidetone changes your local feedback. |
| Controls vanish after changing connection mode | Different active audio path | Reconnect in the intended mode, select the headset again in the app, and reopen the game or call. |
A reliable test sequence
- Start with the headset unmuted and selected as the operating system input and output.
- Set sidetone low, then speak a sentence so you know what monitoring sounds like before making other changes.
- Choose one EQ preset and listen to a familiar section of game audio or music.
- Make one EQ change, apply it, and compare it with the original before making another change.
- Open the MIC tab, record a short sample, and listen for clarity at normal speaking volume.
- Join a test call or use the application’s input meter to verify that the intended microphone is receiving audio.
- Change only one variable at a time. If a result is worse, undo that change instead of resetting every setting and losing the comparison.
This sequence keeps playback EQ, outgoing microphone processing, and local sidetone separate. It also gives you a known baseline when a game, chat application, or connection-mode change alters the apparent result.
